Book Validation of human immunodeficiency virus HIV and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS nursing care competencies

Download or read book Validation of human immunodeficiency virus HIV and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS nursing care competencies written by Joanne Jelica F. Manarang and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The adoption of the HIV and AIDS nursing care competencies was underpinned by the significant challenge that arose from the increasing number of new cases in the Philippines year after year. The purpose of this study was to validate a list of nursing competency statements in HIV and AIDS care, based upon the perception of the nurse experts and the staff nurses in duly recognized treatment hubs. The study utilized a quantitative descriptive comparative research design. Data was collected using an adopted survey tool from the study of Professor Relf and co-authors. Numerical data was analyzed with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science 21.0 and MeCalc 12.0. Based on the perspectives of the six nurse experts and twenty four staff nurses, the competency statements ranged from "important" to "very important" in HIV and AIDS care. The competency statements also ranged from "frequently used" to "always used" in their everyday practice in the hubs. Responses between the nurse experts and staff nurses also resulted in "poor" to "very good" agreement. Hence, these competencies were comprehensive and valid for use in the Philippines.
