Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Shock Induced Combustion Past Blunt Bodies Using Shock Fitting Technique written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-09 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-dimensional axisymmetric, reacting viscous flow over blunt projectiles is computed to study shock-induced combustion at Mach 5.11 and Mach 6.46 in hydrogen-air mixture. A finite-difference, shock-fitting method is used to solve the complete set of Navier-Stokes and species conservation equations. In this approach, the bow shock represents a boundary of the computational domain and is treated as a discontinuity across which Rankine-Hugoniot conditions are applied. All interior details of the flow such as compression waves, reaction front, and the wall boundary layer are captured automatically in the solution. Since shock-fitting approach reduces the amount of artificial dissipation, all the intricate details of the flow are captured much more clearly than has been possible with the shock-capturing approach. This has allowed an improved understanding of the physics of shock-induced combustion over blunt projectiles and the numerical results can now be explained more readily with one-dimensional wave-interaction model than before. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ram accelerators are among the most advanced tools for generating fluid dynamcis data in supersonic reacting systems. They require the combined action of combustion, wave systems and turbulence and are still a serious challenge for physicists and engineers. This book will serve as an introductionary textbook on ram accelerators and gives a thorough overview on research activities, performance modeling and high-pressure detonation dynamics.

Download or read book Transition Turbulence and Combustion written by M.Y. Hussaini and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes are concerned with current technologically important issues of transition, turbulence and combustion. Topics covered in transition include linear and nonlinear stability, direct and large-eddy simulation and phenomenological modelling of the transition zone. In turbulence, interest was focused on second-order closures and the formulation of near-wall corrections to existing high Reynolds number models, and closure model development based on turbulent flow structures and RNG theory. Topics covered in combustion include counterflow diffusion flames, development of novel mixing enhancement techniques for non-premixed combustion, and methods of modelling the interaction between turbulence and chemical kinetics. This collection of papers from leading researchers represents as yet unpublished state-of-the-art research, resulting in a very valuable tool for scientists and students working in areas of turbulence, transition and combustion.

This book was released on 1997-01-22 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposia take place every two years. They are the forum at which scientists concerned with shock waves present their research. They USE shock waves for chemical kinetics studies, for materials studies, and smashing kidney stones; they STUDY the phenomena associated with flows involving shock waves, such as supersonic flow, explosions, detonations, volcanic eruptions, and, in this symposium, even such with-it topics as impact of Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter and blast waves in the World Trade Center. They also discover new, bigger and better ways of generating flows at hypervelocity speeds and develop their technological tools further. The international exchange of information is documented in the proceedings volumes, which have become a storehouse of information on the subject, documenting the history of this peculiar branch of science that involves chemists, physicists, engineers, geophysicists, material scientists and biologists.
