Book excerpt: It is difficult for me to dissect with complete accuracy when exactly this passion for pen and paper really began. Maybe it was during my conception or maybe it was right at birth. But, what I do know with certainty is that I love writing. I indulge into the possible possibilities of bringing someones forgotten story or experience into a small memoir of lines that I can probably take to a path where one can relate or identify with.

Book The ethics of researching the far right

Download or read book The ethics of researching the far right written by Antonia Vaughan and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-07 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when far, radical, and extreme-right politics are becoming increasingly mainstream globally – sometimes with deadly consequences – research in these fields is essential to understand the most effective ways to combat these dangerous ideologies. Yet engaging with texts and movements that do physical and verbal violence raises a number of urgent ethical issues. Until recently, this has remained understudied, as scholarship on the far right rarely delves explicitly and critically into the ethics of research. This book seeks to remedy this significant gap in an otherwise extensive and growing literature. Originating from a workshop series in 2020, in which an international group of academics at various career stages shared the ethical challenges and best practices they had developed in their research, this edited collection draws together insights from these ongoing conversations, offering urgent critical reflections on key ethical issues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the lived experiences of higher education professionals working in the face of stress, pressure and the threat of burnout and how acts of self-care and wellbeing can support, develop and maintain a sense of self. In considering the place of self-care in higher education, we are challenged with the tension that exists when it comes to the valuing of self-care and our individual and collective wellbeing. In Reflections on Valuing Wellbeing in Higher Education, authors present and explore the ways in which they manage and reframe their wellbeing and self-care, through mindfulness, compassion, connection to breath, ref lection, demonstrating individual and collective embodiment and resistance to neoliberalism and environmental destruction. Covering various contexts of higher education, such as learning and teaching, research, leadership and engagement, this book offers practical strategies grounded in literature and evidence-based research. The self in self-care is relational. It is not just about self. We need others for inspiration, motivation and, indeed, the act. This book will be of great interest to professionals and researchers specifically interested in studies in higher education, wellbeing and/or identity as well as those navigating a career in higher education.

Download or read book The Encyclopedia of Ailments and Diseases written by Jacques Martel and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive reference and healing tool to address the emotional and psychological causes of illness • Uncovers the conflicted conscious or unconscious feelings, thoughts, and emotions at the root of nearly 900 ailments and diseases • Details a unique Integration and Acceptance Technique for accessing information through the heart and thereby starting the healing process for emotions and feelings • Provides positive affirmations to effect change for each ailment and disease What if your body used a secret language to talk to you? What if an ailment or illness was your body’s way to shout for help, to make you understand that you need to change your thoughts, emotions, feelings, and behaviors? Your body wants you to become aware of the stress that you carry, conscious or not, so you can release unmanaged past and present emotions and the physical complaints that accompany them. Compiling years of research and the results of thousands of cases he encountered in his private practice and during workshops over the past 30 years, Jacques Martel explains how to read and understand the body’s language of disease and imbalance. In this encyclopedia, he shows how body language reveals specific thoughts, feelings, and emotions that are at the source of nearly 900 different ailments and diseases. The author also details his Integration and Acceptance Technique, which enables healing information to bypass the brain and connect directly with the heart. This technique disables the source of the conflict, conscious or not, that could be at the root of an illness, behavior, or condition and improves the chances of true healing. This comprehensive manual offers a tool to help each of us become, to some extent, our own doctor or therapist, get to know ourselves better, and recover health and well-being physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. For practitioners and therapists, this remarkable reference tool provides invaluable insights and prompts for healing.

Book Out of Numbness

Download or read book Out of Numbness written by C. A. Wyatt and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-05 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author C. A. Wyatt was introduced to drugs and alcohol in his youth, seeking the acceptance of others while growing up in the predominant culture of sex, drugs, and rock and roll in the seventies. In Out of Numbness, Wyatt shares his life history and experiences from his days of active addiction through his search for a spiritual solution in recovery. As a young man, he began a promising career as an aerospace engineer in 1976, but his self-destructive addiction prompted endless nights of clubbing and drug use. When his father passed away in the early eighties, Wyatt was haunted by the death; when his mentally ill mother moved in with him, he was unable to cope. He found himself constantly brokenhearted by unstable romantic relationships begun with women he met in bars. Disillusioned with nightlife, Wyatt finally set out on the road to rehabilitation in 1985, when he was introduced to a new way of life. Although he experienced drama and setbacks in the chaos of life, the spiritual enlightenment of recovery has served as his guiding force ever since. This memoir, seeking to offer understanding and hope for those struggling with addiction, shares one man’s lifelong experiences on the path to recovery.

