Book Nonlinear Oscillations of Mechanical Systems Under Multifrequency Parametric Excitation

Download or read book Nonlinear Oscillations of Mechanical Systems Under Multifrequency Parametric Excitation written by Raymond H. Plaut and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various problems related to the nonlinear oscillations of mechanical and structural systems were investigated. They involved the following topics: (1) Resonances in weakly nonlinear systems subjected to multifrequency parametric and/or external excitation, with one case being a self-excited system; (2) Dynamic behavior of cracked bars and rotating shafts, for the purpose of detecting cracks; (3) Vibrations of cylindrical membranes, with applications to inflatable dams; (4) Vibrations and stability of structures whose support resistance changes as the structure is loaded: (5) Dynamic instability of laminated composite plates under in-plane harmonically-varying loads; (6) Application of vibration data to nondestructively predict buckling loads; (7) Nonlinear oscillations of slender cantilevered beams under harmonically-varying loads; and (8) Prediction of a large jump in deflection, such as snap-through instability, under harmonically-varying loads. The results improve our understanding of the dynamics of mechanical and structural systems, and will be useful in the prevention of excessively large motions and unstable behavior.

Book Nonlinear Oscillations in Mechanical Engineering

Download or read book Nonlinear Oscillations in Mechanical Engineering written by Alexander Fidlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-19 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nonlinear Oscillations in Mechanical Engineering" explores the effects of nonlinearities encountered in applications in that field. Since the nonlinearities are caused, first of all, by contacts between different mechanical parts, the main part of this book is devoted to oscillations in mechanical systems with discontinuities caused by dry friction and collisions. Another important source of nonlinearity which is covered is that caused by rotating unbalanced parts common in various machines as well as variable inertias occurring in all kinds of crank mechanisms. This book is written for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, but it may be also helpful and interesting for both theoreticians and practitioners working in the area of mechanical engineering at universities, in research labs or institutes and especially in the R and D departments within industrial firms.

Book Multifrequency Oscillations of Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book Multifrequency Oscillations of Nonlinear Systems written by Anatolii M. Samoilenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contrast to other books devoted to the averaging method and the method of integral manifolds, in the present book we study oscillation systems with many varying frequencies. In the process of evolution, systems of this type can pass from one resonance state into another. This fact considerably complicates the investigation of nonlinear oscillations. In the present monograph, a new approach based on exact uniform estimates of oscillation integrals is proposed. On the basis of this approach, numerous completely new results on the justification of the averaging method and its applications are obtained and the integral manifolds of resonance oscillation systems are studied. This book is intended for a wide circle of research workers, experts, and engineers interested in oscillation processes, as well as for students and post-graduate students specialized in ordinary differential equations.

Book Dynamics of Mechanical Systems with Non Ideal Excitation

Download or read book Dynamics of Mechanical Systems with Non Ideal Excitation written by Livija Cveticanin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the dynamics of the non-ideal oscillatory system, in which the excitation is influenced by the response of the oscillator, is presented. Linear and nonlinear oscillators with one or more degrees of freedom interacting with one or more energy sources are treated. This concerns for example oscillating systems excited by a deformed elastic connection, systems excited by an unbalanced rotating mass, systems of parametrically excited oscillator and an energy source, frictionally self-excited oscillator and an energy source, energy harvesting system, portal frame – non-ideal source system, non-ideal rotor system, planar mechanism – non-ideal source interaction. For the systems the regular and irregular motions are tested. The effect of self-synchronization, chaos and methods for suppressing chaos in non-ideal systems are considered. In the book various types of motion control are suggested. The most important property of the non-ideal system connected with the jump-like transition from a resonant state to a non-resonant one is discussed. The so called ‘Sommerfeld effect’, resonant unstable state and jumping of the system into a new stable state of motion above the resonant region is explained. A mathematical model of the system is solved analytically and numerically. Approximate analytical solving procedures are developed. Besides, simulation of the motion of the non-ideal system is presented. The obtained results are compared with those for the ideal case. A significant difference is evident. The book aims to present the established results and to expand the literature in non-ideal vibrating systems. A further intention of the book is to give predictions of the effects for a system where the interaction between an oscillator and the energy source exist. The book is targeted at engineers and technicians dealing with the problem of source-machine system, but is also written for PhD students and researchers interested in non-linear and non-ideal problems.

