Book Lectures on Electromagnetism

Download or read book Lectures on Electromagnetism written by Ashok Das and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes on electromagnetism have evolved from graduate and undergraduate EM theory courses given by the author at the University of Rochester, with the basics presented with clarity and his characteristic attention to detail. The thirteen chapters cover, in logical sequence, topics ranging from electrostatics, magnetostatics and Maxwell''s equations to plasmas and radiation. Boundary value problems are treated extensively, as are wave guides, electromagnetic interactions and fields. This second edition comprises many of the topics expanded with more details on the derivation of various equations, particularly in the second half of the book that focuses on rather advanced topics. This set of lecture notes, written in a simple and lucid style and in a manner that is complementary to other texts on electromagnetism, will be a valuable addition to the physics bookshelf.

This book was released on 2014-07-07 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes cover classical electrodynamics at the level of advanced undergraduates or postgraduates. There is a strong emphasis on the general features of the electromagnetic field and, in particular, on the properties of electromagnetic radiation. It offers a comprehensive and detailed, as well as self-contained, account of material that can be covered in a one-semester course for students with a solid undergraduate knowledge of basic electricity and magnetism.

Book A Development of the Equations of Electromagnetism in Material Continua

Download or read book A Development of the Equations of Electromagnetism in Material Continua written by Harry F. Tiersten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tract is based on lecture notes for a course in mechanics that has been offered at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on and off for the past twenty years. The course is intended to provide graduate students in mechanics with an understanding of electromagnetism and prepare them for studies on the interaction of the electric and magnetic fields with deformable solid continua. As such, it is imperative that the distinction between particle and continuum descriptions of matter be carefully made and that the distinction between that which is inherently linear and that which is intrinsically nonlinear be clearly delineated. Every possible effort has been made on my part to achieve these ends. I wish to acknowledge the contributions of a number of students and faculty who attended the lectures over the years and who, by their questions and suggestions, significantly improved some of the sections. This preface would not be complete if I did not point out that my interest in electromagnetism was initiated and my attitude towards the development of the equations was influenced by lectures given by the late Professor R.D. Mindlin at Columbia University in the late nineteen fifties. I would like to thank Professor C. Truesdell for his helpful suggestions, which I feel significantly improved the clarity and readability of the Introduction, and Dr. M.G. Ancona for his comment concerning the clarity of an important point in Sec. 1.1.

Book The Theory of Electricity and Magnetism

Download or read book The Theory of Electricity and Magnetism written by Arthur Gordon Webster and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Electricity and Magnetism: Being Lectures on Mathematical Physics The theoretical writings of Hertz, Heaviside, Cohn and others have resulted in the systematization of Maxwell's theory and have made possible improvements in the mode of its presentation and nomenclature not contemplated by him. The extremely important and original contributions of Mr Oliver Heaviside are unfortunately but little adapted to the use of the student on account of their very voluminous character as a whole, as well as of an extreme conciseness of expression in individual parts. The few brilliant chapters on theoretical matters left by Hertz are hardly by way of exposition, but rather of a summing up of the conclusions of the theory.
