Book The Economics of the Noosphere

Download or read book The Economics of the Noosphere written by Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr. and published by Executive Intelligence Review. This book was released on 2015-09-03 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "American Economist Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr., has been right in his long-range economic and related forecasts--in contrast to virtually all other economists and political leaders, who have been simply wrong. This fact has not gone unnoticed. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and a growing chorus of nations are putting more and more of the ideas in this book into action. The time has come when all economists and political thinkers who want to remain relevant to unfolding world realities, will now wish to go much more deeply into the work of LaRouche, than simply his now-vindicated forecasts as such. They will wish to acquaint themselves with, for example, the scientific concepts of biogeochemist Vladimir Vernadsky--the initiator of the idea of the biosphere--whose concept of the "noosphere" has been used and enhanced by LaRouche."

Book The Great Anglo Celtic Divide in the History of American Foreign Relations

Download or read book The Great Anglo Celtic Divide in the History of American Foreign Relations written by Thomas A. Breslin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-10-05 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Positing that presidents shape America's foreign policy according to their ethnic heritage, this intriguing volume examines two groups that have dominated the presidency and the distinctly different agendas that have resulted. How is American foreign policy determined? The Great Anglo-Celtic Divide in the History of American Foreign Relations approaches that question from a fascinating perspective, arguing that, to a large extent, the answer lies in the ethnicity of the president. To make its point, this book examines the key foreign policies of American presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush and shows how their most important foreign policy decisions have tended to follow an ethnic pattern. The presidency has been dominated by Americans from English or Celtic backgrounds since the nation's founding, and as readers will discover, the foreign policies of the two groups have been very different. To document those differences, this book analyzes seven alternating periods of political domination by Anglo-Americans and Celtic-Americans, demonstrating how the cycle of change affected the shape and distinguishing characteristics of U.S. foreign policy in matters of war and peace and in relations with other countries.

Download or read book Academia s Golden Age written by Richard M. Freeland and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1992-04-23 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the evolution of American universities during the years following World War II. Emphasizing the importance of change at the campus level, the book combines a general consideration of national trends with a close study of eight diverse universities in Massachusetts. The eight are Harvard, M.I.T., Tufts, Brandeis, Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern and the University of Massachusetts. Broad analytic chapters examine major developments like expansion, the rise of graduate education and research, the professionalization of the faculty, and the decline of general education. These chapters also review criticisms of academia that arose in the late 1960s and the fate of various reform proposals during the 1970s. Additional chapters focus on the eight campuses to illustrate the forces that drove different kinds of institutions--research universities, college-centered universities, urban private universities and public universities--in responding to the circumstances of the postwar years.

Book Women Method Acting and the Hollywood Film

Download or read book Women Method Acting and the Hollywood Film written by Keri Walsh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-26 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women, Method Acting, and the Hollywood Film is the first study dedicated to understanding the work of female Method actors on film. While Method acting on film has typically been associated with the explosive machismo of actors like Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro, this book explores an alternate tradition within the Method—the work that women from the Actors Studio did in Hollywood. Covering the period from the end of the Second World War until the 1970s, this study shows how the women associated with the Actors Studio increasingly used Method acting in ways that were compatible with their burgeoning feminist political commitments and developed a style of feminist Method acting. The book examines the complex intersection of Method acting, sexuality, and gender by analyzing performances such as Kim Hunter’s in A Streetcar Named Desire, Julie Harris’s in The Member of the Wedding, Shelley Winters’s in The Big Knife, Geraldine Page’s in Sweet Bird of Youth, and Jane Fonda’s in Coming Home. Challenging the longstanding assumption that Method acting’s approaches were harmful to women and incompatible with feminism, this book argues that some of Hollywood’s most interesting female actors, and leading feminists, emerged from the Actors Studio in the period between the 1950s and the 1970s. Written for students and scholars of Film Studies, Cultural Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies, and Gender Studies, Women, Method Acting, and the Hollywood Film reshapes the way we think of a central strain in American screen acting, and in doing so, allows women a new stake in that tradition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Home Front Battles examines the many effects of World War II economic and military mobilization on the Deep South. It also underscores one of the primary home front battles, which began with the passage of the Selective Training and Service Act in 1940 and the creation of the Fair Employment Practices Committee in 1941, banning discriminatory military training and employment practices and making it clear that the federal government would be promoting the ideal of nondiscrimination as part of its wartime mobilization efforts. In the Deep South, where race relations were already tense, these directives and southern tradition clashed.

Book Modern Chinese Warfare 1795 1989

Download or read book Modern Chinese Warfare 1795 1989 written by Bruce A. Elleman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-07-28 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why did the Chinese empire collapse and why did it take so long for a new government to reunite China? Modern Chinese Warfare, 1795-1989 seeks to answer these questions by exploring the most important domestic and international conflicts over the past two hundred years, from the last half of the Qing empire through to modern day China. It reveals how most of China's wars during this period were fought to preserve unity in China, and examines their distinctly cyclical pattern of imperial decline, domestic chaos and finally the creation of a new unifying dynasty. By 1989 this cycle appeared complete, but the author asks how long this government will be able to hold power. Exposing China as an imperialist country, and one which has often manipulated western powers in its favour, Bruce Elleman seeks to redress the views of China as a victimised nation.