Book The Mechanics of Nonlinear Systems with Internal Resonances

Download or read book The Mechanics of Nonlinear Systems with Internal Resonances written by Arkadiy I. Manevich and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important features of nonlinear systems with several degrees of freedom is the presence of internal resonances at certain relations between natural frequencies of different modes. This monograph is the first book devoted predominantly to internal resonances in different mechanical systems including those of practical importance. The main purpose is to consider the internal resonances from the general point of view and to elucidate their role in applied nonlinear dynamics by using an efficient approach based on introducing the complex representation of equations of motion (together with the multiple scale method). Considered here are autonomous and nonautonomous discrete two-degree-of-freedom systems, infinite chains of particles, and continuous systems, including circular rings and cylindrical shells. Specific attention is paid to the case of one-to-one internal resonance in systems with cubic nonlinearities. Steady-state and nonstationary regimes of motion, interaction of the internal and external resonances at forced oscillations, and bifurcations of steady-state modes and their stability are systematically studied.

Book The Behaviour of Nonlinear Vibrating Systems

Download or read book The Behaviour of Nonlinear Vibrating Systems written by Wanda Szemplinska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-06-30 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide students, practicing engineers and scientists with a treatment of nonlinear phenomena occurring in physical systems. Although only mechanical models are used, the theory applies to all physical systems governed by the same equations, so that the book can be used to study nonlinear phenomena in other branches of engineering, such as electrical engineering and aerospace engineering, as well as in physics. The book consists of two volumes. Volume I is concerned with single degree-of-freedom systems and it presents the fundamental concepts of nonlinear analysis. Both analytical methods and computer simulations are included. The material is presented in such a manner that the book can be used as a graduate as well as an undergraduate textbook. Volume II deals with multi-degree-of-freedom systems. Following an introduc tion to linear systems, the volume presents fundamental concepts of geometric theory and stability of motion of general nonlinear systems, as well as a concise discussion of basic approximate methods for the response of such systems. The material represents a generalization of a series of papers on the vibration of nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom systems, some of which were published by me and my associates during the period 1965 - 1983 and some are not yet published.

Book Theoretical and Experimental Studies in Nonlinear Mechanical Systems Under Harmonic and Stochastic Excitation

Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Studies in Nonlinear Mechanical Systems Under Harmonic and Stochastic Excitation written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stability and bifurcation behavior of mechanical systems parametrically excited by small periodic or stochastic perturbations is studied. The almost-sure stability is defined by the sign of the maximal Lyapunov exponent, the exponential growth rate of solutions to a linear stochastic system. A perturbative approach is employed to construct an asymptotic expansion for the maximal Lyapunov exponent of a four-dimensional gyroscopic dynamical system driven by a small intensity real noise. The perturbative technique developed is then applied to study the lateral vibration instability in rotating shafts subject to stochastic axial loads and stationary shafts in cross flow with randomly varying flow velocity. The local and global bifurcation behavior of nonlinear deterministic gyroscopic and conservative systems subject to periodic parametric excitation is also examined. Throughout this work, it is assumed that the dissipation, imperfections and amplitudes of parametric excitations are small. In this way, it is possible to treat these problems as weakly Hamiltonian systems. Most of the analysis presented here is based on the recent work of perturbed Hamiltonian systems. (P.T.O.).

Book Applied Asymptotic Methods in Nonlinear Oscillations

Download or read book Applied Asymptotic Methods in Nonlinear Oscillations written by Yuri A. Mitropolsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many dynamical systems are described by differential equations that can be separated into one part, containing linear terms with constant coefficients, and a second part, relatively small compared with the first, containing nonlinear terms. Such a system is said to be weakly nonlinear. The small terms rendering the system nonlinear are referred to as perturbations. A weakly nonlinear system is called quasi-linear and is governed by quasi-linear differential equations. We will be interested in systems that reduce to harmonic oscillators in the absence of perturbations. This book is devoted primarily to applied asymptotic methods in nonlinear oscillations which are associated with the names of N. M. Krylov, N. N. Bogoli ubov and Yu. A. Mitropolskii. The advantages of the present methods are their simplicity, especially for computing higher approximations, and their applicability to a large class of quasi-linear problems. In this book, we confine ourselves basi cally to the scheme proposed by Krylov, Bogoliubov as stated in the monographs [6,211. We use these methods, and also develop and improve them for solving new problems and new classes of nonlinear differential equations. Although these methods have many applications in Mechanics, Physics and Technique, we will illustrate them only with examples which clearly show their strength and which are themselves of great interest. A certain amount of more advanced material has also been included, making the book suitable for a senior elective or a beginning graduate course on nonlinear oscillations.
