Book Group Identities on Units and Symmetric Units of Group Rings

Download or read book Group Identities on Units and Symmetric Units of Group Rings written by Gregory T Lee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let FG be the group ring of a group G over a field F. Write U(FG) for the group of units of FG. It is an important problem to determine the conditions under which U(FG) satisfies a group identity. In the mid 1990s, a conjecture of Hartley was verified, namely, if U(FG) satisfies a group identity, and G is torsion, then FG satisfies a polynomial identity. Necessary and sufficient conditions for U(FG) to satisfy a group identity soon followed. Since the late 1990s, many papers have been devoted to the study of the symmetric units; that is, those units u satisfying u* = u, where * is the involution on FG defined by sending each element of G to its inverse. The conditions under which these symmetric units satisfy a group identity have now been determined. This book presents these results for arbitrary group identities, as well as the conditions under which the unit group or the set of symmetric units satisfies several particular group identities of interest.

Book Noncommutative Noetherian Rings

Download or read book Noncommutative Noetherian Rings written by John C. McConnell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a reprinted edition of a work that was considered the definitive account in the subject area upon its initial publication by J. Wiley & Sons in 1987. It presents, within a wider context, a comprehensive account of noncommutative Noetherian rings. The author covers the major developments from the 1950s, stemming from Goldie's theorem and onward, including applications to group rings, enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, PI rings, differential operators, and localization theory. The book is not restricted to Noetherian rings, but discusses wider classes of rings where the methods apply more generally. In the current edition, some errors were corrected, a number of arguments have been expanded, and the references were brought up to date. This reprinted edition will continue to be a valuable and stimulating work for readers interested in ring theory and its applications to other areas of mathematics.

Book Semilocal Categories and Modules with Semilocal Endomorphism Rings

Download or read book Semilocal Categories and Modules with Semilocal Endomorphism Rings written by Alberto Facchini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects and coherently presents the research that has been undertaken since the author’s previous book Module Theory (1998). In addition to some of the key results since 1995, it also discusses the development of much of the supporting material. In the twenty years following the publication of the Camps-Dicks theorem, the work of Facchini, Herbera, Shamsuddin, Puninski, Prihoda and others has established the study of serial modules and modules with semilocal endomorphism rings as one of the promising directions for module-theoretic research. Providing readers with insights into the directions in which the research in this field is moving, as well as a better understanding of how it interacts with other research areas, the book appeals to undergraduates and graduate students as well as researchers interested in algebra.

Book Computational Group Theory and the Theory of Groups

Download or read book Computational Group Theory and the Theory of Groups written by Luise-Charlotte Kappe and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The power of general purpose computational algebra systems running on personal computers has increased rapidly in recent years. For mathematicians doing research in group theory, this means a growing set of sophisticated computational tools are now available for their use in developing new theoretical results." "This volume consists of contributions by researchers invited to the AMS Special Session on Computational Group Theory held in March 2007. The main focus of the session was on the application of Computational Group Theory (CGT) to a wide range of theoretical aspects of group theory. The articles in this volume provide a variety of examples of how these computer systems helped to solve interesting theoretical problems within the discipline, such as constructions of finite simple groups, classification of $p$-groups via coclass, representation theory and constructions involving free nilpotent groups. The volume also includes an article by R. F. Morse highlighting applications of CGT in group theory and two survey articles." "Graduate students and researchers interested in various aspects of group theory will find many examples of Computational Group Theory helping research and will recognize it as yet another tool at their disposal."--BOOK JACKET.
