Book Nonsymmetric Operads in Combinatorics

Download or read book Nonsymmetric Operads in Combinatorics written by Samuele Giraudo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-04 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operads are algebraic devices offering a formalization of the concept of operations with several inputs and one output. Such operations can be naturally composed to form more complex ones. Coming historically from algebraic topology, operads intervene now as important objects in computer science and in combinatorics. A lot of operads involving combinatorial objects highlight some of their properties and allow to discover new ones. This book portrays the main elements of this theory under a combinatorial point of view and exposes the links it maintains with computer science and combinatorics. Examples of operads appearing in combinatorics are studied. The modern treatment of operads consisting in considering the space of formal power series associated with an operad is developed. Enrichments of nonsymmetric operads as colored, cyclic, and symmetric operads are reviewed.

Book Set Operads in Combinatorics and Computer Science

Download or read book Set Operads in Combinatorics and Computer Science written by Miguel A. Méndez and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-08 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph has two main objectives. The first one is to give a self-contained exposition of the relevant facts about set operads, in the context of combinatorial species and its operations. This approach has various advantages: one of them is that the definition of combinatorial operations on species, product, sum, substitution and derivative, are simple and natural. They were designed as the set theoretical counterparts of the homonym operations on exponential generating functions, giving an immediate insight on the combinatorial meaning of them. The second objective is more ambitious. Before formulating it, authors present a brief historic account on the sources of decomposition theory. For more than forty years decompositions of discrete structures have been studied in different branches of discrete mathematics: combinatorial optimization, network and graph theory, switching design or boolean functions, simple multi-person games and clutters, etc.

Download or read book Algebraic Operads written by Jean-Louis Loday and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-08 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many areas of mathematics some “higher operations” are arising. These havebecome so important that several research projects refer to such expressions. Higher operationsform new types of algebras. The key to understanding and comparing them, to creating invariants of their action is operad theory. This is a point of view that is 40 years old in algebraic topology, but the new trend is its appearance in several other areas, such as algebraic geometry, mathematical physics, differential geometry, and combinatorics. The present volume is the first comprehensive and systematic approach to algebraic operads. An operad is an algebraic device that serves to study all kinds of algebras (associative, commutative, Lie, Poisson, A-infinity, etc.) from a conceptual point of view. The book presents this topic with an emphasis on Koszul duality theory. After a modern treatment of Koszul duality for associative algebras, the theory is extended to operads. Applications to homotopy algebra are given, for instance the Homotopy Transfer Theorem. Although the necessary notions of algebra are recalled, readers are expected to be familiar with elementary homological algebra. Each chapter ends with a helpful summary and exercises. A full chapter is devoted to examples, and numerous figures are included. After a low-level chapter on Algebra, accessible to (advanced) undergraduate students, the level increases gradually through the book. However, the authors have done their best to make it suitable for graduate students: three appendices review the basic results needed in order to understand the various chapters. Since higher algebra is becoming essential in several research areas like deformation theory, algebraic geometry, representation theory, differential geometry, algebraic combinatorics, and mathematical physics, the book can also be used as a reference work by researchers.

Book On Operads Bimodules and Analytic Functor

Download or read book On Operads Bimodules and Analytic Functor written by Nicola Gambino and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors develop further the theory of operads and analytic functors. In particular, they introduce the bicategory of operad bimodules, that has operads as -cells, operad bimodules as -cells and operad bimodule maps as 2-cells, and prove that it is cartesian closed. In order to obtain this result, the authors extend the theory of distributors and the formal theory of monads.

Book Dialgebras and Related Operads

Download or read book Dialgebras and Related Operads written by J.-L. Loday and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main object of study of these four papers is the notion of associative dialgebras which are algebras equipped with two associative operations satisfying some more relations of the associative type. This notion is studied from a) the homological point of view: construction of the (co)homology theory with trivial coefficients and general coefficients, b) the operadic point of view: determination of the dual operad, that is the dendriform dialgebras which are strongly related with the planar binary trees, c) the algebraic point of view: Hopf structure and Milnor-Moore type theorem.

Book Monoidal Functors Species and Hopf Algebras

Download or read book Monoidal Functors Species and Hopf Algebras written by Marcelo Aguiar and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph integrates ideas from category theory, algebra and combinatorics. It is organized in three parts. Part I belongs to the realm of category theory. It reviews some of the foundational work of Benabou, Eilenberg, Kelly and Mac Lane on monoidal categories and of Joyal and Street on braided monoidal categories, and proceeds to study higher monoidal categories and higher monoidal functors. Special attention is devoted to the notion of a bilax monoidal functor which plays a central role in this work. Combinatorics and geometry are the theme of Part II. Joyal's species constitute a good framework for the study of algebraic structures associated to combinatorial objects. This part discusses the category of species focusing particularly on the Hopf monoids therein. The notion of a Hopf monoid in species parallels that of a Hopf algebra and reflects the manner in which combinatorial structures compose and decompose. Numerous examples of Hopf monoids are given in the text. These are constructed from combinatorial and geometric data and inspired by ideas of Rota and Tits' theory of Coxeter complexes. Part III is of an algebraic nature and shows how ideas in Parts I and II lead to a unified approach to Hopf algebras. The main step is the construction of Fock functors from species to graded vector spaces. These functors are bilax monoidal and thus translate Hopf monoids in species to graded Hopf algebras. This functorial construction of Hopf algebras encompasses both quantum groups and the Hopf algebras of recent prominence in the combinatorics literature. The monograph opens a vast new area of research. It is written with clarity and sufficient detail to make it accessible to advanced graduate students.

Book Classical Hopf Algebras and Their Applications

Download or read book Classical Hopf Algebras and Their Applications written by Pierre Cartier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-20 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to the structure and combinatorics of classical Hopf algebras. Its main focus is on commutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras, such as algebras of representative functions on groups and enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, as explored in the works of Borel, Cartier, Hopf and others in the 1940s and 50s. The modern and systematic treatment uses the approach of natural operations, illuminating the structure of Hopf algebras by means of their endomorphisms and their combinatorics. Emphasizing notions such as pseudo-coproducts, characteristic endomorphisms, descent algebras and Lie idempotents, the text also covers the important case of enveloping algebras of pre-Lie algebras. A wide range of applications are surveyed, highlighting the main ideas and fundamental results. Suitable as a textbook for masters or doctoral level programs, this book will be of interest to algebraists and anyone working in one of the fields of application of Hopf algebras.

Book Laplacian Eigenvectors of Graphs

Download or read book Laplacian Eigenvectors of Graphs written by Türker Biyikoglu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-07-07 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating volume investigates the structure of eigenvectors and looks at the number of their sign graphs ("nodal domains"), Perron components, and graphs with extremal properties with respect to eigenvectors. The Rayleigh quotient and rearrangement of graphs form the main methodology. Eigenvectors of graph Laplacians may seem a surprising topic for a book, but the authors show that there are subtle differences between the properties of solutions of Schrödinger equations on manifolds on the one hand, and their discrete analogs on graphs.
