Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in December 1997 was a major achievement in the endeavour to tackle the problem of global climate change at the dawn of the 21st century. After many years of involvement in the negotiation process, the book's two internationally recognised authors now offer the international community a first hand and inside perspective of the debate on the Kyoto Protocol. The book provides a comprehensive scholarly analysis of the history and content of the Protocol itself as well as of the economic, political and legal implications of its implementation. It also presents a perspective for the further development of the climate regime. These important features make this book an indispensable working tool for policy makers, negotiators, academics and all those actively involved and interested in climate change issues in both the developed and developing world.

Book Le m canisme de contr le du respect du Protocole de Kyoto sur les changements climatiques

Download or read book Le m canisme de contr le du respect du Protocole de Kyoto sur les changements climatiques written by Juliette Voïnov Kohler and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Kyoto Protocol

Download or read book The Kyoto Protocol written by Christophe P. Vasser and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the The Kyoto Protocol which is a significant protocol to the international Framework Convention on Climate Change with the objective of reducing greenhouse gases that cause climate change. It was adopted on 11 December 1997 by the 3rd Conference of the Parties, which was meeting in Kyoto, and it entered into force on 16 February 2005. As of June 2008, 182 parties have ratified the protocol. Of these, 36 developed cg countries (plus the EU as a party in its own right) are required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the levels specified for each of them in the treaty (representing over 61.6% of emissions from Annex I countries), with three more countries intending to participate. One hundred thirty-seven (137) developing countries have ratified the protocol, including Brazil, China and India, but have no obligation beyond monitoring and reporting emissions. "The Kyoto Protocol" separates countries into two groups. Annex I includes developed nations, while Non-Annex I refers to developing countries. Emission limitations are only placed on Annex I countries. Non-Annex I nations participate by investing in projects that lower emissions in their own countries. For these projects, they earn carbon credits. These credits can be traded or sold to Annex I countries, which allow them a higher level of maximum carbon emissions for that period.

Book Negotiating the Kyoto Protocol

Download or read book Negotiating the Kyoto Protocol written by Heike Schröder and published by Lit Verlag. This book was released on 2001 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change has become an important policy area, one which has been gaining momentum since the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in December 1997. The Kyoto Protocol was adopted by 159 nations after a tenacious final marathon of negotiations, during which all unresolved issues were hammered out one by one. The commitments that were finally agreed upon exceeded the original expectations. Despite its shortcomings, the Kyoto Protocol is a constructive compromise worthy of commendation, and is therefore a remarkable diplomatic achievement. The aim of this book is not only to present an introduction to the historical, legal and political foundations of the Kyoto Protocol, but also to offer a thorough analysis of the negotiation process at the Kyoto Conference. It investigates the positions, interests and strategies of three crucial players, the EU, US and Japan, on the issue of climate change and examines how these influenced the outcome of the negotiations. Furthermore, it examines the impact of other factors on the final result. This book thus presents a unique case study of an international negotiation process, negotiation strategies and conference dynamics. It is an indispensable guide for political scientists, policy makers, negotiators and all those interested in negotiation processes and the politics of climate change.

Book The Kyoto Protocol and Beyond

Download or read book The Kyoto Protocol and Beyond written by Wybe Th. Douma and published by T.M.C. Asser Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had the pleasure of participating at the two conferences which form the basis of this book: as a chairman at the 2007 The Hague Conference 'Tackling Climate Change - An appraisal of the Kyoto Protocol and options for the future' and as a speaker at the 2006 Siena Conference' The Kyoto Protocol and beyond: a legal perspective'. I would like to thank my colleagues Wybe Douma, Leonardo Massai and Massimiliano Montini for those opportunities, and although I was, unfortu nately, unable to contribute a paper to this book due to time constraints, I am glad to be able to say a few words on the issue by means of this foreword. The timing of the two conferences was well chosen: the period between the Siena Conference (June 2006) and The Hague Conference (March 2007) encapsu lated perfectly the period of the drafting, the presentation and the approval of the 'Integrated Energy and Climate Change Package', as presented by the European th Commission on the 10 of January 2007 and as approved by the Spring European th th Council of the 8 and 9 of March 2007. The importance of the Commission's package and the Council's conclusions must be strongly emphasized. They set, at the EU level, legally binding targets regarding the reduction of greenhouse gas of energy, and biofuels.
