Download or read book Participatory Action Research written by Jacques M. Chevalier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a key issue in higher learning, university education and scientific research: the widespread difficulty researchers, experts and students from all disciplines face when trying to contribute to change in complex social settings characterized by uncertainty and the unknown. More than ever, researchers need flexible means and grounded theory to combine people-based and evidence-based inquiry into challenging situations that keep evolving and do not lend themselves to straightforward technical explanations and solutions. In this book, the authors propose innovative strategies for engaged inquiry building on insights from many disciplines and lessons from the history of Participatory Action Research (PAR), including French psychosociology. The ongoing evolution of PAR has had a lasting legacy in fields ranging from community development to education, public engagement, natural resource management and problem solving in the workplace. All formulations have in common the idea that research must be done ‘with’ people and not ‘on’ or ‘for’ people. Inquiry of this kind makes sense of the world through efforts to transform it, as opposed to simply observing and studying human behaviour and people’s views about reality, in the hope that meaningful change will happen somewhere down the road. The book contributes many new tools and conceptual foundations to this longstanding tradition, grounded in real-life examples of collective fact-finding, analysis and decision-making from around the world. It provides a modular textbook on participatory action research and related methods, theory and practice, suitable for a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as working professionals.

This book was released on 2017-02-01T00:00:00-05:00 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2012-11-05 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: La recherche publique française souffre !

Download or read book Information Practices and Knowledge in Health written by Celine Paganelli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the field of health, information practices and the organization of knowledge constitute a major challenge today. The practices of the medical profession, or of patients, are evolving under the influence of digital technology. At the same time, the way in which medical knowledge is organized, represented and mediated is also evolving. Information Practices and Knowledge in Health addresses the different aspects of the field of specialized medical and health information; it focuses on the informational practices of professionals in the sector, of patients and, more broadly, of citizens with regards to their health. This book also considers the systems that are used for organizing knowledge in this field.
Download or read book World Yearbook of Education 2006 written by Jenny Ozga and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume considers the ways in which educational research is being shaped by policy across the globe. Policy effects on research are increasingly influential, as policies in and beyond education drive the formation of a knowledge-based economy by supporting increased international competitiveness through more effective, evidence-based interventions in schooling, education and training systems. What consequences does this increased steering have for research in education? How do transnational agencies make their influence felt on educational research? How do national systems and traditions of educational research - and relations with policy - respond to these new pressures? What effects does it have on the quality of research and on the freedom of researchers to pursue their own agendas? The 2006 volume of the World Yearbook of Education explores these issues, focusing on three key themes: globalising policy and research in education steering education research in national contexts global-local politics of education research. The 2006 volume has a truly global reach, incorporating transnational policy perspectives from the OECD and the European Commission, alongside national cases from across the world in contrasting contexts that include North and South America, Canada, France, Singapore, China, Russia and New Zealand. The range of contributions reflect how pervasive these developments are, how much is new in this situation and to what extent evidence-based policy pressures on research in education build on past relationships between education and policy. This book considers the impact of the steering processes on the work and identities of individual researchers and considers how research can be organised to play a more active role in the politics of the knowledge economy and learning society.

Download or read book Geographies of Globalized Education Privatization written by Kevin Mary and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the complex and various forms that privatization of education takes on a global scale at different ages of schooling. Through the spread of neoliberal policies in education both in the global North and the global South, the book suggests that this process is leading to new forms of schooling and socio-spatial dynamics linked to the creation of increasingly competitive school markets. The book highlights some of the main issues that such competition generates by focusing on the acceleration of the segregative processes on one hand but also on the alternatives that are emerging regarding this global context on the other hand. It considers processes of domination, hegemony, but also exclusion and segregation, eventually exploring contradictions inherent to societies. It presents innovative empirical and conceptual research by international scholars from the fields of social geography, sociology, history and demography in the United States, Lebanon, France, Afghanistan and Chile, thereby transcending disciplinary boundaries. Developed in under or unexplored contexts, the book broadens the reflection to social representations, individual and collective strategies, adaptation, innovation and also resistances.
Download or read book Regional Innovation Systems written by Hans-Joachim Braczyk and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first edition of this book in 1995, there has been a worldwide innovation-led economic boom and a subsequent slump, meaning enormous change has also occurred at the level of regional economies. The new edition registers this change and provides an interesting test of the robustness of the original arguments in the book. Not least, more industrial policy making is influenced by the RIS analysis, and many national and regional governments have adopted RIS approaches, along with related instruments like promotion of industry clusters, academic entrepreneurship, regional venture capital and science-led development strategies.
