Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural health monitoring (SHM) uses one or more in situ sensing systems placed in or around a structure, providing real-time evaluation of its performance and ultimately preventing structural failure. Although most commonly used in civil engineering, such as in roads, bridges, and dams, SHM is now finding applications in other engineering envir

Download or read book Rock Mechanics and Engineering Volume 4 written by Xia-Ting Feng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excavation, Support and Monitoring is the fourth volume of the five-volume set Rock Mechanics and Engineering and contains twenty-three chapters from key experts in the following fields - Excavation Methods; - Support Technology; - Monitoring Technology; - Integrated Engineering Monitoring and Analysis. The five-volume set “Comprehensive Rock Engineering”, which was published in 1993, has had an important influence on the development of rock mechanics and rock engineering. Significant and extensive advances and achievements in these fields over the last 20 years now justify the publishing of a comparable, new compilation. Rock Mechanics and Engineering represents a highly prestigious, multi-volume work edited by Professor Xia-Ting Feng, with the editorial advice of Professor John A. Hudson. This new compilation offers an extremely wide-ranging and comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in rock mechanics and rock engineering and is composed of peer-reviewed, dedicated contributions by all the key experts worldwide. Key features of this set are that it provides a systematic, global summary of new developments in rock mechanics and rock engineering practices as well as looking ahead to future developments in the fields. Contributors are world-renowned experts in the fields of rock mechanics and rock engineering, though younger, talented researchers have also been included. The individual volumes cover an extremely wide array of topics grouped under five overarching themes: Principles (Vol. 1), Laboratory and Field Testing (Vol. 2), Analysis, Modelling and Design (Vol. 3), Excavation, Support and Monitoring (Vol. 4) and Surface and Underground Projects (Vol. 5). This multi-volume work sets a new standard for rock mechanics and engineering compendia and will be the go-to resource for all engineering professionals and academics involved in rock mechanics and engineering for years to come.

Download or read book Advances in Steel Structures written by S.L. Chan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-11-15 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes of proceedings contain nine invited keynote papers and 130 contributed papers presented at the Third International Conference on Advances in Steel Structures (ICASS '02) held on 9-11 December 2002 in Hong Kong, China. The conference is a sequel to the First and the Second International Conferences on Advances in Steel Structures held in Hong Kong in December 1996 and 1999. The conference provides a forum for discussion and dissemination by researchers and designers of recent advances in the analysis, behaviour, design and construction of steel structures. Papers were contributed from over 18 countries around the world. They report current state-of-the art and point to future directions of structural steel research, covering a wide spectrum of topics including: beams and columns; connections; scaffolds and slender structures; cold-formed steel; composite construction; plates; shells; bridges; dynamics; impact mechanics; effects of welding; fatigue and fracture; fire performance; and analysis and design.

Download or read book Structural Health Monitoring written by Charles R. Farrar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-11-19 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by global leaders and pioneers in the field, this book is a must-have read for researchers, practicing engineers and university faculty working in SHM. Structural Health Monitoring: A Machine Learning Perspective is the first comprehensive book on the general problem of structural health monitoring. The authors, renowned experts in the field, consider structural health monitoring in a new manner by casting the problem in the context of a machine learning/statistical pattern recognition paradigm, first explaining the paradigm in general terms then explaining the process in detail with further insight provided via numerical and experimental studies of laboratory test specimens and in-situ structures. This paradigm provides a comprehensive framework for developing SHM solutions. Structural Health Monitoring: A Machine Learning Perspective makes extensive use of the authors’ detailed surveys of the technical literature, the experience they have gained from teaching numerous courses on this subject, and the results of performing numerous analytical and experimental structural health monitoring studies. Considers structural health monitoring in a new manner by casting the problem in the context of a machine learning/statistical pattern recognition paradigm Emphasises an integrated approach to the development of structural health monitoring solutions by coupling the measurement hardware portion of the problem directly with the data interrogation algorithms Benefits from extensive use of the authors’ detailed surveys of 800 papers in the technical literature and the experience they have gained from teaching numerous short courses on this subject.

Download or read book Ambient vibration studies for system identification of civil structures written by 김은주 and published by 한양대학교 출판부. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil infrastructure undergoes various and consistent loads during its lifecycles, such as wind, seismic loads, and etc. The declining condition, the performance of the structure and the potential consequential damages due to the loads become critical in most industrialized countries (Spencer et al., 2016). Therefore, during decades, efforts have been made to understand the serviceability of the structure. Because the behavior of a structure depends on stiffness and mass distribution, the structure may have been examined through finite element models. However, because the aged structure show changed condition, such a method often fail to predict the fundamental characteristics of the structure precisely. Alternatively, the driving interests have been made to develop a non-destructive tool that can estimate the characteristics of an in-service structure, which one among various is known as Structural Health Monitoring.
