Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is a timely ode to the truth, the truth of the unknown! We, mortals, merely co-star with insecurities to assuage the lusts of the unknown! The life of man is a prayer in motion; time, space determines the faith of its fate! Undated, wisdom, like other unofficial prequels to modern life, is highly underrated. Life is one of the uncomfortable duels of eternity and belief is its crux. The omens of truth are in its ills! Death is merely a testimony to the power of verified inspiration! Rivalling, yet least electrifying, the commitments of redundancy represent a sticky punch to all we deem compelling! Tragically, value is always realised when the best is lost. The Mbaise child has looked at life, and its cousin, death, and deemed each a polluted treason except their reason(s). In this dying life in me, one vigorously explored various intellectual avenues to refine purpose and retain all it supposes, yet the distractions of hubris deny the audacity of its homage! We are endangered species; our leaders are not seeing this! The mind of this age is aesthetically caustic, critically atheistic! Cheaply, man is addicted to insecurity, the cheapest drug whose dealer is unknown!

The author detailed his experiences as he led his men in the battle fields at Aba; Ogidi-Abagana; Afor Ugiri-Umuahia; Ngwa-Ntodino; Umuahia-through Imo River to Umuezealla Owere. The story concluded with the dispersal of worn out Biafran soldiers and the author’s 35-mile trek though highways and bush paths to his home. Book Ten Pounds of Gold 2nd Edition

Download or read book Ten Pounds of Gold 2nd Edition written by Dick Bourne and published by . This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Revised & Expanded Second Edition of the 2009 book contains 70 additional pages of photographs, memorabilia, and historical information, plus a new title history chapter with behind the scenes details, and an expanded chapter on the night the belt was first presented and defended. Plus all the material in the original book including champion profiles, detailed and close-up photos of the belt itself and a detailed history of how it was made. In October of 2008, Dick Bourne and Dave Millican had the rare opportunity to inspect and photograph the genuine NWA world heavyweight championship belt worn and defended in the 1970s and 1980s by Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Harley Race, and others. Not long afterwards, Bourne decided to put together a book about the history and construction of the NWA belt, a chance to share with others the opportunity they had been fortunate enough to have. The result was "Ten Pounds of Gold". Drawing from their interest, experience, and research, Bourne and Millican proudly present the NWA belt as you've never seen it before. A belt enthusiast's dream come true. As one of their customers once wrote, "The only thing that could be better would be to hold the actual belt. This book is that good." This is the COLOR version of the Ten Pounds of Gold (2nd Edition.) An inexpensive Special Black & White Edition is available as well. Visit www.tenpoundsofgold.com for details. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When our love and passion is so intense to grasp a dream and make it reality, we forgo what is rational and take risks that others would not. But with these risks come great possible consequences that ultimately could bring us face to face with death. And during Aaron Madden's pursuit to make it big in the professional wrestling business, he continuously pushed the limits, irrationally increasing the consequences each time, until finally taunting danger one too many times and coming face to face with mortality. Born and raised in Titusville, a small town in northwestern Pennsylvania, Aaron desired and strived to become a professional wrestler. While attending a National Wrestling Alliance show, Aaron's drive and natural athletic ability were instantly noticed by the promoter. Soon, Aaron became known to fans as Luscious Rocky Reynolds and quickly rose through the ranks of the National Wrestling Alliance, becoming one of the fastest rising independent professional wrestlers of his time. As Aaron traveled throughout the NWA territories nationwide, he often found himself in World Title Main Event Matches with legends of the past and stars of tomorrow. And from those World Title Matches, Aaron made his mark in the NWA history books, capturing the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title a prestigious four times. But just as Aaron's success continued to rise, he pushed his limits too far and experienced one of the most traumatic and horrific accidents in the world of professional wrestling. In this book, you will journey through the wrestling career of Aaron Madden. From his first matches in near condemned buildings and circus tents with freezing temperatures to the bright hot lights of the nationally televised professional wrestling organization Total Nonstop Action. From the times he was hoisted onto the shoulders of his fans to the times he was strapped to stretchers and wheeled out of buildings. And from all the times he stood in the ring proudly holding the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title to that near fatal night that he lay almost lifeless on the cold tiled floor next to the ring with blood pouring from his head. When we risk it all to pursue our passions, we are willing to take risks and pay any price. As you read this book, you will discover that Aaron's passion to make it big in the professional wrestling business was so intense, he was willing to pay that price with his life.

