Book Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel

Download or read book Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel written by Randall M. German and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1998-03-31 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide to current practices Powder metallurgy processes increasingly dominate the production of iron and steel components for a variety of machines, appliances, automobiles, and tools. These processes yield high-quality precision components, recycle scrap metals into useful powders, and consume less energy than traditional manufacturing methods. Despite the tremendous growth in this area, however, until now there has been no guide on practical issues in the field. Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel fills the need for a fundamental, nonmathematical treatment of this technology. Focusing on the most useful applications and the advantages of different production techniques, this systematic, self-contained volume provides serious help in tackling production problems on the factory floor. It covers the gamut of practical topics, from injection molding and compaction processes to sintering, full-density processes, heat treatments, finishing operations, and the mechanical properties of many products, including die-compacted steels. Written by a leading authority and designer of educational programs for the industry, Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel: Emphasizes current practices and real engineering materials in everyday manufacturing processes Keeps the mathematics simple, boxing the calculations outside the main body of text Includes research articles and trade information from a variety of sources Features numerous pictures and flow diagrams Includes an appendix with an extensive list of definitions This important tutorial for an expanding work force is accessible to scientists and engineers alike, as well as technicians, production supervisors, designers, consultants, and marketing personnel. It is also an excellent textbook for undergraduate and industrial courses.

Book Control and Analysis in Iron and Steelmaking

Download or read book Control and Analysis in Iron and Steelmaking written by R. V. Williams and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Analysis in Iron and Steelmaking discusses the associated instrumentations and processes involved in iron and steel manufacture, with an emphasis on the process technologies of its various stages. The book covers topics such as an introduction to steelmaking and its developments; the blast furnace – its control, operation, and instrumentation; and the process of direct reduction. The book also discusses other topics such as secondary steelmaking; methods and techniques in the analysis of steel; and mechanical and nondestructive testing of the properties of steel. The text is recommended for metallurgists and engineers who would like to know more about the processes in iron and steel manufacture, the principles behind them, and the progress of the field over the years.

Book An Outline of the Metallurgy of Iron Steel

Download or read book An Outline of the Metallurgy of Iron Steel written by A. Humboldt Sexton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of the Metallurgy of Iron Steel This book was prepared to meet a need which the first Author had felt in his teaching, viz., a book which, in one volume of moderate size, would cover the whole field of the Metallurgy of Iron and Steel. That the book has, to some extent at least, met this need is evidenced by the fact that a second edition has been called for. This edition has been carefully revised, and some chapters have been re-written, so that they may bring the information up to the present condition of our knowledge. Considerable attention has been given to the latest work in connection with the metallography and heat treatment of the metal. The difficulty of selection from the vast mass of material now available is very great, and the Authors have done their best to give an account of all the more important developments in processes and plant, whilst retaining as much of the older processes as is necessary to an understanding of modern developments. A few processes which are no longer in use are described on account of their historical interest. In such a work as this it is impossible that there should be much that is new, and the Authors wish to express their indebtedness to the writers who have gone before, particularly to Dr. Percy and Sir I. Lowthain Bell, who have passed away; and to Prof. Howe, Mr. H. H. Campbell, Dr. Stead, and other great workers who are still with us. The Authors have to thank the Councils of the various Societies for permission to use matter in their Proceedings, the Editors of various Technical Journals, and many private friends who have given help in various ways. In most cases the source of information and illustrations are acknowledged in the text or notes; but if this has been inadvertently omitted the Authors tender their sincere apology for the oversight. In the preparation of such a book, making use of notes accumulated through years of teaching, it is not always possible to ascertain the source from which information was obtained. To readers - especially students - the Authors would point out that no text-book can be more than a guide to reading. The books quoted should be referred to wherever possible, and no opportunity should be lost of referring to the original papers, as only by so doing can a real insight be obtained into the methods of the men who have made and are making the great industry, and whose influence for good in the world cannot be over-estimated; and one cannot make much progress himself till he has mastered the methods of those who have gone before.
