Book Heat transfer Processes in Liquid cooled Engine Cylinders

Download or read book Heat transfer Processes in Liquid cooled Engine Cylinders written by Benjamin Pinkel and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis based on forced-convection heat-transfer theory, similar to the analysis presented for air-cooled engines in NACA Report No. 612, is made of the cooling processes in liquid-cooled engine cylinders. Semi-empirical equations that relate the average head and barrel temperatures with the primary engine and coolant parameters are derived.

Book Numerical Investigation of the Scavenging Flow in a Two stroke Engine with Passive Intake Valves

Download or read book Numerical Investigation of the Scavenging Flow in a Two stroke Engine with Passive Intake Valves written by Philip Jozef Oliver and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a numerical model of a two-stroke engine is undertaken to study the scavenging characteristics of the engine. The engine design is unique in its use of 16 passive intake valves in the cylinder head which, along with the exhaust ports located at bottom centre (BC), give the engine a top-down uniflow-scavenged configuration. Each valve constitutes a small stainless steel platelet within a cavity in the cylinder head which reacts to the pressure difference across the cylinder head. The principle focus of this study is the transient simulation of the scavenging flow using dynamic meshing to model the piston motion and the response of the passive intake valves to the scavenging flow for varied engine speed and peak pressure. A flowbench study of the steady flow through the cylinder head into a duct is incorporated as a step in the development of the transient numerical model. Validation of the numerical predictions is undertaken by comparing results from an experimental flowbench for the steady case and using a cold-flow scavenging rig for the transient simulations. Both the steady flow through the cylinder head and the unsteady flow within the cylinder indicate the presence of a recirculation region on the cylinder axis. As a result, short-circuiting of scavenging gas becomes considerable and leads to scavenging characteristics comparable to Hopkinson's perfect mixing one-dimensional scavenging model.

Book Heat and Mass Transfer in Gasoline and Diesel Engines

Download or read book Heat and Mass Transfer in Gasoline and Diesel Engines written by Dudley Brian Spalding and published by Core/Mechanical. This book was released on 1989 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The editors explain that the classical formulae and techniques for predicting heat flow do not apply to the unique conditions found in reciprocating engines. They warn the reader--presumed to be aspiring designers of more efficient and less polluting engines--that although these papers, from every country where engineering is practiced, contain nearly all the available knowledge on the subject, no definitive answers emerge, no breakthroughs loom around the next equation. The topics include the transfer of engine heat and of external heat, numerical flow simulation, applications and devices, ignition and quenching, and measurement techniques. Book Engineering Fluid Flows and Heat Transfer Analysis

Download or read book Engineering Fluid Flows and Heat Transfer Analysis written by Houssem Laidoudi and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2020-03-02 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering systems and materials do experience heating or cooling of some kind during operation. Modelling and theoretical analysis of heat transfer problems will enhance the functional success of the materials and enable new product development in engineering. The special issue on “Engineering Fluid Flows and Heat Transfer Analysis” of the journal “Diffusion Foundations” presents some novel theoretical analysis of various engineering heat transfer problems. Topics covered in this special issue include reactive fluid flow, magnetohydrodynamics, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid flow, natural convection, forced convection, mixed convection, porous media flow, and thermal radiation absorption effects.
