Book Number Theory in Function Fields

Download or read book Number Theory in Function Fields written by Michael Rosen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early in the development of number theory, it was noticed that the ring of integers has many properties in common with the ring of polynomials over a finite field. The first part of this book illustrates this relationship by presenting analogues of various theorems. The later chapters probe the analogy between global function fields and algebraic number fields. Topics include the ABC-conjecture, Brumer-Stark conjecture, and Drinfeld modules.

Book excerpt: Requiring no more than a basic knowledge of abstract algebra, this text presents the mathematics of number fields in a straightforward, pedestrian manner. It therefore avoids local methods and presents proofs in a way that highlights the important parts of the arguments. Readers are assumed to be able to fill in the details, which in many places are left as exercises.

Book excerpt: This book is written for the student in mathematics. Its goal is to give a view of the theory of numbers, of the problems with which this theory deals, and of the methods that are used. We have avoided that style which gives a systematic development of the apparatus and have used instead a freer style, in which the problems and the methods of solution are closely interwoven. We start from concrete problems in number theory. General theories arise as tools for solving these problems. As a rule, these theories are developed sufficiently far so that the reader can see for himself their strength and beauty, and so that he learns to apply them. Most of the questions that are examined in this book are connected with the theory of diophantine equations - that is, with the theory of the solutions in integers of equations in several variables. However, we also consider questions of other types; for example, we derive the theorem of Dirichlet on prime numbers in arithmetic progressions and investigate the growth of the number of solutions of congruences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Itpzf}JlOV, li~oxov uoq>ZUJlCJ. 7:WV Al(JX., llpoj1. AE(Jj1. The first part of this volume is based on a course taught at Princeton University in 1961-62; at that time, an excellent set ofnotes was prepared by David Cantor, and it was originally my intention to make these notes available to the mathematical public with only quite minor changes. Then, among some old papers of mine, I accidentally came across a long-forgotten manuscript by ChevaIley, of pre-war vintage (forgotten, that is to say, both by me and by its author) which, to my taste at least, seemed to have aged very welt It contained abrief but essentially com plete account of the main features of c1assfield theory, both local and global; and it soon became obvious that the usefulness of the intended volume would be greatly enhanced if I inc1uded such a treatment of this topic. It had to be expanded, in accordance with my own plans, but its outline could be preserved without much change. In fact, I have adhered to it rather c10sely at some critical points.

Book Algebra and Number Theory

Download or read book Algebra and Number Theory written by Martyn R. Dixon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explore the main algebraic structures and number systems that play a central role across the field of mathematics Algebra and number theory are two powerful branches of modern mathematics at the forefront of current mathematical research, and each plays an increasingly significant role in different branches of mathematics, from geometry and topology to computing and communications. Based on the authors' extensive experience within the field, Algebra and Number Theory has an innovative approach that integrates three disciplines—linear algebra, abstract algebra, and number theory—into one comprehensive and fluid presentation, facilitating a deeper understanding of the topic and improving readers' retention of the main concepts. The book begins with an introduction to the elements of set theory. Next, the authors discuss matrices, determinants, and elements of field theory, including preliminary information related to integers and complex numbers. Subsequent chapters explore key ideas relating to linear algebra such as vector spaces, linear mapping, and bilinear forms. The book explores the development of the main ideas of algebraic structures and concludes with applications of algebraic ideas to number theory. Interesting applications are provided throughout to demonstrate the relevance of the discussed concepts. In addition, chapter exercises allow readers to test their comprehension of the presented material. Algebra and Number Theory is an excellent book for courses on linear algebra, abstract algebra, and number theory at the upper-undergraduate level. It is also a valuable reference for researchers working in different fields of mathematics, computer science, and engineering as well as for individuals preparing for a career in mathematics education.

Book The Theory of Algebraic Number Fields

Download or read book The Theory of Algebraic Number Fields written by David Hilbert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A translation of Hilberts "Theorie der algebraischen Zahlkörper" best known as the "Zahlbericht", first published in 1897, in which he provides an elegantly integrated overview of the development of algebraic number theory up to the end of the nineteenth century. The Zahlbericht also provided a firm foundation for further research in the theory, and can be seen as the starting point for all twentieth century investigations into the subject, as well as reciprocity laws and class field theory. This English edition further contains an introduction by F. Lemmermeyer and N. Schappacher.

Book Algebraic Number Fields

Download or read book Algebraic Number Fields written by Gerald J. Janusz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents the basic information about finite dimensional extension fields of the rational numbers, algebraic number fields, and the rings of algebraic integers in them. The important theorems regarding the units of the ring of integers and the class group are proved and illustrated with many examples given in detail. The completion of an algebraic number field at a valuation is discussed in detail and then used to provide economical proofs of global results. The book contains many concrete examples illustrating the computation of class groups, class numbers, and Hilbert class fields. Exercises are provided to indicate applications of the general theory.

Book Cohomology of Number Fields

This book was released on 1975-12-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph makes available, in English, the elementary parts of classical algebraic number theory. This second edition follows closely the plan and style of the first edition. The principal changes are the correction of misprints, the expansion or simplification of some arguments, and the omission of the final chapter on units in order to make way for the introduction of some two hundred problems.
