Book Density and Moisture Content Measurements by Nuclear Methods

Download or read book Density and Moisture Content Measurements by Nuclear Methods written by L. F. Ballard and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data is provided from an evaluation of the accuracy of the nuclear gages in comparison with the currently used non- nuclear methods of determining soil density and moisture content. The research study was principally theoretical in nature and was conducted in two parts with each part respectively considering density and moisture content. Two existing commercial gages were evaluated, and a nominal experimental program employing non-soil standards of known density and composition was conducted to verify the density results. The results of the moisture content study were checked against data in the literature.

Book Optimization of Density and Moisture Content Measurements by Nuclear Methods

Download or read book Optimization of Density and Moisture Content Measurements by Nuclear Methods written by Robin P. Gardner and published by Highway Research Board. This book was released on 1971 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective was to minimize the errors identified with measurement of density and moisture content of soils using nuclear gauges. To provide a reasonable basis for optimization, all identified errors were combined to yield a single criterion, the quality factor, which can be used to evaluate the over-all performance of a nuclear density gauge. Research aimed at minimizing moisture content measurement errors involved using the Monte Carlo or random walk method to simulate gauge response, checking the results of the simulation against experimental studies, and attempting to generalize the Monte Carlo results.

Book Nuclear Testing of Asphaltic Concrete Pavement and Soil Subgrades

Download or read book Nuclear Testing of Asphaltic Concrete Pavement and Soil Subgrades written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: The nuclear method of density determination can be applied successfully to density measurements of bituminous pavement. Paper 2: A description is given of the investigation made by the Colorado Department of Highways into the feasibility and practicality of using commercially available nuclear devices to perform moisture and density tests in the field on highway construction materials. The correlation found between nuclear and conventional methods is presented along with an explanation of the equipment and its basic functions.
