Book The Arab Lobby and US Foreign Policy

Download or read book The Arab Lobby and US Foreign Policy written by Khalil Marrar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-10-27 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US foreign policy stance on Israel-Palestine has shifted considerably in recent years, from a position of "Israel only" to one which embraces both Israel and Palestine in a call for peace. This volume assesses why the US stance has evolved in the way that it has, concluding that while international factors cannot be overlooked, developments within the United States itself are also crucial. After years of vacillating on Palestinian national aspirations, the majority of Americans, the author notes, have come to favor the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the West Bank and the Gaza strip. Considering what accounts for changes in US policy on Israel-Palestine, this volume: delivers a thorough assessment of the role of international and domestic factors in shaping US policy in this area considers how US policy has evolved from the Camp David negotiations of the 1970s up to the occupation of Iraq in the mid 2000s explores the significance of American public opinion and the pro-Israel and Arab lobbies in the evolution of US policy The Arab Lobby and US Foreign Policy will be of interest to students and scholars of Foreign Policy and Political Science, Current Affairs and American Studies. Khalil M. Marrar is Professor at DePaul University, USA. He has served in editorial positions at the Arab Studies Quarterly and the Association of Arab-American University Graduates.

Book New Studies in the Manuscript Tradition of Nj ls saga

Download or read book New Studies in the Manuscript Tradition of Nj ls saga written by Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Njáls saga is the best known and most highly regarded of all medieval Icelandic sagas and it occupies a special place in Icelandic cultural history. The manuscript tradition is exceptionally rich and extensive. The oldest extant manuscripts date to only a couple of decades after the saga’s composition in the late 13th century and the saga was subsequently copied by hand continuously up until the 20th century, even alongside the circulation of printed text editions in latter centuries. The manuscript corpus as a whole has great socio-historical value, showcasing the myriad ways in which generations of Icelanders interpreted the saga and took an active part in its transmission; the manuscripts are also valuable sources for evidence of linguistic change and other phenomena. The essays in this volume present new research and a range of interdisciplinary perspectives on the Njáls saga manuscripts. Many of the authors took part in the international research project "The Variance of Njáls saga" which was funded by the Icelandic Research Council from 2011-2013.

Book LEADERSHIP GENETIC ENGINEERING FORMULA

Download or read book LEADERSHIP GENETIC ENGINEERING FORMULA written by AGOLA AUMA-OSOLO and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the omega of volume 1 titled Why Leaders Fail and Plunge the Innocent into a Sea of Agonies; hence, its justified designation as volume 2. Its purpose is to complete the marathon research expedition commenced by volume 1 (alfa) to search for the mysteries surrounding and being responsible for man's chronic failure in the art of leadership, which has consequently always plunged the innocent under a failed leader into a sea of various acute agonies throughout all generations. In this regard, this volume is an etiology and prognosis of leadership failure epidemic that has evaded recognition of every past research effort to unlock and paralyze those mysteries responsible for its existence. Using this double-edged methodology and burning ambition, the volume systematically and vigorously synthesizes the root causes of this virus into a coherent body of knowledge that has, in the end, led to formulation of a leadership genetic engineering formula viz: elite and grass root conflict vaccination, able to provide humanity with an enabling environment of a hybrid culture requisite for good governance, democracy, and prosperity for all. This formula is a function of the discovery of a similar formula formulated and used by the ancient Egyptian people (7000-5000 BC), which enabled them to develop into an extraordinary hybrid culture and good leadership that, in turn, led them into a nation of immense prosperity, surpassing all other nations of their generation in Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. Hence, the unique significance of the research efforts contained in this volume 2 in its capacity as a long-lived breakthrough for social sciences--and political science, in particular--against the scourge of bad leadership to humanity. And hence, its justification as an omega of this marathon research expedition.

Book excerpt: A travelogue and historical exploration of Mexico from one of the twentieth century’s greatest travel writers Dame Rebecca West travels through Mexico and explores its people, history, religion, and culture in her unfinished work Survivors in Mexico, carefully stitched together by Bernard Schweizer in this posthumously published edition. West tackles the country’s broad historical legacy—the Spanish conquest and Mexican revolution, the muralist movement, race relations, and contemporary life—and delves into the personal, intimate lives of key figures such as Hernán Cortés, Montezuma, Dr. Atl, Diego Rivera, and Leon Trotsky. Conceived as a companion to West’s masterful classic Black Lamb and Grey Falcon, this book showcases the complexity of West’s character, addresses the paradoxes inherent in her work, and allows for a mature understanding of her ideology. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Rebecca West featuring rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the Department of Special Collections and University Archives, McFarlin Library, at the University of Tulsa.
