Book The Grammar of Body Part Expressions

Download or read book The Grammar of Body Part Expressions written by Roberto Zariquiey and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-21 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the grammatical properties of body-part expressions across a range of languages and language families in the Americas, including Arawakan, Eastern Tukano, Mataguayan, Panoan, and Takanan. Expressions denoting parts of the body often exhibit specific grammatical propertiesthat are intrinsically related to their semantics, and frequently appear in dedicated constructions, many of which are found exclusively in association with these expressions.Following a detailed introduction and discussion of the foundations of body-part grammar, the chapters in the first part of the book investigate categorialization, lexicalization, and the semantic processes associated with body-part expressions. In the second part of the book, contributorsinvestigate specific grammatical properties of body-part expressions, such as inalienability, incorporation, possessive constructions, prefixation, topicality, and word-formation strategies. The volume draws on data from lesser-known languages that are often under-represented in comparative work, and makes a significant contribution not only to the linguistics of the Americas and the typology of body-part expressions, but also to typological studies more broadly, and to historical, comparative, and anthropological linguistics.

Book Managing Information Quality

Download or read book Managing Information Quality written by Martin J. Eppler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes information useful? This seemingly simple and yet intriguing and complicated question is discussed in this book. It examines ways in which the quality of information can be improved in knowledge-intensive processes (such as on-line communication, strategy, product development, or consulting). Based on existing information quality literature, the book proposes a conceptual framework to manage information quality for knowledge-based content. It presents four proven principles to apply the framework to a variety of information products. Five in-depth company case studies show how information quality can be managed systematically. The book uses frequent diagrams and tables, as well as diagnostic questions and summary boxes to make its content actionable.

Book excerpt: Shardza Tashi Gyeltsen (1859-1934) is one of the most important luminaries of the Bon tradition of Tibet and certainly the most striking recent master of the teachings of the Great Perfection. Throughout his life, he applied the principles of the Great Perfection in numerous isolated retreats and perfected both spiritual realization and scholarly erudition. His works have nowadays become immensely important references for the modern Bon tradition, even if, for some lineage holders of this Tibetan school, he is best associated with the movement known as "New Bon". This widely diffused view, however, is wrong as is clearly shown by the analysis of Shardza Rinpoche's Collected Works in the present volume.
