Download or read book NORTHLAND HEROES The Illustrated Sagas of Frithiof and Beowulf in an easy to read format for young people written by Anon E. Mouse and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2018-09-25 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This illustrated volume contains two Viking, or Norse, sagas rewritten especially for older children and young adults presented in an easy-to-read novella format. Herein are the stories of Frithiof and the epic Beowulf. These stories are from a time when men were knighted for achieving great feats, and great their feats were. A time when the successful application of brain and brawn gained a man a high standing in his community and possibly even higher office in the land. The first retelling, "The Story of Frithiof" is based upon Holcomb's translation of Bishop Tegnér's poem, "The Saga of Frithiof" which charts Frithiof’s and Ingeborg’s undying love for each other and the lengths Frithiof had to go to, to eventually win her hand. If ever a story was to teach the young about perseverance and endurance, this is it. The second retelling, that of the epic Beowulf, has also been rewritten in an easy reading novella format. It follows the life of Beowulf, his rites of passage and his maturing from boy to man through facing and overcoming adversity and evil through facing up to and defeating the evil dragon Grendel. This fictional saga was written in England, but is set in Scandinavia. It has variously been dated to between the 8th and the early 11th centuries. It is our hope the records of these lives nobly lived are an inspiration to noble living in today’s youth. With the hope that the courage, truth, endurance, reverence, and patriotism shown by these heroes of the Northland will arouse interest and result in emulation. 10% of the publisher’s profit from the sale from this book will be donated to Charities. ============= KEYWORDS: folklore, fairy, Tales, children, stories, bedtime, fables, illustrated, myths, legends, Frithjof, Ingeborg, king, death, expulsion, banishment, Ingeborg, daughter, Halfdan, Helgi, Ring, Baldrshagi, marry, Hilding, tribute, Baldr, balder, Beli, Sogn, Ringerike, Ring, foster-brother, foster-father, tradition, Víkingsson, perseverance, courage, truth, endurance, reverence, patriotism, Beowulf, Hrothgar, Grendel, dragon, mother, evil, Heorot, battle, sword, warriors, lair, attack, Wiglaf, hall, funeral, Geatsland, hero, celebrate, mortally wounded, Earnanæs, treasure, Hrunting, monster, wounded, Unferth, barrow, burial, night, lake, sea, boat, longship, grief-stricken, fire-breathing, violent, brotherhood, protagonist, revenge, terrorized, terrorise,

Here, John Halsted, author and folklorist, has compiled “The Third Book of Dragons” from numerous sources. In this book you will find 12 illustrated tales of dragons and serpents drawn from the mists of time. Some are friendly dragons which provide wisdom and direction to the heroes of our stories. Others are downright wicked, oozing malice and evil, leaving the hero of the story no option but to destroy the spiteful, fire-breathing, beast. Our heroes always sally forth wilfully, but cautiously, engaging these ancient creatures to save a damsel in distress, or their families, from sure destruction and banishment to oblivion. Book excerpt: For centuries the songs of Homer, the blind poet of Greece, recounting the heroic deeds of the great Hector and lion-hearted Achilles, have delighted the children, young and old, of many lands. But part of our own heritage, and nearer to us in race and time, are these stories of Beowulf and Frithiof (Fridtjhof). The records of lives nobly lived are an inspiration to noble living. With the hope that the courage, truth, endurance, reverence, and patriotism shown by these heroes of the Northland will arouse interest and emulation. This little book is offered to our young adults and children. "The Story of Frithiof" is based upon Holcomb's translation of Bishop Tegner's poem, "The Saga of Frithiof" which charts Frithiof's and Ingeborg's undying love for each other and the lengths Frithiof had to go to, to eventually win her hand. If ever a story was to teach the young about perseverance and endurance, this is it. The epic Beowulf was written in England, but is set in Scandinavia. It has variously been dated to between the 8th and the early 11th centuries. The original is an epic poem told in historical perspective; a story of epic events and of great people of a heroic past. It follows the life of Beowulf, his rites of passage and his maturing from boy to man through facing and overcoming adversity and evil. This was the time when men were knighted for achieving great feats, and great their feats were. Book THE SAGA OF BEOWULF retold as a story for Young Adults

This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EASY READING edition of the epic 3,182 line poem especially retold for children and young adults by Strafford Riggs. If you ever just wanted to know the story of Beowulf without having to plough through the 3,182 lines of the epic poem, then this book is for you, because here it has been retold in the form of an easy reading novel aimed at children and young people. Set in the time when men were knighted for achieving great feats, and great the feats of Beowulf were. Dismissed by the King’s Earls as clumsy, lazy and a sluggard, he was also shunned by his peers for his strength and prowess with the sword and spear. On hearing of the monster Grendel, he announced his intention to sail for the Daneland to prove his worth and prove his accusers wrong. And this he did, killing not only the monster Grendel but also its evil monster-mother. On his return home he was proclaimed the greatest hero of the North by the very same who condemned him. In time he becomes king of Geatsland and an extended period of prosperity follows, ended only by a flame-breathing, steam belching dragon. Once again our hero sallies forth. Once again the dragon is defeated, but this time so is our hero. The Saga of Beowulf was written in Olde England, but set in Scandinavia. It has variously been dated to between the 8th and the early 11th centuries. In its original form it is an epic poem told in historical perspective; a story of epic events and of great people of a heroic past. 33% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to Charities. Book Stories of Beowulf Told to the Children

Download or read book Stories of Beowulf Told to the Children written by H. E. Marshall and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2017-09-14 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally written for a younger audience, this wonderful retelling of the Old English heroic epic poem Beowulf by master storyteller H.E. Marshall is one of the best introductions to this fine work of classic European mythology. It is without question one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature. Set in Scandinavia, this epic tells the story of Beowulf, a hero of the Geats in Scandinavia, who comes to help Hroogar, the king of the Danes, whose mead hall is under attack by a monster known as Grendel. Beowulf slays Grendel, but the monster's mother then also attacks the mead hall in revenge. After another great battle, Beowulf defeats the second monster, and returns home in great glory and becomes king of the Geats. Later in his reign, Beowulf is called upon to battle a dragon. Although he defeats the beast, he is fatally wounded in the struggle, and dies. His people bury the great king in a burial mound in Geatland, and his name passes into legend. H.E. Marshall's clear and concise style make her works easy reading not just for young people, but for all ages, and her books have stood the test of time to become great classics. Her version of Beowulf is no exception.
