Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The credit of introducing Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs) as a powerful research tool in the early sixties goes to P.B. Price, R.L. Fleischer and R.M. Walker of the General Electric Company of the United States of America. Basically, SSNTDs are dielectric materials or solid insulators such as mica, glass, synthetic plastics, etc. which record and permanently store the trajectory of fast moving charged particles in the form of submicroscopic trails of continuous damage called latent tracks. The present Volume consists of one dozen Papers on Applications of SSNTDs in various fields; Radon Studies covering more than half of this Volume.

Book CR 39 Plastic Nuclear Track Detectors in Physics Research

Download or read book CR 39 Plastic Nuclear Track Detectors in Physics Research written by Dazhuang Zhou and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CR-39 plastic nuclear track detectors have proved to be one of the most useful nuclear track detectors in physics research. They have made significant contributions to research in the fields of particle radiation at aviation altitudes, in space, and in the natural environment. Other uses have included radiation risk estimation, the search for magnetic monopoles and the investigation of energetic particles generated by the low energy nuclear reactions (LENRs) in condensed matter nuclear science (CMNS). This book describes the methods and applications using CR-39 detectors in several important physics research areas and presents results obtained.

Book Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors

Download or read book Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors written by H. François and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 1119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors is a collection of papers that covers various aspects of solid state nuclear track detectors. The book presents 130 articles that cover the concerns in the mechanisms, operations, and applications of solid state nuclear track detectors. The materials in the text are thematically grouped into three parts. The book first discusses the fundamental mechanisms, which include determination of the screening parameter from measurements of differential energy loss and atomic displacement effects from heavy ion induced coulomb explosion. Next, the selection presents articles that deal with the methodology of detectors, such as experimental track widths of low energy heavy ions in nuclear emulsion and structure of light nuclei tracks. The remaining papers cover the fields of applications, such as nuclear fusion; prospection of radioactive and fissionable minerals; dosimetry; and autoradiography. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of disciplines related to nuclear science.

Book Nuclear Track Detectors

Download or read book Nuclear Track Detectors written by Maksim Sidorov and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Track detectors were discovered by Young, Silk and Barner and they have been widely used in science and technology. The detection technique based on using track detectors is presently called solid state nuclear track detection (SSNTD). This book condenses on the applications of this technique in the various scientific areas. Moreover, although the optical microscope has been the main tool for observations of etched tracks in solid state nuclear track detectors for many years, there has been relatively little investigation about the optical characteristics of these tracks. This book describes the application of the ray tracing method to light propagation through etched tracks. In addition, CR-39 plastic nuclear track detectors (PNTDs) are considered to be the most useful nuclear track detectors for high LET (Linear Energy Transfer) radiation research. This book summarises the methods and applications using CR-39 detectors and presents some updated results. This book also proposes readout architectures for pixel devices used in High-Energy Physics (HEP) where traditional, insufficiently fast structures, such as token-passing techniques, cannot fulfill speed requirements. Other chapters examine the biocompatibility of the polyallyldiglycol carbonate (PADC) films and the biocompatibility enhancement of chemically etched PADC films through superficial pore formation. Polycarbonates like Makrofol or the equivalent, which demonstrate remarkably high absorption ability to noble gases are examined as well.

Book Introduction to Nuclear Radiation Detectors

Download or read book Introduction to Nuclear Radiation Detectors written by P. Ouseph and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been many interesting developments in the field of nuclear radiation detectors, especially in those using semiconduct ing materials. The purpose of this book is to present a survey of the developments in semiconductor detectors along with discus sions about gas counters and scintillation counters. These discus sions are directed to detector users, usually scientists and technicians in different fields such as chemistry, geology, bio chemistry, and medicine. The operation of these detectors is discussed in terms of basic properties, such as efficiency, energy resolution, and resolving time, which are defmed in the first chapter. Differences among these detectors in terms of these properties are pointed out. Chapter 2, on interaction of radiations with matter, discusses how different radiations lose energies in matter and how differences in their behavior in matter affect the design and operation of detectors. Although emphasis is placed on fundamentals throughout the book, the reader is also made aware of the new developments in the field of radiation quite often detection. The author has taught a course in radioisotopes for several years for science, engineering, medical, and dental students. The emphasis on topics varied from time to time to satisfy the varying interests of the students. However, the contents of this book formed the core of the course. About ten selected experiments on detectors were done along with this course (a list of these vii Preface viii experiments may be supplied on request).

It also covers applications in medicine and life sciences. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access
