Book Nucleation and Growth of Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposited Diamond Film

Download or read book Nucleation and Growth of Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposited Diamond Film written by Inderjeet Kaur and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleation density and the growth rates were monitor using scanning electron micrographs. It was discovered that nucleation was both dense and fast on the diamond scratched silicon surface. On the other hand, on the untreated silicon surface nucleation was both sparse and slow. The SiC scratched surface gave a slight enhancement in nucleation density over the untreated surface. A complete results of the study will be presented together with a detailed discussion of the possible mechanisms involved in the nucleation behavior of diamond on silicon surfaces. [Authors' abstract].

Book excerpt: - Discusses the most advanced techniques for diamond growth - Assists diamond researchers in deciding on the most suitable process conditions - Inspires readers to devise new CVD (chemical vapor deposition Ever since the early 1980s, and the discovery of the vapour growth methods of diamond film, heteroexpitaxial growth has become one of the most important and heavily discussed topics amongst the diamond research community. Kobashi has documented such discussions with a strong focus on how diamond films can be best utilised as an industrial material, working from the premise that crystal diamond films can be made by chemical vapour disposition. Kobashi provides information on the process and characterization technologies of oriented and heteroepitaxial growth of diamond films.

Book Field Emission from Bias grown Diamond Thin Films in a Microwave Plasma

Download or read book Field Emission from Bias grown Diamond Thin Films in a Microwave Plasma written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of producing diamond or diamond like films in which a negative bias is established on a substrate with an electrically conductive surface in a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition system. The atmosphere that is subjected to microwave energy includes a source of carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen. The negative bias is maintained on the substrate through both the nucleation and growth phase of the film until the film is continuous. Biases between -100V and -200 are preferred. Carbon sources may be one or more of CH.sub. 4, C.sub. 2 H.sub. 2 other hydrocarbons and fullerenes.

Book Non Classical Crystallization of Thin Films and Nanostructures in CVD and PVD Processes

Download or read book Non Classical Crystallization of Thin Films and Nanostructures in CVD and PVD Processes written by Nong Moon Hwang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to a recently-developed approach to the growth mechanism of thin films and nanostructures via chemical vapour deposition (CVD). Starting from the underlying principles of the low pressure synthesis of diamond films, it is shown that diamond growth occurs not by individual atoms but by charged nanoparticles. This newly-discovered growth mechanism turns out to be general to many CVD and some physical vapor deposition (PVD) processes. This non-classical crystallization is a new paradigm of crystal growth, with active research taking place on growth in solution, especially in biomineralization processes. Established understanding of the growth of thin films and nanostructures is based around processes involving individual atoms or molecules. According to the author’s research over the last two decades, however, the generation of charged gas phase nuclei is shown to be the rule rather than the exception in the CVD process, and charged gas phase nuclei are actively involved in the growth of films or nanostructures. This new understanding is called the theory of charged nanoparticles (TCN). This book describes how the non-classical crystallization mechanism can be applied to the growth of thin films and nanostructures in gas phase synthesis. Based on the author’s graduate lecture course, the book is aimed at senior undergraduate and graduate students and researchers in the field of thin film and nanostructure growth or crystal growth. It is hoped that a new understanding of the growth processes of thin films and nanostructures will reduce trial-and-error in research and in industrial fabrication processes.
