Book Contemporary Criminological Issues

Download or read book Contemporary Criminological Issues written by Carolyn Côté-Lussier and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary Criminological Issues tackles some of today’s most pressing social issues, from the criminalization of Indigenous peoples to interpersonal violence, border control, and armed conflicts. This book advances cutting-edge theories and methods, with the aim of moving beyond the scholarship that reproduces insecurity and exclusion. The breadth of approaches encompasses much of the current critical criminological scholarship, serving as a counterpoint to the growth of managerial and administrative criminologies and the rise of explicitly exclusionary and punitive state policies and practices with respect to ‘crime’ and ‘security.’ This edited collection featuring two books, one in English and one in French, includes important contributions to knowledge and public policy by eminent experts and emerging scholars. This book is published in English.

Book Physical Reality and Mathematical Description

Download or read book Physical Reality and Mathematical Description written by C.P. Enz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays is intended as a tribute to Josef Maria Jauch on his sixtieth birthd~. Through his scientific work Jauch has justly earned an honored name in the community of theo retical physicists. Through his teaching and a long line of dis tinguished collaborators he has put an imprint on modern mathema tical physics. A number of Jauch's scientific collaborators, friends and admirers have contributed to this collection, and these essays reflect to some extent Jauch's own wide interests in the vast do main of theoretical physics. Josef Maria Jauch was born on 20 September 1914, the son of Josef Alois and Emma (nee Conti) Jauch, in Lucerne, Switzerland. Love of science was aroused in him early in his youth. At the age of twelve he came upon a popular book on astronomy, and an exam ple treated in this book mystified him. It was stated that if a planet travels around a centre of Newtonian attraction with a pe riod T, and if that planet were stopped and left to fall into the centre from any point of the circular orbit, it would arrive at the centre in the time T/I32. Young Josef puzzled about this for several months until he made his first scientific discovery : that this result could be derived from Kepler's third law in a quite elementary way.

Book Neuroscientific Foundations of Anesthesiology

Download or read book Neuroscientific Foundations of Anesthesiology written by George A. Mashour and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-05 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the perioperative care of patients by anesthesiologists draws on diverse clinical skills, the principles of anesthesiology and pain management are rooted in the neurosciences. The Neuroscientific Foundations of Anesthesiology thoroughly examines the anesthetic modulation of the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems and will help redefine anesthesiology as a fundamentally neuroscientific field. The book is organized by sections, with each focusing on a different part of the nervous system. State-of-the-art chapters written by thought-leaders in anesthesiology and neuroscience provide a novel and invaluable resource.

  • Author : D Brian Spalding
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2014-05-18
  • ISBN : 1483188175
  • Pages : 393 pages

Download or read book Genmix written by D Brian Spalding and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genmix: A General Computer Program for Two-dimensional Parabolic Phenomena explains a computer program called GENMIX. The main intention of the program is to be used as a tool of instructions. The name of the program is a mixture of two considerations: its generality and its concern for mixing processes. The book aims to help the potential user to understand the physical and mathematical basis of the topic computer program. It is also the aim of the book to make the program applicable to practical problems. The book is arranged in such a way as to parallel a course of lectures and associated computer-workshop sessions wherein the student is allowed to do some elementary computations as soon as he has gained some knowledge of the method. The book contains the mathematical, physical, and computer-coding aspects of the program. Concepts such as the boundary layer, two-dimensional, and steady- flow are defined and discussed in depth. The text will be a useful tool for computer instructors and students.

Book Local Approximation Techniques in Signal and Image Processing

Download or read book Local Approximation Techniques in Signal and Image Processing written by Vladimir I︠A︡kovlevich Katkovnik and published by SPIE-International Society for Optical Engineering. This book was released on 2006 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with a wide class of novel and efficient adaptive signal processing techniques developed to restore signals from noisy and degraded observations. These signals include those acquired from still or video cameras, electron microscopes, radar, X-rays, or ultrasound devices, and are used for various purposes, including entertainment, medical, business, industrial, military, civil, security, and scientific. In many cases useful information and high quality must be extracted from the imaging. However, often raw signals are not directly suitable for this purpose and must be processed in some way. Such processing is called signal reconstruction. This book is devoted to a recent and original approach to signal reconstruction based on combining two independent ideas: local polynomial approximation and the intersection of confidence interval rule.

Book Education and the French Revolution

Download or read book Education and the French Revolution written by H. C. Barnard and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-02-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The French Revolution was the first of the great social upheavals which transformed European society; its effects on the French national educational system and its wider influence on education is obviously important. Little has been written on the topic and Professor Barnard offers a modern study. He begins with a survey of the educational system under the Ancien Régime and describes the criticisms and schemes of reform which had already been offered before the Revolution. Then follow accounts of the educational activities of the revolutionary assemblies and the individual institutions set up during the period. The story ends with an account of the lasting influence of these reforms. Throughout, Professor Barnard emphasises the importance of the concept of education as a fundamental civic right and the duty of the state to provide and regulate it. The book gives the student of the history of education, of social history and modern France a useful survey of a central topic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The questions of how a large population of neurons in the brain functions, how synchronized firing of neurons is achieved, and what factors regulate how many and which neurons fire under different conditions form the central theme of this book. Important neurological techniques for the physiological reconstruction of a large biological neural network are presented.
