Book Nuclear Fuel Waste Management

Download or read book Nuclear Fuel Waste Management written by Reto Zach and published by Pinawa, Manitoba : Environmental Science Branch, Whiteshell Laboratories. This book was released on 1997 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report highlights many of the key achievements of the biosphere program in support of the development of the disposal concept for Canadian nuclear fuel waste, particularly those achievements related to the development of the BIOTRAC biosphere model and its supporting research. That model was used for the assessment and review of the disposal concept in an environmental impact statement (EIS). The report also treats highlights related to alternative models, external scientific/technical reviews, EIS feedback, and the international BIOMOVS model validation program. Furthermore, it highlights basic aspects of future modelling and research needs in relation to siting a disposal facility, taking into account feedback from the various reviews and the EIS. Appendices include listings of key staff involved, all the scientific/technical reports produced, contracts let to outside agencies, and issues raised during the EIS review.

Book Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing And Waste Management

Download or read book Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing And Waste Management written by Jinsuo Zhang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of how to effectively, efficiently, and responsibly manage used nuclear fuels is a concern of major impediment in the light of today's increasing usage of nuclear power and development of advanced nuclear reactors. This book focuses on two significant areas of (used) nuclear fuel: the reprocessing technology, and waste disposal and management. The book covers the fundamental knowledge, the current state-of-the-art, and future research activities for each topic. This book provides readers with the fundamental knowledge behind of nuclear used fuel reprocessing and radioactive waste management, and their technical applications, and their requirements and practices; to make the readers aware of social, economic, and environmental concerns as well as technical research needs. The book covers two well-known and well-developed reprocessing technologies: aqueous reprocessing technology, and electrochemical pyroprocessing. On the subject of waste management, it covers the dry storage of used nuclear fuel, novel waste form design, and nuclear waste disposal. This book is a good guide for readers who want to understand, apply, or develop the technologies.

Book Management of Radioactive Waste

Download or read book Management of Radioactive Waste written by Jean-Claude Amiard and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-09-22 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classification of radioactive waste varies from state to state. This results in different management procedures for each country, while following IAEA and OECD/NEA recommendations. Radioactive waste comes from numerous sources. The largest volumes are generated by the decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear facilities. Long-lived, medium- and high-activity waste – categorized as the most hazardous types of waste – are in fact largely produced by nuclear power reactors, spent fuel reprocessing plants and nuclear accidents. Final disposal of very low-activity, low-activity and very short-lived waste is well controlled. However, final solutions for certain categories, including long-lived waste, sorted waste and spent graphite waste, are not yet in place. Management of Radioactive Waste reviews all the possible solutions and presents those chosen by the various states, including a chapter detailing policy on radioactive waste management, taking France as an example.
