Book Optimal Control of Distributed Nuclear Reactors

Download or read book Optimal Control of Distributed Nuclear Reactors written by G.S. Christensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the mathematical optimization theory and modeling techniques that recently have been applied to the problem of controlling the shape and intensity of the power density distribution in the core of large nuclear reactors. The book has been prepared with the following purposes in mind: 1. To provide, in a condensed manner, the background preparation on reactor kinetics required for a comprehensive description of the main problems encountered in designing spatial control systems for nuclear reactor cores. 2. To present the work that has already been done on this subject and provide the basic mathematical tools required for a full understand ing of the different methods proposed in the literature. 3. To stimulate further work in this challenging area by weighting the advantages and disadvantages of the existing techniques and evaluating their effectiveness and applicability. In addition to coverage of the standard topics on the subject of optimal control for distributed parametersystems, the book includes, at amathemati cal level suitable for graduate students in engineering, discussions of con ceptsoffunctional analysis, the representation theory ofgroups, and integral equations. Although these topics constitute a requisite for a full understanding of the new developments in the area of reactor modeling and control, they are seidom treated together in a single book and, when they are, their presenta tion isoften directed to the mathematician. They are thus relatively unknown to the engineering community.

Book The Change of Paradigm in Nuclear Fuel Optimization

Download or read book The Change of Paradigm in Nuclear Fuel Optimization written by Sergey Pelykh and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-03-21 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph highlights pertinent problems in nuclear fuel optimization. It shows that the current approach does not allow us to predict the synergic effects leading to fuel-related accidents, and is characterized by great uncertainty with regards to estimating fuel cladding failure conditions and the reduced efficiency of fuel operation. The book describes in detail a new philosophy of nuclear fuel optimization based on the synergic paradigm, applicable to both operating and prospective reactors, in order to minimize radioactive leakage under normal and emergency fuel operating conditions, to resolve the safety-efficiency contradiction for nuclear fuel operation, and to predict new synergic effects due to processes of self-organization in the reactor core. It will appeal to researchers, academics, PhD students and engineers engaged in developing prospective nuclear reactor designs, as well as those who verify the safety and efficiency of nuclear fuel operation under increasingly challenging core conditions.

Book Computational Intelligence Optimization and Inverse Problems with Applications in Engineering

Download or read book Computational Intelligence Optimization and Inverse Problems with Applications in Engineering written by Gustavo Mendes Platt and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on metaheuristic methods and its applications to real-world problems in Engineering. The first part describes some key metaheuristic methods, such as Bat Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization, Differential Evolution, and Particle Collision Algorithms. Improved versions of these methods and strategies for parameter tuning are also presented, both of which are essential for the practical use of these important computational tools. The second part then applies metaheuristics to problems, mainly in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, and Nuclear Engineering. Other methods, such as the Flower Pollination Algorithm, Symbiotic Organisms Search, Cross-Entropy Algorithm, Artificial Bee Colonies, Population-Based Incremental Learning, Cuckoo Search, and Genetic Algorithms, are also presented. The book is rounded out by recently developed strategies, or hybrid improved versions of existing methods, such as the Lightning Optimization Algorithm, Differential Evolution with Particle Collisions, and Ant Colony Optimization with Dispersion - state-of-the-art approaches for the application of computational intelligence to engineering problems. The wide variety of methods and applications, as well as the original results to problems of practical engineering interest, represent the primary differentiation and distinctive quality of this book. Book A Field Guide to Genetic Programming

Download or read book A Field Guide to Genetic Programming written by and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genetic programming (GP) is a systematic, domain-independent method for getting computers to solve problems automatically starting from a high-level statement of what needs to be done. Using ideas from natural evolution, GP starts from an ooze of random computer programs, and progressively refines them through processes of mutation and sexual recombination, until high-fitness solutions emerge. All this without the user having to know or specify the form or structure of solutions in advance. GP has generated a plethora of human-competitive results and applications, including novel scientific discoveries and patentable inventions. This unique overview of this exciting technique is written by three of the most active scientists in GP. See www.gp-field-guide.org.uk for more information on the book.
