Download or read book Now Let Me Tell You What I Really Think written by Chris Matthews and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-04-24 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chris Matthews has been playing "hardball" since the day he was born. From his first political run-in in the first grade to his years working as presidential speechwriter for Jimmy Carter and top aide to Tip O'Neill, Matthews grew up loving his country and dreaming of his chance to protect it. As one of the most honest, brash, and in-your-face journalists on TV, he has finally gotten the chance. The host of television's Hardball and bestselling author of such classics as Hardball and Kennedy & Nixon, Matthews is a political cop who insists on the truth and nothing but. In this latest work, Now, Let Me Tell You What I Really Think, Chris Matthews is at his brilliant, blunt, bulldogged best. From the Cold War to the Clinton years, Matthews gives the straight-up account of what it means to be an American. Matthews tells us about his "God and Country" Catholic school education in Philadelphia complete with Cold War air-raid drills and his early enthusiasm for politics. He shares with us his life's adventures: two years in Africa with the Peace Corps, the challenge of running for Congress in his twenties, and his three decades deep in the "belly of the beast" of American politics. Matthews has made his name as a razor-sharp journalist who cross-examines the politicians in Washington and takes on the Los Angeles and New York elite who view America's heartland as "fly-over country." In Now, Let Me Tell You What I Really Think, Matthews rallies those who "work hard and play by the rules" and celebrates the wisdom learned from a U.S. Capitol policeman more than twenty years ago, "The little man loves his country, because it's all he's got." A hard-to-categorize maverick with an uncool love for his country, Matthews gives an irreverent look at who we are and whom we trust to lead us.

Download or read book Drive written by Daniel H. Pink and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-04-05 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller that gives readers a paradigm-shattering new way to think about motivation from the author of When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing Most people believe that the best way to motivate is with rewards like money—the carrot-and-stick approach. That's a mistake, says Daniel H. Pink (author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others). In this provocative and persuasive new book, he asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction-at work, at school, and at home—is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world. Drawing on four decades of scientific research on human motivation, Pink exposes the mismatch between what science knows and what business does—and how that affects every aspect of life. He examines the three elements of true motivation—autonomy, mastery, and purpose-and offers smart and surprising techniques for putting these into action in a unique book that will change how we think and transform how we live.
Download or read book Winning the White House 2008 written by K. McMahon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-08-31 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it take to win the White House? This book helps students understand both the issues and how and why people vote for one candidate. After discussing the dynamics of the primary campaigns, the authors examine three broad sets of issues that play a key role in voting: foreign policy, domestic policies, and the culture wars. This sets the foundations for an examination of regional similarities and differences in voting patterns, as the varying salience and valence of issues-whether general or specific-is explored across and within regions. Special attention is paid to battleground states. Drawing on concepts from political science, this book advances students' understanding both of the field and the phenomenon.

Download or read book Daddy Reflections of Father Daughter Relationships written by K E Garland and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A father¿s presence is important in a daughter¿s life. He is the first man a little girl sees and knows. He demonstrates how men relate to women. But what happens when the father-daughter relationship is dysfunctional? Daddy answers that question. Included are fourteen memoirs that describe the impact a failed father-daughter relationship can have. These women share essays and narratives that detail various stages of breakdown. Whether an event occurred in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood, each story explains how their father¿s physical, emotional, or psychological abandonment has affected them. The book is separated into two parts. Part I shows the proverbial truth in the phrase, hurt people hurt people. While some stories confirm why or how men mistreat their daughters, others show how daughters sometimes internalize neglect and continue the cycle either with the relationship they have with themselves, or others. Part II illustrates how compassion can lead towards a path of inner peace and happiness, no matter the state of the relationship.

Download or read book The Catalysts written by Ruby Nari Mayo and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was going on ten o'clock the next morning when Luther heard a car pull into the ranch yard. He opened the barn door and saw the SUV. The driver's and two back doors open and three people got out. Luther stopped in his tracks. Now who in the heck was this? Could it be his new southern cook had two children? Why hadn't he mentioned that little bit of news on the phone yesterday? Well, we'll see about this! He wasn't a happy man. Luther walked purposely toward the car that stood by the front porch. Just then a chilled wind whipped the lady's hat away. The woman's hair, free of its confine, flew out like a blond flag streaming in the wind. She reached up grabbing at her hair as the same frisky wind opened her coat wide enough for Luther to catch a glimpse of this delightfully shaped...lady. Oh...Wow! Luther's anger was momentarily forgotten that she was here to interview for a job. Myohmy, some southern lady, was all he could think! As he walked toward her he swept up her hat that was tumbling along the ground. "Welcome to Rocking Horse, Ma'am, I'm Luther Strong-bow." he was rather proud of being able to overcome his surprise. "I'm Miss Golight, Sir." Oh, that velvety, southern voice. Lord, help me now! "Ah, pleased to meet you. We'd better go in as the storm looks to be arriving earlier than expected." he said and offered the hat back to her. Luther opened the front door and caught a whiff of some light perfume as she passed by him causing his nose to quiver like a rabbit's. Whoa boy, that's not a good sign. Luther struggled to bring himself back to a business-like mode.

Download or read book A Scandalous Freedom written by Steve Brown and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A reader’s delight, A Scandalous Freedom sometimes shocks with challenges to prevailing wisdom, but it follows up with compelling validations of our need to celebrate real, unstinted freedom in Christ. Christians do not trust freedom. As author Steve Brown explains in this brave new book, they prefer the security of rules and self-imposed boundaries, which they tend to inflict on other Christians. Brown asserts that real freedom means the freedom to be wrong as well as right. Christianity often calls us to live beyond the boundaries, bolstered by the assurance that we cannot fall beyond God’s love. Freedom is dangerous, but the alternative is worse—boxing ourselves up where we cannot celebrate our unique gifts and express our joy in Christ. Each of the book’s eleven chapters explores a common pharisaic, freedom-stifling tendency, then opens the door to the fresh air of a remedial liberty.
