Book Numerical Study of the Navier Stokes Equations Using the Fractional Step Method Application to the Laminar Flow Around a Square Cylinder

Download or read book Numerical Study of the Navier Stokes Equations Using the Fractional Step Method Application to the Laminar Flow Around a Square Cylinder written by Jordi Luque Barcons and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The numerical resolution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with the Fractional Step Method, based on the Helmholtz-Hodge theorem, is studied. Basic benchmark problems are solved previously, such as a generic transient 2D heat conduction problem, potential flow around a rotating and non-rotating cylinder and a generic convection-diffusion equation; with excellent agreement with the results obtained and the ones on the literature. The code for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is verified using the benchmark results of the Lid-driven cavity problem with really good agreement as well. Finally, laminar flow around a confined square cylinder is studied and compared with the results from Breuer et. al. The drag coefficient and Strouhal number are computed finding good agreement for Reynolds numbers lower than 100 but important discrepancies for higher Reynolds.

Book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 4

Download or read book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 4 written by D. Laurence and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-04-14 with total page 975 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the papers presented at the 4th International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements held at Ajaccio, Corsica, France from 24-26 May 1999. It follows three previous conferences on the topic of engineering turbulence modelling and measurements. The purpose of this series of symposia is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing new developments in the area of turbulence modelling and measurements, with particular emphasis on engineering-related problems. Turbulence is still one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. As powerful computers and accurate numerical methods are now available for solving the flow equations, and since engineering applications nearly always involve turbulence effects, the reliability of CFD analysis depends more and more on the performance of the turbulence models. Successful simulation of turbulence requires the understanding of the complex physical phenomena involved and suitable models for describing the turbulent momentum, heat and mass transfer. For the understanding of turbulence phenomena, experiments are indispensable, but they are equally important for providing data for the development and testing of turbulence models and hence for CFD software validation.

Book Study for the Computational Resolution of Conservation Equations of Mass Momentum and Energy and Analysis of the Laminar Flow Over a Square Cylinder

Download or read book Study for the Computational Resolution of Conservation Equations of Mass Momentum and Energy and Analysis of the Laminar Flow Over a Square Cylinder written by Jaume Carreras Maide and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gorgeous behaviour of fluids throughout the nature has fascinated the human being over the time, and its major endeavour to comprehend it has brought to the world the Computational Fluid Dynamics, which has allowed incommensurable amount of applications in the aerospace and other engineering branches. This document pretends to deepen the numerical resolution of the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics in two steps. Firstly, a code-verification phase is elaborated with benchmark cases such as a transient conduction problem, the Smith-Hutton case, the equation of Burgers, the driven-cavity problem and a differentially heated cavity case. Secondly, a brief analysis of laminar flows over a square cylinder is treated and an examination of the recirculation length concept is carried out. All the performed computational simulations revolve around two main axis: the Finite Volume Method to discretise the domain and the Fractional Step Method to solve the Navier-Stokes equations.

Book Navier Stokes Equations

Download or read book Navier Stokes Equations written by Roger Temam and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navier-Stokes Equations: Theory and Numerical Analysis focuses on the processes, methodologies, principles, and approaches involved in Navier-Stokes equations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and mathematical analysis to which CFD is grounded. The publication first takes a look at steady-state Stokes equations and steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. Topics include bifurcation theory and non-uniqueness results, discrete inequalities and compactness theorems, existence and uniqueness theorems, discretization of Stokes equations, existence and uniqueness for the Stokes equations, and function spaces. The text then examines the evolution of Navier-Stokes equations, including linear case, compactness theorems, alternate proof of existence by semi-discretization, and discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations. The book ponders on the approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations by the projection and compressibility methods; properties of the curl operator and application to the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations; and implementation of non-conforming linear finite elements. The publication is a valuable reference for researchers interested in the theory and numerical analysis of Navier-Stokes equations.

Book Numerical Solutions of the Incompressible Navier Stokes Equations in Two and Three Dimensional Coordinates

Download or read book Numerical Solutions of the Incompressible Navier Stokes Equations in Two and Three Dimensional Coordinates written by Alexander Victor and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important applications of finite difference lies in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In particular, the solution to the Navier-Stokes equation grants us insight into the behavior of many physical systems. The 2-D and 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equation has been studied extensively due to its analogous nature to many practical applications, and several numerical schemes have been developed to provide solutions dedicated to different environmental conditions (such as different Reynolds numbers). This research also covers the assignment of boundary conditions, starting with the simple case of driven cavity flow problem. In addition, several parts of the equations are given implicitly, which requires efficient ways of solving large systems of equations. We also considered numerical solution methods for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations discretized on staggered grids in general coordinates. Numerical experiments are carried out on a vector computer. Robustness and efficiency of these methods are studied. It appears that good methods result from suitable combinations of multigrid methods.Numerically solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is known to be time-consuming and expensive; hence this research presents some MATLAB codes for obtaining numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flow through flow cavities, using method of lines, in three-dimensional space (3-D). The code treats the laminar flow over a two-dimensional backward-facing step, and the results of the computations over the backward-facing step are in excellent agreement with experimental results.

Book Computation of Viscous Incompressible Flows

Download or read book Computation of Viscous Incompressible Flows written by Dochan Kwak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-14 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is intended as a concise and self-contained guide to practitioners and graduate students for applying approaches in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to real-world problems that require a quantification of viscous incompressible flows. In various projects related to NASA missions, the authors have gained CFD expertise over many years by developing and utilizing tools especially related to viscous incompressible flows. They are looking at CFD from an engineering perspective, which is especially useful when working on real-world applications. From that point of view, CFD requires two major elements, namely methods/algorithm and engineering/physical modeling. As for the methods, CFD research has been performed with great successes. In terms of modeling/simulation, mission applications require a deeper understanding of CFD and flow physics, which has only been debated in technical conferences and to a limited scope. This monograph fills the gap by offering in-depth examples for students and engineers to get useful information on CFD for their activities. The procedural details are given with respect to particular tasks from the authors’ field of research, for example simulations of liquid propellant rocket engine subsystems, turbo-pumps and the blood circulations in the human brain as well as the design of artificial heart devices. However, those examples serve as illustrations of computational and physical challenges relevant to many other fields. Unlike other books on incompressible flow simulations, no abstract mathematics are used in this book. Assuming some basic CFD knowledge, readers can easily transfer the insights gained from specific CFD applications in engineering to their area of interest.
