Book Nostradamus 2014 Prediction Modeling and Analysis of Complex Systems

Download or read book Nostradamus 2014 Prediction Modeling and Analysis of Complex Systems written by Ivan Zelinka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-09 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prediction of behavior of complex systems, analysis and modeling of its structure is a vitally important problem in engineering, economy and generally in science today. Examples of such systems can be seen in the world around us (including our bodies) and of course in almost every scientific discipline including such “exotic” domains as the earth’s atmosphere, turbulent fluids, economics (exchange rate and stock markets), population growth, physics (control of plasma), information flow in social networks and its dynamics, chemistry and complex networks. To understand such complex dynamics, which often exhibit strange behavior, and to use it in research or industrial applications, it is paramount to create its models. For this purpose there exists a rich spectrum of methods, from classical such as ARMA models or Box Jenkins method to modern ones like evolutionary computation, neural networks, fuzzy logic, geometry, deterministic chaos amongst others. This proceedings book is a collection of accepted papers of the Nostradamus conference that has been held in Ostrava, Czech Republic in June 2014. This book also includes outstanding keynote lectures by distinguished guest speakers: René Lozi (France), Ponnuthurai Nagaratnam Suganthan (Singapore) and Lars Nolle (Germany). The main aim of the conference was to create a periodical possibility for students, academics and researchers to exchange their ideas and novel research methods. This conference establishes a forum for presentation and discussion of recent research trends in the area of applications of various predictive methods.

Book Evolutionary Algorithms Swarm Dynamics and Complex Networks

Download or read book Evolutionary Algorithms Swarm Dynamics and Complex Networks written by Ivan Zelinka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolutionary algorithms constitute a class of well-known algorithms, which are designed based on the Darwinian theory of evolution and Mendelian theory of heritage. They are partly based on random and partly based on deterministic principles. Due to this nature, it is challenging to predict and control its performance in solving complex nonlinear problems. Recently, the study of evolutionary dynamics is focused not only on the traditional investigations but also on the understanding and analyzing new principles, with the intention of controlling and utilizing their properties and performances toward more effective real-world applications. In this book, based on many years of intensive research of the authors, is proposing novel ideas about advancing evolutionary dynamics towards new phenomena including many new topics, even the dynamics of equivalent social networks. In fact, it includes more advanced complex networks and incorporates them with the CMLs (coupled map lattices), which are usually used for spatiotemporal complex systems simulation and analysis, based on the observation that chaos in CML can be controlled, so does evolution dynamics. All the chapter authors are, to the best of our knowledge, originators of the ideas mentioned above and researchers on evolutionary algorithms and chaotic dynamics as well as complex networks, who will provide benefits to the readers regarding modern scientific research on related subjects.

Book State Estimation and Stabilization of Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book State Estimation and Stabilization of Nonlinear Systems written by Abdellatif Ben Makhlouf and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-06 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the separation principle which is also known as the principle of separation of estimation and control and states that, under certain assumptions, the problem of designing an optimal feedback controller for a stochastic system can be solved by designing an optimal observer for the system's state, which feeds into an optimal deterministic controller for the system. Thus, the problem may be divided into two halves, which simplifies its design. In the context of deterministic linear systems, the first instance of this principle is that if a stable observer and stable state feedback are built for a linear time-invariant system (LTI system hereafter), then the combined observer and feedback are stable. The separation principle does not true for nonlinear systems in general. Another instance of the separation principle occurs in the context of linear stochastic systems, namely that an optimum state feedback controller intended to minimize a quadratic cost is optimal for the stochastic control problem with output measurements. The ideal solution consists of a Kalman filter and a linear-quadratic regulator when both process and observation noise are Gaussian. The term for this is linear-quadratic-Gaussian control. More generally, given acceptable conditions and when the noise is a martingale (with potential leaps), a separation principle, also known as the separation principle in stochastic control, applies when the noise is a martingale (with possible jumps).

Book High Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications

Download or read book High Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications written by Joanna Kołodziej and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-25 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book was prepared as a Final Publication of the COST Action IC1406 “High-Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications (cHiPSet)“ project. Long considered important pillars of the scientific method, Modelling and Simulation have evolved from traditional discrete numerical methods to complex data-intensive continuous analytical optimisations. Resolution, scale, and accuracy have become essential to predict and analyse natural and complex systems in science and engineering. When their level of abstraction raises to have a better discernment of the domain at hand, their representation gets increasingly demanding for computational and data resources. On the other hand, High Performance Computing typically entails the effective use of parallel and distributed processing units coupled with efficient storage, communication and visualisation systems to underpin complex data-intensive applications in distinct scientific and technical domains. It is then arguably required to have a seamless interaction of High Performance Computing with Modelling and Simulation in order to store, compute, analyse, and visualise large data sets in science and engineering. Funded by the European Commission, cHiPSet has provided a dynamic trans-European forum for their members and distinguished guests to openly discuss novel perspectives and topics of interests for these two communities. This cHiPSet compendium presents a set of selected case studies related to healthcare, biological data, computational advertising, multimedia, finance, bioinformatics, and telecommunications.

The respective papers highlight a wealth of issues in, and applications of, data science. Modern technologies allow us to store and transfer large amounts of data quickly. They can be very diverse - images, numbers, streaming, related to human behavior and physiological parameters, etc. Whether the data is just raw numbers, crude images, or will help solve current problems and predict future developments, depends on whether we can effectively process and analyze it. Data science is evolving rapidly. However, it is still a very young field. In particular, data science is concerned with visualizations, statistics, pattern recognition, neurocomputing, image analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, databases and data processing, data mining, big data analytics, and knowledge discovery in databases. It also has many interfaces with optimization, block chaining, cyber-social and cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things (IoT), social computing, high-performance computing, in-memory key-value stores, cloud computing, social computing, data feeds, overlay networks, cognitive computing, crowdsource analysis, log analysis, container-based virtualization, and lifetime value modeling. Again, all of these areas are highly interrelated. In addition, data science is now expanding to new fields of application: chemical engineering, biotechnology, building energy management, materials microscopy, geographic research, learning analytics, radiology, metal design, ecosystem homeostasis investigation, and many others.
