  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2015
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : pages

Download or read book NREL SolarCity written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn how NREL is partnering with SolarCity to study how to better integrate rooftop solar onto the grid. The work includes collaboration with the Hawaiian Electric Companies (HECO) to analyze high-penetration solar scenarios using advanced modeling and inverter testing at the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) on NREL's campus. Results to date have been so promising that HECO has more than doubled the amount of rooftop solar it allows on its grid, showing utilities across the country that distributed solar is not a liability for reliability--and can even be an asset.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed roadmap of technical, economic, and institutional actions by the wind industry, the wind research community, and others to optimize wind's potential contribution to a cleaner, more reliable, low-carbon, domestic energy generation portfolio, utilizing U.S. manu-facturing and a U.S. workforce. The roadmap is intended to be the beginning of an evolving, collaborative, and necessarily dynamic process. It thus suggests an approach of continual updates at least every two years, informed by its analysis activities. Roadmap actions are identified in nine topical areas, introduced below.

Book NREL Confirms Large Potential for Grid Integration of Wind Solar Power Fact Sheet

Download or read book NREL Confirms Large Potential for Grid Integration of Wind Solar Power Fact Sheet written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To fully harvest the nation's bountiful wind and solar resources, it is critical to know how much electrical power from these renewable resources could be integrated reliably into the grid. To inform the discussion about the potential of such variable sources, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) launched two key regional studies, examining the east and west sections of the U.S. power grid. The studies show that it is technically possible for U.S. power systems to integrate 20%-35% renewable electricity if infrastructure and operational improvements can be made.

Book Managing Solar Photovoltaic Integration in the Western United States Appendix Reference and High Solar Photovoltaic Scenarios for Three Regions

Download or read book Managing Solar Photovoltaic Integration in the Western United States Appendix Reference and High Solar Photovoltaic Scenarios for Three Regions written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This slide deck is an appendix to a paper series that examines potential challenges related to planning future power systems with higher solar photovoltaic (PV) penetrations. The series uses the western U.S. power system for these investigations because it is a region the authors and their colleagues have already extensively studied. We are therefore well-suited to analyze even higher PV penetrations and then examine the results in multiple models to determine whether our current approaches are missing key details that only emerge at higher PV penetrations. This deck details the systems underlying those analyses and how they were modeled using the Resource Planning Model (RPM), a capacity expansion modeling tool. We examine both Western Interconnection-wide and regional results for three regions in the Western U.S. with significantly different existing power systems and connections to neighboring regions; this provides a more balanced picture as to how power systems with high PV penetration might emerge in different contexts and what the resulting grid challenges, if any, might be.

Book Final Project Report Improving Cost Reliability and Grid Integration of High Concentration Photovoltaic Systems

Download or read book Final Project Report Improving Cost Reliability and Grid Integration of High Concentration Photovoltaic Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consistent with the California Solar Initiative (CSI) mandate for Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D), this project's objective was to provide technology and knowledge advancements enabling California to deploy a high percentage of ultra clean, secure and reliable solar electric generation at the lowest possible cost. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) funded a team led by Amonix for the project entitled 'Improving Cost, Reliability and Grid Integration of High Concentration Photovoltaic Systems.' The Amonix High Concentration Photovoltaic systems, often called Concentrator PV or simply CPV, used lenses to focus 500 times incident sunlight onto small, highly efficient PV cells. As an emerging technology in solar markets, CPV is well suited for large multi-MW solar projects. Project members included utility systems research engineers from UCI's Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) and reliability scientists and engineers from NREL and Amonix. The project agreement was signed on January 1, 2011 and task work was completed on December 31, 2013.
