Book excerpt: The highly anticipated conclusion to the Something in the Way series, a forbidden love saga. Lake It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. If I'd known then what I do now, would I have kept on walking? Manning was older, darker, experienced-and I'd trusted him when he said the story would only ever be about us. I'd held those words close and challenged fate, but I had lost. A part of me is still that sixteen-year-old girl squinting up at Manning, but no matter how far I fall or high I soar, I'll always be a bird without her bear and nothing without him. Manning When I close my eyes, I can no longer see her. The decisions I made were to push Lake in the right direction-away from me. But now that she's gone, would I have made those same choices? I'd walked away like I was supposed to. I'd kept my distance. I'd bent over backward to keep Lake pure, but she's no longer that girl, and I don't know if I can stay away anymore. I only know I don't want to. She's still everything I want and nothing I should ever have, but if anyone can move the stars, it's her great bear in the sky.

This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER From the cofounder of a $40 billion software company comes an invaluable guide packed with $1 trillion worth of advice from some of the world’s most successful and recognizable entrepreneurs. Over the past 20 years, first as an early employee at Salesforce and later as a cofounder of Okta (a publicly traded software company now valued at over $40 billion), Frederic Kerrest has met the most successful entrepreneurs and investors in Silicon Valley and beyond. He’s discussed every angle of entrepreneurship with them—what works, what doesn’t, and what to do when things get rough—and he’s taken notes. The result is this unmatched blueprint for building and growing a business, drawn from his own experience as well as that of his fellow visionaries and business leaders, who have collectively built over $1 trillion worth of wealth for themselves and their investors. They include Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz (Andreessen Horowitz), Eric Yuan (Zoom), Stewart Butterfield (Slack), Aneel Bhusri (Workday), Julia Hartz (Eventbrite), Aaron Levie (Box), Fred Luddy (ServiceNow), Melanie Perkins (Canva), Patty McCord (Netflix), Sebastian Thrun (Udacity), and dozens of other luminaries. These ideas and practices aren’t taught in business schools. They’ve been learned the hard way, through trial and error in the real world of business. Kerrest has battle-tested them himself, so he knows their power. Organized by topic in roughly the order that leaders will encounter them as they scale their businesses, this book is the ultimate guide to taking a company all the way from founding to IPO—and beyond.
Download or read book 10 Happier written by Dan Harris and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller REVISED WITH NEW MATIERAL Winner of the 2014 Living Now Book Award for Inspirational Memoir "An enormously smart, clear-eyed, brave-hearted, and quite personal look at the benefits of meditation." —Elizabeth Gilbert Nightline anchor Dan Harrisembarks on an unexpected, hilarious, and deeply skeptical odyssey through the strange worlds of spirituality and self-help, and discovers a way to get happier that is truly achievable. After having a nationally televised panic attack, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had propelled him through the ranks of a hypercompetitive business, but had also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out. Finally, Harris stumbled upon an effective way to rein in that voice, something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation, a tool that research suggests can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain. 10% Happier takes readers on a ride from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news to the bizarre fringes of America’s spiritual scene, and leaves them with a takeaway that could actually change their lives.

Download or read book For When Everything Is Burning written by Scott Eilers Psyd and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-26 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This one is a little different. If you feel like the world forgot to prepare a spot for you, this is for you. If you feel like you were born into the wrong timeline, the wrong culture, or on the wrong planet, this is for you. If you've ever found yourself questioning your humanity and wondering if you are "something else," this is for you. If you feel like your life has been an endless quest for something you haven't found, this is for you. If you feel more aware of the pain, the suffering, the darkness, and the brokenness of the world, this is for you. If you relate to these words, please know that I see you. That you aren't anywhere near as alone as you feel. That there are others like you. Your pain is real and valid, even if nobody around you understands it. You don't have to hide anymore. You don't have to keep wearing that brave face for everyone else's benefit, even when it feels like you're drowning inside. You can face the darkness head-on, and I can teach you how. First, we have to identify the lies the world tells you and how to stop listening to them. There are six of them in particular that we hear over and over again: -Everything is your fault -You can't change anything -You're missing something -What feels true is true -You're not trying hard enough -You aren't ready Most people believe and align with these lies. You don't have to. If you learn how to recognize them and speak truth to them over and over again, they start to quiet down. This lets you be you again, instead of what the world tries to make you into. Second, we have to look at the automatic and subconscious choices your mind makes throughout your day. Most of your life is lived automatically based on programs and algorithms that are pre-loaded for you. You can change most of them. You can use neurological chainsaws to cut through the habits and routines, to reshape your mental processes into whatever you want them to be. This work is a blend of psychology, neuroscience, and memoirs. Scattered in between the strategies and concepts are paired journal entries. Passages written by someone in their darkest hour, someone who resents the fact that they were forced to exist, and responses written by someone who has conquered their darkest hour and knows the way out. These passages add a personal, intimate, and raw touch for the reader. This book is for those whose needs run deeper. For people whose problems cannot be solved with a lavish vacation and regular spa days. For people more in need of a renovation than a remodeling. If that sounds like you, then this work is for you.
