Book excerpt: This book will take you through familiar life experiences. Back to that moment when you were at your lowest & no one was there. Through broken promises, lies, gossip, losses, etc. Just when you thought you had a grip on life, you were hit with another devastating blow. For every two steps forward, there were four taken back. Questioning God's plan. Asking yourself is it worth it. If only you could catch a break. Then you realize, the help you sought was there all along. In silence is when you can hear the loudest. The moment you take responsibility for everything in your life is when you can change anything in your life. Doing nothing to avoid making a mistake, is a mistake in itself. Be willing to lose connection with everything that creates noise in your life to regain & maintain your peace. Life is about change. However, growth is optional. Don't be the person that avoids it by saying, " that's just how I am". Everyday brings about another opportunity to do and be better. Embrace it!

Download or read book Number written by Greville G. Corbett and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-12-07 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Number is the most underestimated of the grammatical categories. It is deceptively simple yet the number system which philosophers, logicians and many linguists take as the norm - namely the distinction between singular and plural (as in cat versus cats) - is only one of a wide range of possibilities to be found in languages around the world. Some languages, for instance, make more distinctions than English, having three, four or even five different values. Adopting a wide-ranging perspective, Greville Corbett draws on examples from many languages to analyse the possible systems of number. He reveals that the means for signalling number are remarkably varied and are put to a surprising range of special additional uses. By surveying some of the riches of the world s linguistic resources this book makes a major contribution to the typology of categories and demonstrates that languages are much more varied than is generally recognised.

Book St Peter s Umbrella

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kálmán Mikszáth
  • Publisher : Good Press
  • Release : 2021-04-25
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book St Peter s Umbrella written by Kálmán Mikszáth and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-04-25 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. Peter's Umbrella is an 1895 novel by the Hungarian writer Kálmán Mikszáth. The story is set in the rural region to the north of Hungary, now Slovakia, where Mikszáth was born. This is the territory of the Palóc people, celebrated by Mikszáth in his writings, especially the short stories A Jó Palócok (translated as The Good People of Palocz). The characters in the story are small town middle class and the local peasantry. The novel is in five sections, the first establishing the legend of 'St Peter's umbrella'. The key character is the young priest, János Bélyi, who has just arrived in his first parish, Glogova, so poor that the living barely supports a priest. Within a couple of weeks, a neighbor from his home village appears. He brings news of the priest's widowed mother's death, and deposits on him his two-year-old sister. How, János wonders, can he care for his sister when the parish hardly provides enough for him? He goes to the church to seek guidance, leaving little Veronica asleep in her basket on the verandah. A sudden storm with torrential rain interrupts his prayers and he hurries back to the sleeping child, only to find her perfectly dry, her basket covered by a ragged red umbrella. The villagers, having seen an old Jew in the neighborhood, with the umbrella, decide that he closely resembles the picture of Saint Peter in their church: they are convinced that the saint has visited their village. The red umbrella becomes a miraculous object of veneration, its widespread fame bringing visitors and prosperity to the village, and to its priest.

Book The Counts of Tripoli and Lebanon in the Twelfth Century

Download or read book The Counts of Tripoli and Lebanon in the Twelfth Century written by Kevin James Lewis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The county of Tripoli in what is now North Lebanon is arguably the most neglected of the so-called ‘crusader states’ established in the Middle East at the beginning of the twelfth century. The present work is the first monograph on the county to be published in English, and the first in any western language since 1945. What little has been written on the subject previously has focused upon the European ancestry of the counts of Tripoli: a specifically Southern French heritage inherited from the famous crusader Raymond IV of Saint-Gilles. Kevin Lewis argues that past historians have at once exaggerated the political importance of the counts’ French descent and ignored the more compelling signs of its cultural impact, highlighting poetry composed by troubadours in Occitan at Tripoli’s court. For Lewis, however, even this belies a deeper understanding of the processes that shaped the county. What emerges is an intriguing portrait of the county in which its rulers struggled to exert their power over Lebanon in the face of this region’s insurmountable geographical forces and its sometimes bewildering, always beguiling diversity of religions, languages and cultures. The counts of Tripoli and contemporary Muslim onlookers certainly viewed the dynasty as sons of Saint-Gilles, but the county’s administration relied upon Arabic, its stability upon the mixed loyalties of its local inhabitants, and its very existence upon the rugged mountains that cradled it. This book challenges prevailing knowledge of this little-known crusader state and by extension the medieval Middle East as a whole. .
