Book From Hyperbolic Systems to Kinetic Theory

Download or read book From Hyperbolic Systems to Kinetic Theory written by Luc Tartar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-26 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating book, penned by Luc Tartar of America’s Carnegie Mellon University, starts from the premise that equations of state are not always effective in continuum mechanics. Tartar relies on H-measures, a tool created for homogenization, to explain some of the weaknesses in the theory. These include looking at the subject from the point of view of quantum mechanics. Here, there are no "particles", so the Boltzmann equation and the second principle, can’t apply.

Book Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws

Download or read book Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws written by Philippe G. LeFloch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-07-01 with total page 1010 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the well-posedness theory for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, recently completed by the author together with his collaborators. It covers the existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence of classical entropy solutions. It also introduces the reader to the developing theory of nonclassical (undercompressive) entropy solutions. The systems of partial differential equations under consideration arise in many areas of continuum physics.

Book Microscopic Theory of Condensation in Gases and Plasma

Download or read book Microscopic Theory of Condensation in Gases and Plasma written by A L Itkin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-06-16 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes results on the creation of a new theory of condensation which has an impact on consideration of some microscopic effects left aside in the usual nucleation theories. In particular, the main idea of the authors' microscopic condensation theory is that it considers the violation of the equilibrium cluster distribution over the internal degrees of freedom due to co-occurring condensation and decay reactions of the clusters. Book Singularly Perturbed Evolution Equations with Applications to Kinetic Theory

Download or read book Singularly Perturbed Evolution Equations with Applications to Kinetic Theory written by J. R. Mika and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there appeared a large number of papers as well as chapters in more general monographs devoted to evolution equations containing small (or large) parameters. In this book it is intended to gather the existing results as well as to introduce new ones on the field of initial value problems for singularly perturbed evolution equations of the resonance type. Such equations are of great interest in the applied sciences, particularly in the kinetic theory which is chosen as the main field of application for the asymptotic theory developed in the monograph.

Book Nonlinear Evolution Equations Kinetic Approach

Download or read book Nonlinear Evolution Equations Kinetic Approach written by Niva B Maslova and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-03-10 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the questions of the long-time behavior of solutions for evolution equations, connected with kinetic models in statistical physics. There is a wide variety of problems where such models are used to obtain reasonable physical as well as numerical results (Fluid Mechanics, Gas Dynamics, Plasma Physics, Nuclear Physics, Turbulence Theory etc.). The classical examples provide the nonlinear Boltzmann equation. Investigation of the long-time behavior of the solutions for the Boltzmann equation gives an approach to the nonlinear fluid dynamic equations. From the viewpoint of dynamical systems, the fluid dynamic equations arise in the theory as a tool to describe an attractor of the kinetic equation.

Book Numerical Approximation of Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws

Download or read book Numerical Approximation of Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws written by Edwige Godlewski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-28 with total page 846 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to the theory and approximation by finite volume methods of nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in one or two space variables. It follows directly a previous publication on hyperbolic systems of conservation laws by the same authors. Since the earlier work concentrated on the mathematical theory of multidimensional scalar conservation laws, this book will focus on systems and the theoretical aspects which are needed in the applications, such as the solution of the Riemann problem and further insights into more sophisticated problems, with special attention to the system of gas dynamics. This new edition includes more examples such as MHD and shallow water, with an insight on multiphase flows. Additionally, the text includes source terms and well-balanced/asymptotic preserving schemes, introducing relaxation schemes and addressing problems related to resonance and discontinuous fluxes while adding details on the low Mach number situation.

Book Global Controllability And Stabilization Of Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book Global Controllability And Stabilization Of Nonlinear Systems written by Sergey Nikitin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-09-30 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to provide a self-contained, complete and geometrically clear presentation of the recent results on global controllability and stabilization. It contains many pictures and exercises so as to develop a geometrical control intuition and inspire the reader to think independently. The material presented is organized such that for Part I, it is only assumed that the reader has mastered the very basic notions of ordinary differential equation theory, general topology and analytic geometry. For Part II, the reader is assumed to be familiar with the elements of differential geometry.

Book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems Theoretical Applied and Computational Aspects

Download or read book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems Theoretical Applied and Computational Aspects written by Andrea Donato and published by Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design. This book was released on 1993 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains original papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems which was held on April 3-8, 1992 in Taormina (Sicily), Italy. The aim of the Conferences in this cycle is to bring together scientists with interest in theo retical, applied and computational aspects of hyperbolic partial differential equations. The contributions, well balanced among these three aspects, deal with: mathematical theory of wave propagation, kinetic theory, existence, uniqueness and stabil ity of solutions, mathematical modeling of physical phenomena, stability and convergence of numerical schemes, multidimensional computational applications, etc. The papers are printed in the authors' alphabetic order following the idea both of mixing together topics of interest to different areas and of considering either theoretical results connected with applied problems or new applications with an essential mathemat ical approach. The Proceedings from the previous Conferences held in St. Etienne (1986), Aachen (1988) and Uppsala (1990) appeared respectively as: * Lecture Notes in Mathematics, 1270, P. Carasso, P. A. Raviart & D. Serre (Eds.), Springer-Verlag (1987) * Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics, 24, J. Ballmann & R. Jeltsch (Eds.), Vieweg (1989 ) * Third International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems, B. Engquist & B. Gustafs son (Eds.), Vol. I, II, Studentlitteratur, Uppsala University (1991). The organizers and the editors of the Conference would like to thank the Scientific Committee for the generous support, for suggesting the invited lectures, and for selecting the contributed papers.
