Pasó la mayor parte de su vida en el convento y el eremitorio de San Marón de Annaya, dedicado a la oración y al trabajo en el campo. Murió el 24 de diciembre de 1898. Fue beatificado el 5 de diciembre de 1965 y canonizado por el papa san Pablo VI el 9 de octubre de 1977. La primera parte de este libro está dedicada a la vida de san Chárbel. La segunda, a sus sabias palabras, que nos invitan a cargar con nuestra cruz, a saber distinguir entre el bien y el mal, a liberarnos de nuestras ataduras y a amar a todos los hombres gratuitamente, sin límites ni condiciones, como Dios nos ama.
