Book Numerical Simulation of Two Dimensional Incompressible Laminar Flow Over Square Cylinder

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Two Dimensional Incompressible Laminar Flow Over Square Cylinder written by Khalid Mohamed Mohamed Bahgat Elserfy and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the current work is to simulate the laminar flow over square cylinder by developing numerical code using C++ programing language. The findings of this simulation are streamlines and isotherm pattern and global quantities like; lift force coefficient, Drag force coefficient, recirculation length, and Nusselt number. Flow over square cylinder is an important research topic in many engineering fields due to its numerous applications such as building aerodynamics, cooling of electronic component and compact heat exchangers. The thesis is divided into 6 chapters. The objectives and scope of the work is explained in chapter1. In chapter 2, the governing equation and the assumption used to simplify these equations are discussed. Discretization of the domain and the governing equation will be carried out in chapter 3. In chapter 4, the algorithm for pressure velocity coupling (fractional step Method), linear solver used for solving system of linear equations and different boundary conditions are discussed. The developed numerical code is verified in chapter 5 using Method of Manufactured Solution (MMS) and comparing code solution to high accurate Benchmark solution of the Driven cavity and differential heated square cavity. Finally in chapter 6, the simulation of laminar flow over square cylinder is explained, in which the effect of Reynolds number and effect of blockage ratio are investigated. Also tandem arrangement for two square cylinder and effect of adding gravity term using Boussinesq approximation for this arrangement are studied. It is concluded that, flow patterns, drag, lift coefficient, and strouhal number are affected by changing Reynolds number and blockage number. In case of tandem arrangement, downstream cylinder has different drag, lift, and Nusselt number from upstream cylinder. Moreover adding buoyancy affect different calculated parameter especially lift coefficient.

Book Numerical Simulation of Unsteady Incompressible Flow Past Two dimensional Elliptic Cylinders

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Unsteady Incompressible Flow Past Two dimensional Elliptic Cylinders written by Ayan Sengupta and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unsteady algorithms Fully Implicit and Crank Nicholson were developed for body fitted curvilinear coordinate system to study the incompressible flow over two-dimensional ellipses. In addition, explicit cyclic boundary condition was implemented to facilitate analysis of vortex shedding. Unsteady flow over circular cylinders was simulated for different Reynolds numbers and compared with experimental data. Flow over ellipses was simulated to study the effect of aspect ratio on drag coefficient. It was observed that the drag coefficient increased as the aspect ratio increased reaching an asymptotic value as the ellipse approached a flat plate.

Book Bluff Body Wakes Dynamics and Instabilities

Download or read book Bluff Body Wakes Dynamics and Instabilities written by Helmut Eckelmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-05 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bluff-body wakes play an important role in many fluid dynamics problems and engineering applications. This book gives and up-to-date account of recent results obtained in the study of bluff-body wakes. Experimental, theoretical and numerical approaches are all comprehensively covered and compared. Topics of particular interest include hydrodynamic instability analyses, three-dimensional pattern formation problems, flow control methods, bifurcation analyses, numerical simulations and turbulence modelling. The main originality of thisvolume is that recent conceptual advances made to describe nonlinear phenomena in general are put to the test on a classical problem in fundamental fluid mechanics, namely the wake structure generated behind a bluff object.

Book Hydrodynamics Around Cylindrical Structures

Download or read book Hydrodynamics Around Cylindrical Structures written by Jorgen Fredsoe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-03-17 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the subject of wave/current flow around a cylinder, the forces induced on the cylinder by the flow, and the vibration pattern of slender structures in a marine environment. The primary aim of the book is to describe the flow pattern and the resulting load which develops when waves or current meet a cylinder. Attention is paid to the special case of a circular cylinder. The development in the forces is related to the various flow patterns and is discussed in detail. Regular as well as irregular waves are considered, and special cases like wall proximities (pipelines) are also investigated. The book is intended for MSc students with some experience in basic fluid mechanics and for PhD students.

Book The Hopf Bifurcation and Its Applications

Download or read book The Hopf Bifurcation and Its Applications written by J. E. Marsden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of these notes is to give a reasonahly com plete, although not exhaustive, discussion of what is commonly referred to as the Hopf bifurcation with applications to spe cific problems, including stability calculations. Historical ly, the subject had its origins in the works of Poincare [1] around 1892 and was extensively discussed by Andronov and Witt [1] and their co-workers starting around 1930. Hopf's basic paper [1] appeared in 1942. Although the term "Poincare Andronov-Hopf bifurcation" is more accurate (sometimes Friedrichs is also included), the name "Hopf Bifurcation" seems more common, so we have used it. Hopf's crucial contribution was the extension from two dimensions to higher dimensions. The principal technique employed in the body of the text is that of invariant manifolds. The method of Ruelle Takens [1] is followed, with details, examples and proofs added. Several parts of the exposition in the main text come from papers of P. Chernoff, J. Dorroh, O. Lanford and F. Weissler to whom we are grateful. The general method of invariant manifolds is common in dynamical systems and in ordinary differential equations: see for example, Hale [1,2] and Hartman [1]. Of course, other methods are also available. In an attempt to keep the picture balanced, we have included samples of alternative approaches. Specifically, we have included a translation (by L. Howard and N. Kopell) of Hopf's original (and generally unavailable) paper.

Book Analysis of Laminar Flow over a Backward Facing Step

Download or read book Analysis of Laminar Flow over a Backward Facing Step written by Jacques Periaux and published by Vieweg+teubner Verlag. This book was released on 1984 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ~~~~ INTRODUCTION 1. - The problem for analysis and requirements 2. - Results 3. - Comparison of computer times 4. - Conclusion. INTRODUCTION In 1981 it appeared to the organizers that a workshop to compare codes to solve the Navier -Stokes equations would be of great interest to the community of numerical analysts and users working on CFD (Computer fluid Dynamics}. A test problem would have to be selected with the following features : 1. it should be suited for all known methods (finite differences, finite elements, spectral ... ) thus the geometry should be simple. 2. it should be simple so that scientists with small computer facilities can test it and the gradients in the flow should be reasonable in size so that algo rithms don't blow up with a limited number of points and iterations. In practice one would have to select a stationary flow at moderate Reynolds number. 3. it should be a real flow to allow experimental ~asurements. The simplest problem used previously was the cavity flow problem ; however the singularity of the data at the boundary (point A and B on figure 1} makes it difficult for the Finite Element and Spectral methods ; furthermore it is not such an easy experiment to set up. A B .... u = 2 Flow around a cylinder, although most interesting of all, is too difficult because it is unbounded (many grid points) and very quickly unsteady {Re ~30).