Book Of reflections and Society

Download or read book Of reflections and Society written by Nimisha and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-12-27 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapes are a widespread problem that India faces today. Similarly, the oppression of various tribal groups, religious communities and conditioned thinking that perpetuates stereotypical thinking surrounding these are among several things that need to be challenged through language, art and poetry. Of Reflections and Society illustrates these issues and explains the darkness we’ll be entering if we don’t take steps to prevent the building up of such a social atmosphere today. It also talks about the resistance of people who’ve struggled, of women who face obstacles at every step of their life, of people who reach realization. Does India not need the poems of realism today? When will we be realistic and face the issues that this society in various incidents throws at us? This is the time to read on and take actions. In 2012, a gruesome incident had shaken our country in December. ‘Dear Nirbhaya’ is the poem written in retrospect of what devastated us and made the students of colleges come out to protest. The way that peaceful protest was discouraged left me with questions. It is a poem of both tribute and a promise to Nirbhaya that we will have to fight to prevent cannibalism of this nature.

This book was released on 2016-11-09 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a Foreword by Professor Katharine Phillips and an Introduction by Professor David Veale and Doctor Rob Willson. Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is characterised by a preoccupation with a perceived defect, or defects, in one's appearance. These 'flaws' are either unnoticeable to the outside eye or seen as nothing more than a normal physical variation. To the person with BDD however, the abhorred aspects of their appearance cause significant shame and distress. Some hide away and become housebound, sometimes for many years. BDD affects males and females almost equally and has one of the highest suicide rates of any mental illness. Despite the extreme suffering experienced by people with BDD, it is possible to learn to cope with and even completely move beyond it. The stories in this volume powerfully attest to this. Gathered here are thirty-six lived experiences of people with BDD and their loved ones. They are stories of tremendous bravery, immeasurable determination and incredible hope.

Book Distance Memories

Download or read book Distance Memories written by Scott Ludwig and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ive been around the block a few times. Over half a million times, actually. Assuming a block is approximately 100 yards long and 100 yards wide, running just over 130,000 lifetime miles equates to a few more than 500,000 times around the block. So yeah, Ive been around the block a few times. Ive had my share of ups and downs. The Boston Marathon, the Badwater Ultramarathon and having whatever it takes to run every single day since November 30, 1978 would fall into the former; an aging body, injuries, andwell, to be totally honest falling down while running much too often these days would fall into the latter. But its been a good, long run and I wouldnt have wanted it any other way. My wife Cindy believes the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon signaled the beginning of my declining health and running ability. I beg to differ: I believe it was my (last place, and darn proud of it) finish in the 2006 Western States Endurance Run that catapulted me into the downside of my running career. However, I have no regrets. As I said earlier its been a good, long run and I wouldnt have wanted it any other way. Besides, if it had been any other way I wouldnt have had the many tales you will find in this book that you, quite frankly, could not possibly find anywhere else. These are my stories frommy experiencesand my perspectives on running as well as life. Theyre all absolutely true. Theyre all brutally honest. Theyre all from the heart. Most of all, theyre all mine. Scott Ludwig, 2013

Book Metanoia A Catholic Book Series Book Number Two Prayer and the Tingling Grace

Download or read book Metanoia A Catholic Book Series Book Number Two Prayer and the Tingling Grace written by Cecil Donald Leighton, Jr. and published by Cecil Donald Leighton, Jr.. This book was released on 2023-09-23 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metanoia: A Catholic Book Series, Book Number Two: Prayer and the Tingling Grace (Second Edition) is the author’s second publication in a series of Catholic books. In Prayer and the Tingling Grace (Second Edition), the author sets forth his experience with what he calls the tingling grace. The tingling grace is a “grace of prayer,” according to one of the author’s past confessors, a Carmelite priest. As such, it has most commonly been experienced by novice monks and nuns, during prayer. However, according to the Carmelite priest, about five percent of lay Catholics also experience it. In the pages that follow, the author recounts his understanding of and experiences with the tingling grace, a sensible manifestation of actual grace given by a loving and guiding God to encourage the performance of salvific and salutary acts, such as prayer, blessings, frequenting the sacraments, spiritual reading, spiritual and corporeal works of mercy, and discernment of one's vocation. He is publishing it to testify and/or witness to this amazing actual grace and God’s love, sanctification, and guidance of ordinary Catholics, in light of the current crisis of faith inside and outside the Church. Finally, this book is part of the author’s lay apostolate of Roman Catholic witness to the reality, power, and transforming/saving Love of God, as well as the author’s response to and promotion of the Church’s “universal call to holiness” (Lumen Gentium) and the “new evangelization” (Novo Millenio Ineunte), in the electronically and globally connected virtual world of the Internet.
