En las columnas laterales radica la parte más original de este diccionario. En ellas se presenta información relacionada con alguna de las palabras definidas. Las posibilidades son variadas y van desde acotaciones gramaticales enfocadas a evitar errores en el uso de esa palabra, hasta comentarios históricos, geográficos, sociales, etc. que amplíen el bagaje cultural del lector. Pero, sobre todo, lo más frecuente es que estas columnas sean ventanas abiertas al mundo de la literatura, a los clásicos de la literatura infantil y juvenil, a los libros de reciente publicación que más han asombrado a los jóvenes lectores, a las fábulas de siempre, a los poemas más ingeniosos… Y una sorpresa: dentro de nuestro diccionario cobrará vida la historia de Marena, una muchacha dispuesta a sumergirnos en un mundo de aventuras que, esperamos, atrape la atención del lector a la vez que le ayuda a comprender el significado de las palabras.
