The grounds of attraction in these more distant parts being more nearly paralleled elsewhere, the distinctive interest of Niagara, as compared with that of other attractive scenery, is remarkably circumscribed and concentrated. These matchless conditions. So forcibly displayed by the Commissioners, must be held to be the most important factor in making Free Niagara a possibility. Once convinced that the purchase of a narrow neck of land would assure them control of the most beautiful region ever seen by man in his waking hours, the people of new-york were not long in deciding to ratify the bargain.