Book Parental Discretion Is Advised

Download or read book Parental Discretion Is Advised written by Gerrick D. Kennedy and published by Atria Books. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience the stunning rise, fall, and legacy of N.W.A. and how they put their stamp on pop culture, black culture, and hip-hop music forever in this “incredibly vivid look at one of music’s most iconic groups” (Associated Press). In 1986, a group was formed that would establish the foundation of gangsta rap and push the genre forward, electrifying fans with their visceral and profane lyrics that glorified the dark ways of street life and brazenly challenged the police system. Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella caused a seismic shift in hip-hop when they decided to form N.W.A in 1986. With their hard-core image, bombastic sound, and lyrics that were equal parts poetic, lascivious, conscious, and downright in-your-face, N.W.A spoke the truth about life on the streets of Compton, California—then a hotbed of poverty, drugs, gangs, and unemployment. Going beyond the story portrayed in the 2015 blockbuster movie Straight Outta Compton, through firsthand interviews, extensive research, and top-notch storytelling, Los Angeles Times music reporter Gerrick Kennedy transports you back in time and offers a front-row seat to N.W.A’s early days and the drama and controversy that followed the incendiary group as they rose to become multiplatinum artists. Kennedy leaves nothing off the table in his pursuit of the full story behind the group’s most pivotal moments, such as Ice Cube’s decision to go solo after their debut studio album became a smash hit; their battle with the FBI over inflammatory lyrics; incidents of physical assault; Dr. Dre’s departure from the group to form Death Row Records with Suge Knight; their impact on the 1992 L.A. riots; Eazy-E’s battle with AIDS; and much more. A bold, riveting, “non-stop, can’t-put-it-down ride” (Library Journal), Parental Discretion Is Advised unveils the true and astonishing history of one of the most transcendent and controversial musical groups of the 1980s and 1990s.

Book excerpt: In 1957, the National Wrestling Alliance found itself in an unusual situation. Dick Hutton, the man who had just beat Lou Thesz for the World Heavyweight Championship, was suddenly a champion without a belt. It took the NWA two years to have a new belt made, but in late 1959, Sam Muchnick finally presented a beautiful new title belt -- the crown belt - - to then champion Pat O'Connor. This is the story of the events that led up to that long period without a championship trophy, and the developments during that time that resulted in a new NWA belt. For the first time ever, the belt itself gets a close look, including its origins, its construction, as well as the story of the promoter and the craftsman that put it all together. And of course the main event is the detailed title history of the championship during the golden era of the crown belt, and a look at the six champions who wore and defended it. Featuring dozens of photographs, some never published before, as well as over fifty pages of exhibits and memorabilia including program covers, newspaper accounts, and rare documents from the NWA archives. It's the crown jewel of the wrestling world as you've never seen it before.

Book excerpt: In the 1950s in Las Vegas, a businessman's conglomerate dominating a 25 million a year sports industry hid their practices from the US Dept of Justice. The sport that placed cold hard cash over honest competition? Pro wrestling. The conspirators? The National Wrestling Alliance. Hornbaker examines the NWA's huge success - and their relationships to influential politicians and writers, who protected their financial interests for over 50 years. Breaking the facade of sports production, he also shows how promoters actually resorted to violence to edge out competition.

Book BEYOND OUR IMAGINATIONS

Download or read book BEYOND OUR IMAGINATIONS written by Simi Afonja and published by ChudacePublishing. This book was released on 2022-06-17 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond our Imaginations: African Women’s Realities is the product of dialogues on Gender and Feminism in the region of Africa. It is the first in the series “Feminism Visions of Society.” The book provides a balanced review of Western and West African theories and of participatory methodologies paying particular attention to the exclusion of grassroots feminism from the growing body of knowledge and action. It builds on existing essentialist theorizing without disregarding the overlaps with feminism in other cultures. Cultural knowledge is extended in discussions of grassroots women’s loss of power and voice through changing gender images; the declining culture of the Deitification of Motherhood; Women’s Leadership in Modern Markets; Female Traditional Rulership; and Women’s Influence in Community Development and Peace Building. This book helps to understand why too often there are gaps between theory and the policies designed to improve African Women’s lives. There is also a repertoire of qualitative data about feminist practices and strategies at the household level, in the workplace, and the political domains as part of the patriarchal bargain in African cultures. While the collection celebrates the importance of the imagination in building feminist knowledge, it takes a more cautionary stand, calls for methodological flexibility and sophistication as African scholars expand feminist knowledge.

Book Readings on Religion and Culture in Africa

Download or read book Readings on Religion and Culture in Africa written by Ejizu, Chris I. and published by M & J Grand Orbit Communications. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book of reading on religion and culture in Africa comprising ten papers by experts in religion and cultural matters and an introductory note by the editor himself. Covered in the volume are papers covering: the impact of secularisation and urbanisation on a most cherished socio-cultural practice of the extended family system of the Isoko people in Nigeria; the traditional medical practices in Urhobo with particular focus on the use of local herbs to treat ailments; the socioreligious as well as the political significance of Obiri (family hall) in Ikwerreland; the rationale behind the use of the concept ‘Dunamis’ in the Gospel According to Staint Mark. Although his paper does not focus on African (traditional) religion, its inclusion here is based purely on the theological significance of the concept of ‘Dunamis’; the extent to which evil spirits and mysterious forces have influenced the religion and culture of the Urhobo people of Nigeria; the significance of festivals in the traditional African society; John Wesley’s innovations in Christendom and their implications for Africa; the recent unprecedented upsurge in the assumed use of religious powers to cast out evil spirits as well as for prayer healing among Muslims in Nigeria; the culture of alienation, anxiety and violence, drawing inspiration from the Fall Story of Genesis 3; and the widowhood practices of some areas in Nigeria.
