Nosso trabalho foi se configurando lentamente numa sucessão de textos, vozes, encontros e acontecimentos, entre a teoria e a prática do ensino da língua portuguesa, a universidade e a escola de lQ grau. Rede de pequenas e anônimas lutas, conquistas e dificuldades, erros e acertos, dentro e fora da sala de aula, neste e naquele lugar. Esforço coletivo e partilhado de mudança nas práticas instituídas e legitimadas para o trabalho nesta disciplina, em nível de 5_ a 8_ série, a partir de um conjunto de idéias formuladas e publicadas no início da década, os Subsídios Metodológicos para o Ensino da Língua Portuguesa - 5_/8Q séries, de João Wanderley Geraldi que se asseminaram entre os professores buscando enraizamento em seu cotidiano de trabalho. O presente estudo é uma tentativa pessoal de resgate e discussão dessa experiência singular, a partir da memória pessoal, de um conjunto de documentos em que foi se fazendo seu registro e de depoimentos orais e escritos de alguns dos que nela se envolveram diretamente. Compreende o tempo e os processos pelos quais tais idéias se materializaram em texto escrito, o modo pelo qual foram divulgadas e discutidas com professores de português e as histórias por eles vividas no esforço de repensar e reorganizar suas práticas de sala de aula, transformando-as em gestos e ações concretas.

To establish his program, Crease draws on three nonpositivist strands of recent philosophy: Husserl's phenomenology to clarify the notion of invariance, Dewey's pragmatism to make needed revisions in our idea of productive inquiry, and Heidegger's hermeneutics to formulate a concept of interpretation appropriate to the cultural and historical "lifeworld" in which members of a scientific community think and act.

In the first part, an overview on complex networks and network-based machine learning is presented, offering necessary background material. In the second part, we describe in details some specific techniques based on complex networks for supervised, non-supervised, and semi-supervised learning. Particularly, a stochastic particle competition technique for both non-supervised and semi-supervised learning using a stochastic nonlinear dynamical system is described in details. Moreover, an analytical analysis is supplied, which enables one to predict the behavior of the proposed technique. In addition, data reliability issues are explored in semi-supervised learning. Such matter has practical importance and is not often found in the literature. With the goal of validating these techniques for solving real problems, simulations on broadly accepted databases are conducted. Still in this book, we present a hybrid supervised classification technique that combines both low and high orders of learning. The low level term can be implemented by any classification technique, while the high level term is realized by the extraction of features of the underlying network constructed from the input data. Thus, the former classifies the test instances by their physical features, while the latter measures the compliance of the test instances with the pattern formation of the data. We show that the high level technique can realize classification according to the semantic meaning of the data. This book intends to combine two widely studied research areas, machine learning and complex networks, which in turn will generate broad interests to scientific community, mainly to computer science and engineering areas.

The Neoliberal City presents an overview of the effect of these changes on today's cities. The term "neoliberalism" was originally used in reference to a set of practices that first-world institutions like the IMF and World Bank impose on third-world countries and cities. The support of unimpeded trade and individual freedoms and the discouragement of state regulation and social spending are the putative centerpieces of this vision. More and more, though, people have come to recognize that first-world cities are undergoing the same processes. In The Neoliberal City, Jason Hackworth argues that neoliberal policies are in fact having a profound effect on the nature and direction of urbanization in the United States and other wealthy countries, and that much can be learned from studying its effect. He explores the impact that neoliberalism has had on three aspects of urbanization in the United States: governance, urban form, and social movements. The American inner city is seen as a crucial battle zone for the wider neoliberal transition primarily because it embodies neoliberalism's antithesis, Keynesian egalitarian liberalism. Focusing on issues such as gentrification in New York City; public-housing policy in New York, Chicago, and Seattle; downtown redevelopment in Phoenix; and urban-landscape change in New Brunswick, N.J., Hackworth shows us how material and symbolic changes to institutions, neighborhoods, and entire urban regions can be traced in part to the rise of neoliberalism.
