O primeiro texto define direito como a tentativa de subordinar o poder a razões e prescreve a ciencia juridica, em especial a ciencia juridico-penal, um papel chave nesse sentido. No segundo texto, o conceito de tortura proposto deixa entrever a argumentacao a favor de limites deontologicos, espacos de protecao inacessiveis a atividade do Estado, que não se deixam justificar nem eliminar por considerações de ordem consequencialista. Por fim, os argumentos do último artigo exemplificam a contraface dos limites deontologicos, as consideracoes consequencialistas que fundamentam a ideia de protecão de bens juridicos. O conceito material de delito ou, como Luis Greco prefere denominar, os fins da pena de primeira ordem são trazidos a tona para resolver o problema da cumplicidade por acões neutras.
