Book Design of the Reactor Core for Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Design of the Reactor Core for Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactor core is the central part of a nuclear reactor where nuclear fission occurs. It consists of four basic systems and components: the fuel (including fuel rods and the fuel assembly structure), the coolant, the moderator and the control rods, as well as additional structures such as reactor pressure vessel internals, core support plates, and the lower and upper internal structure in light water reactors. This Safety Guide provides recommendations on meeting the safety requirements established in IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSR-2/1 (Rev. 1), Safety of Nuclear Power Plants: Design, applied to the design of the reactor core for nuclear power plants. The publication addresses the safety aspects of the core design and includes neutronic, thermohydraulic, thermomechanical and structural mechanical aspects. Other aspects considered are those relating to reactor core control, shutdown and monitoring, and core management.

Book American National Standard

Download or read book American National Standard written by American Nuclear Society. Standards Committee Working Group ANS-57.2 and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This standard provides design criteria for the process of consolidating light water reactor spent nuclear fuel in either a wet or dry environment. The process utilizes the equipment and systems used to perform consolidation, handle fuel rods and nonfuel-bearing components as well as handle broken fuel rods. This standard also contains requirements for facility or installation interfaces, nuclear safety, structural design, thermal design, accountability, safeguards, decommissioning, and quality assurance. The standard is not concerned with the storage of the spent fuel either before or after the consolidation process.

Book Nuclear Power

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 1992-02-01
  • ISBN : 0309043956
  • Pages : 234 pages

Download or read book Nuclear Power written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1992-02-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of nuclear power plants in the United States is stopping, as regulators, reactor manufacturers, and operators sort out a host of technical and institutional problems. This volume summarizes the status of nuclear power, analyzes the obstacles to resumption of construction of nuclear plants, and describes and evaluates the technological alternatives for safer, more economical reactors. Topics covered include: Institutional issues-including regulatory practices at the federal and state levels, the growing trends toward greater competition in the generation of electricity, and nuclear and nonnuclear generation options. Critical evaluation of advanced reactors-covering attributes such as cost, construction time, safety, development status, and fuel cycles. Finally, three alternative federal research and development programs are presented.

Book American National Standard

Download or read book American National Standard written by American Nuclear Society. Standards Committee Working Group ANS-58.14 and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This standard specifies criteria for the safety classification of items [structures, systems, components, and parts (including consumables)] in a light water reactor nuclear power plant as either safety-related (Q), supplemented grade (S), or non-safety-related (N). Criteria are also provided to establish a procurement subclassification within Class Q, called commercial grade (C). In addition, pressure integrity classification criteria are provided for the assignment of Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 to the pressure retaining portions of items. Withdrawn as an ANSI standard, 2003.
