Book Nondestructive Evaluation of Inhomogeneous Cylindrical Components by Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy

Download or read book Nondestructive Evaluation of Inhomogeneous Cylindrical Components by Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy written by Ying Fan and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates the potential application of a technique called Material Characterization by Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy (MCRAS) for the purpose of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and on-line monitoring of inhomogeneous non-isotropic copper rods produced by the Ohno Continuous Casting (OCC) process. Experimental measurements of the scattered pressure fields are performed on copper samples with different levels of inhomogeneity by using the short-pulse Method of Isolation and Identification of Resonances (MIIR). Two distinct types of resonances have been observed from the experimental results. These resonances are proved to be useful in estimating the average material properties and grain sizes of the copper rods. It is concluded that MCRAS is a potentially powerful technique for non-destructive evaluation and on-line monitoring of inhomogeneous non-isotropic copper rods.

Book Nondestructive Evaluation of Cylindrical Components by Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy

Download or read book Nondestructive Evaluation of Cylindrical Components by Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy written by Farhang Honarvar and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Potential applications of resonance acoustic spectroscopy (RAS) for the purpose of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and on-line monitoring of isotropic clad rods and transversely isotropic cylinders are investigated in this thesis. Mathematical models are developed for the scattering of an infinite plane acoustic wave from infinite elastic and viscoelastic clad rods and infinite transversely isotropic cylinders. In these mathematical models, the scattered pressure field is obtained in terms of normal-mode Rayleigh series. Experimental measurements of the scattered pressure fields of various cylindrical components are performed using the short-pulse method of isolation and identification of resonances (MIIR). The method is applied to: copper-clad aluminum rods, Epon-815-clad steel rods, and fiber reinforced composite rods. The experimental results show good consistency with the results obtained from mathematical models. It is concluded that RAS is a potentially powerful technique for nondestructive evaluation and on-line monitoring of various cylindrical components.

Download or read book Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy written by Naum D. Veksler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resonance Acoustic Spectroscopy deals with the analysis of waves generated in an elastic body by a plane harmonic acoustic wave. It is the first monograph to treat new analytical and experimental methods for the investigation of the excitation, propagation and re-radiation of elastic waves in solid, thick-walled and thin-walled elastic scatterers. The material is presented systematically, comprising the formulation of the problem, method of solution, algorithm, computation and analysis. A large number of computational results are given in the form of modal resonances, form functions, dispersion curves and acoustic spectrograms. Particular attention is paid to the interpretation of the solutions.

Book Rock Dynamics and Applications 3

Download or read book Rock Dynamics and Applications 3 written by Charlie C. Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-18 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications is a collection of scientific and technical papers presented at the Third International Conference on Rock Dynamics and Applications (RocDyn-3, Trondheim, Norway, 26-27 June 2018). The papers in the book reflect the recent developments in experiment and theory as well as engineering applications of rock dynamics. Rock dynamics studies the response of rock and rock masses under dynamic loading and during the state transition from static loading to kinetic movement. It also includes the study of engineering countermeasures to dynamic instability of rock and rock masses. The topics in the book include: - Dynamic theories - Numerical simulation - Propagation of stress waves - Dynamic tests of rock - Stability of underground openings under dynamic loading - Rockburst - Seismic monitoring - Dynamic rock support - Blasting - Earthquake-related rock structure damage, etc. Applications, such as rockburst, dynamic rock support, seismic monitoring, blasting and earthquake-related rock structure damage, are paid special attention in Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications. The papers, from specialists both from mining and tunnelling branches, discuss commonly interested dynamic issues. Their experience and knowledge in the application of rock dynamics are extremely valuable for all academics, engineers and professionals who work with rock dynamics.

Book Deformation and Failure Mechanism of Rock Tunnels under Earthquake Loading

Download or read book Deformation and Failure Mechanism of Rock Tunnels under Earthquake Loading written by Yujing Jiang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic damage to rock tunnels from recent earthquakes indicates an urgent need for seismic assessment and aseismic design of underground structures. This book offers a comprehensive account of seismic performance and the response of underground structures under earthquake loading, necessary for adequate assessment and design. The book presents research methods for the rate-dependent mechanical behavior of rock and for the seismic behavior of underground structures. It describes analytical solutions to investigate the seismic response of tunnels subjected to seismic waves, toward an improved quantitative understanding of the seismic deformation and failure mechanism in both longitudinal and transversal aspects. A performance-based restoration design criterion and aseismic design are also proposed for future tunnel planning. Includes a detailed case study for the seismic performance assessment of rock tunnels under earthquake loading Explores the relationship between seismic damage to underground structures and ground deformation Covers a range of issues from mechanisms, analysis, assessment and design of both new tunnels and restoration projects The book is ideal for earthquake engineers and researchers, and will also be of interest to contractors, clients, researchers, lecturers, and advanced students working on tunnel engineering.

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald O. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 2348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings, consisting of Parts A and B, contain the edited versions of most of the papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation held at the University of Washington, Seattle on July 30 to August 4, 1995. The Review was organized by the Center for NDE at Iowa State University, in cooperation with the Ames Laboratory of the USDOE, the American Society of Nondestructive Testing, the Department of Energy, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Science Foundation IndustryiUniversity Cooperative Research Centers, and the Working Group in Quantitative NDE. This year's Review of Progress in QNDE was attended by approximately 450 participants from the US and many foreign countries who presented over 375 papers. The meeting was divided into 36 sessions with as many as four sessions running concurrently. The Review covered all phases of NDE research and development from fundamental investigations to engineering applications or inspection systems, and it included many important methods of inspection science from acoustics to x-rays. In the last several years, the Review has stabilized at about its current size. Most participants seem to agree it is large enough to permit a full-scale overview of the latest developments but still small enough to retain the collegial atmosphere which has marked the Review since its inception. The Proceedings are structured in a format to reflect the organization of the Review itself, producing a more logical organization for both the meeting and the present volume.
