Download or read book Design of the Reactor Core for Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactor core is the central part of a nuclear reactor where nuclear fission occurs. It consists of four basic systems and components: the fuel (including fuel rods and the fuel assembly structure), the coolant, the moderator and the control rods, as well as additional structures such as reactor pressure vessel internals, core support plates, and the lower and upper internal structure in light water reactors. This Safety Guide provides recommendations on meeting the safety requirements established in IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSR-2/1 (Rev. 1), Safety of Nuclear Power Plants: Design, applied to the design of the reactor core for nuclear power plants. The publication addresses the safety aspects of the core design and includes neutronic, thermohydraulic, thermomechanical and structural mechanical aspects. Other aspects considered are those relating to reactor core control, shutdown and monitoring, and core management.

Book Design and Construction of Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Design and Construction of Nuclear Power Plants written by Rüdiger Meiswinkel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-10 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite all the efforts being put into expanding renewable energy sources, large-scale power stations will be essential as part of a reliable energy supply strategy for a longer period. Given that they are low on CO2 emissions, many countries are moving into or expanding nuclear energy to cover their baseload supply. Building structures required for nuclear plants whose protective function means they are classified as safety-related, have to meet particular construction requirements more stringent than those involved in conventional construction. This book gives a comprehensive overview from approval aspects given by nuclear and construction law, with special attention to the interface between plant and construction engineering, to a building structure classification. All life cycle phases are considered, with the primary focus on execution. Accidental actions on structures, the safety concept and design and fastening systems are exposed to a particular treatment. Selected chapters from the German concrete yearbook are now being published in the new English "Beton-Kalender Series" for the benefit of an international audience. Since it was founded in 1906, the Ernst & Sohn "Beton-Kalender" has been supporting developments in reinforced and prestressed concrete. The aim was to publish a yearbook to reflect progress in "ferro-concrete" structures until - as the book's first editor, Fritz von Emperger (1862-1942), expressed it - the "tempestuous development" in this form of construction came to an end. However, the "Beton-Kalender" quickly became the chosen work of reference for civil and structural engineers, and apart from the years 1945-1950 has been published annually ever since.

Book American National Standard

Download or read book American National Standard written by American Nuclear Society. Standards Committee Working Group ANS-51.1 and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This standard establishes the nuclear safety criteria and functional design requirements of structures, systems, and components of stationary pressurized water reactor (PWR) power plants. Operations, maintenance, and testing requirements are covered only to the extent that they affect design provisions. A methodology is given for classifying all equipment into one of three Safety Classes according to its importance to nuclear safety or into a Non-Nuclear Safety Class. Another methodology is given for identifying and categorizing into one of five Plant Conditions the normal operations and events for which the plant shall be designed. Acceptance criteria are given for each Plant Condition. Specific design requirements are given for each major system in a typical plant. These requirements are related to other, more specific design standards and are intended to amplify the criteria given in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, "Energy," Part 50, "Licensing of Production and Utilization Facilities," Appendix A, "General Design Criteria for Nuclear Power Plants".
