Book Misunderstood Texts of the Bible Verses and Teachings of the New Testament Clarified and Explained

Download or read book Misunderstood Texts of the Bible Verses and Teachings of the New Testament Clarified and Explained written by Sir Robert Anderson and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-24 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sir Robert Anderson uses his investigative gifts to uncover and explain several of the most misunderstood verses in the Biblical New Testament. By employing a close and detailed reading of the holy text in its proper context, Anderson is able to clarify and expound upon the true meanings expressed. Several of the New Testament Gospel teachings are often misconstrued or oversimplified; their overall meaning, or simply the depth of the passages, are neglected. The author could not stand for such deficient scholarship of the Bible, and so published this informed commentary. Several of the passages isolated concern comments made by Biblical figures such as the Apostles John, Matthew and Paul. How their words are misread, downplayed or simply ignored in the schema of the New Testament lore is first identified, then dismissed by the author. Often, Anderson cites other passages in the Old and New Testament books which carry relevance or support the truth of the verse concerned.

Book Our Misunderstood Bible

Download or read book Our Misunderstood Bible written by Henry Clay Trumbull and published by . This book was released on 1907 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having found the gain to himself, and to some others, in the added light on Bible terms and truths by these explanations and corrections, the writer presents the statements and suggestions herewith, hoping that they may help still others. Yet none of the views here expressed are to be accepted by a Bible reader unless he find them to be conformable to Bible teachings on his more careful study. But in any event good can hardly fail to come of readers being stimulated to a closer examination of the grounds for believing or of questioning as to the ideas they have been accustomed to connect with certain Bible words and terms and truths. - Preface.

Book Our Misunderstood Bible

Download or read book Our Misunderstood Bible written by H. Clay Trumbull and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Misunderstood Bible: Common Errors About Bible Texts and Truths No book is, in its more important truths, easier to understand than the Bible. Yet, at the same time, no book has suffered more than the Bible from being misunderstood at important points, as well as in other particulars. Some of these misunderstandings are easily accounted for, and might be easily removed; others are not easily accounted for, yet have prevailed, without being accounted for, from generation to generation. There are many difficulties growing out of the radical differences between Oriental and Occidental methods of thought and speech, and customs and practises. Even such terms as "love" and "hate" can hardly be comprehended by a Westerner, as an Easterner would employ them, and on such a difference as this two schools of theology might array themselves in determined and persistent opposition. Again, the Oriental method of poetic imagery in ordinary speech is well nigh incomprehensible to the Occidental, accustomed as he is to cling to the letter of the text that killeth, as over against the spirit of a figure or an illustration that would give life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHENEVER the privileges and immunities of believers in Jesus are set forth in accordance with those teachings represented by such terms as the Higher Life, the Rest of Faith, Perfect Love, and Full Consecration, a certain specific number of passages of Scripture are, by the opposers of those views, cited in disproof of the same. These passages are set forth with no argument to show what their meaning must be, but with the assumption that their meaning is too plain to be misapprehended, and as for ever settling the question at issue. About forty years since, I put into the hands of my Biblical Instructor, the celebrated Moses Stuart, of Andover, Massachusetts, U.S., a work containing a carefully-written exposition of all those passages. I did so with the statement that I had expounded these and other passages in the light of the principles of Biblical interpretation which he had taught me, and with the earnest request that, if I had erred in the application of those principles, he would show me wherein I had done so. When I next met the aged and venerable Professor, he addressed me in these words: "I have read your book as you requested. I have done so with much interest and profit. I find the argument throughout sound and scriptural." The most careful subsequent observations of quite forty years' continuance have fully confirmed the writer in the absolute assurance of the correctness of those expositions, together with the assurance, equally absolute, that not one of these passages, when correctly interpreted, has the remotest bearing in opposition to the Higher Life teachings, while most of them confirm such teachings. Those expositions, in a flew, enlarged, and matured form, are set forth in the following pages. The design of the author in publishing this little work is, not only to take a great stumbling block out of the way of enquirers after a knowledge of their revealed privileges, as believers in Jesus, but to furnish a greatly needed Manual to which an appeal may be confidently had, when any of these passages are cited in disproof of the teachings under consideration. Book excerpt: For centuries, evangelicals who read the Bible literally have misused seven verses to convince the world that homosexuality is a sin and homosexuals sinners. Those verses have forced LGBTQ+ persons to live their lives under a cloud of shame and guilt. In Clobber the Passages, Mel White doesn't bother to explain the verses again. That's been done a thousand times. Instead, he blows away that dark cloud by celebrating the truth learned from America's leading mental and physical health professionals. Homosexuality like heterosexuality is just another of the Creator's mysterious gifts. White calls literalists to stop accusing LGBTQ+ people falsely and to start celebrating what they have achieved throughout history in music, science, athletics, politics, the arts, education, literature, the military, parenting, and even religion. Clobber the Passages presents LGBTQ+ people in a healthy new light and leaves that dark cloud of guilt and shame over the evangelical literalists where it belongs.

Download or read book Misread Passages of Scripture Classic Reprint written by J. Baldwin Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Misread Passages of Scripture Perhaps there is no passage of Scripture more constantly misunderstood than these simple words; and certainly there is no misunderstanding of Scripture which has exercised a more detrimental influence on the life and development of \the church. The whole passage con tains the very marrow of the doctrine of Christ concern ing His kingdom. It is the basis of its constitution. To this, its subjects have rightly looked in all ages for instruction as to its fundamental spirit, principles, and aims. Words more solemn, more pregnant, were never spoken in this world, in this universe, than these. They were spoken at the very crisis of universal destinies. They form the dividing line between the two eternities. From eternity all things had been working towards that hour - the consummation of the incarnation and to eter nity the influence of that hour would go forth, remould ing, regenerating all the worlds. Beyond any words that have ever been spoken, these words are worthy of intense and reverent attention. They are the words with which the Son of God passed on to the cross, that He might pass up to the throne.
