Book Non Standard Physics in Leptonic and Semileptonic Decays of Charmed Mesons

Download or read book Non Standard Physics in Leptonic and Semileptonic Decays of Charmed Mesons written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent measurements of the branching fraction for D{sub s} → lv disagree with the Standard Model expectation, which relies on calculations of f{sub D{sub s}} from lattice QCD. This paper uses recent preliminary measurements from CLEO and a new preliminary lattice-QCD result from this conference to update the significance of the discrepancy. The 'f{sub D{sub s}} puzzle' stands now at 3.5[sigma], with [sigma] predominantly from the statistical uncertainty of the experiments. New physics scenarios that could solve the puzzle would also lead to non-Standard amplitudes mediating the semileptonic decays D → Klv. This paper shows where the new amplitudes enter the differential rate and outlines where lattice QCD calculations are needed to confront recent and forthcoming measurements.

Book Leptonic and Semileptonic Decay of B and D Mesons

Download or read book Leptonic and Semileptonic Decay of B and D Mesons written by Krishna Kingkar Pathak and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-18 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with an introductory idea of Leptonic and semileptonic decay of Heavy-Light mesons. It also highlight the application of a specific QCD potential model in this area of physics. Specifically, it also addresses the application of quantum mechanical perturbation method and explicitly the Dalagarno method of perturbation in this context. The necessity of modification of the model within the constraints of QCD and the model itself is explained and also improved accordingly. Out of the five chapters, the second and third chapters address the leptonic decay of B and D mesons whereas in the last two chapters, the study of semileptonic decay in terms of the universal form factor, Isgur-Wise function is well explained.

Book Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model

Download or read book Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model written by Paul G Langacker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-23 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.

Book Leptonic Decays of Charged Pseudoscalar Mesons 2015

Download or read book Leptonic Decays of Charged Pseudoscalar Mesons 2015 written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We review the physics of purely leptonic decays of $\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $D^{\pm}$, $D_s^\pm$, and $B^\pm$ pseudoscalar mesons. The measured decay rates are related to the product of the relevant weak-interaction-based CKM matrix element of the constituent quarks and a strong interaction parameter related to the overlap of the quark and antiquark wave-functions in the meson, called the decay constant $f_P$. The leptonic decay constants for $\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $D^{\pm}$, $D_s^\pm$, and $B^\pm$ mesons can be obtained with controlled theoretical uncertainties and high precision from {\it ab initio} lattice-QCD simulations. The combination of experimental leptonic decay-rate measurements and theoretical decay-constant calculations enables the determination of several elements of the CKM matrix within the standard model. These determinations are competitive with those obtained from semileptonic decays, and also complementary because they are sensitive to different quark flavor-changing currents. They can also be used to test the unitarity of the first and second rows of the CKM matrix. Conversely, taking the CKM elements predicted by unitarity, one can infer "experimental" values for $f_P$ that can be compared with theory. These provide tests of lattice-QCD methods, provided new-physics contributions to leptonic decays are negligible at the current level of precision. This review is the basis of the article in the Particle Data Group's 2016 edition, updating the versions in Refs. [1-3].

Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Heavy Flavour Physics a Probe of Nature s Grand Design

Download or read book Heavy Flavour Physics a Probe of Nature s Grand Design written by Società italiana di fisica and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures collected in this book present a comprehensive review of the current knowledge of heavy-quark physics, from the points of view of both theory and experiment. Heavy Flavour Physics has accomplished enormous progress during the last few years: the last heavy quark has been discovered and the quality of the collected data on the other relatively lighter quarks has dramatically improved. On the theory side, noticeable progress has been reported on new calculations of decay rates based on various techniques, such as QCD sum rules, heavy-quark mass expansion and lattice QCD. The theory of heavy quark production is constantly improving and awaiting new results. Nevertheless there are strong reasons to believe that the Standard Model of High Energy Physics is incomplete. It exhibits very peculiar patterns for which it offers no explanation. The basic constituents of matter are arranged into three seemingly identical generations or families of quarks and leptons, differing merely in their masses. The pattern in the fermion masses, why they are families and why there are three of them is not yet understood. Furthermore it is known that at least within the standard model there is an intimate connection between the replication of families and the gateway of CP violation, in addition, the latter phenomenon is a crucial ingredient in explaining why our universe is made up almost exclusively of matter rather than being more or less matter-antimatter symmetric. How and to what extent can Heavy Flavour Physics impact on these questions? Does it offer novel windows onto New Physics beyond the Standard Model in general and onto new symmetries, such as Supersymmetry in particular? These questions constitute the central theme of this book. The material treated in this publication may serve as reference for the segment of the high-energy community actively engaged in heavy-quark physics.

Book High Energy Electron positron Physics

Download or read book High Energy Electron positron Physics written by Ahmed Ali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1988 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the termination of the physics program at PETRA, and with the start of TRISTAN and the SLC and later LEP, an era of e+e- physics has come to an end and a new one begins. The field is changing from a field of few specialists, to becoming one of the mainstream efforts of the high energy community. It seems appropriate at this moment to summarize what has been learned over the past years, in a way most useful to any high energy physicists, in particular to newcomers in the e+e- field. This is the purpose of the book. This book should be used as a reference for future workers in the field of e+e- interactions. It includes the most relevant data, parametrizations, theoretical background, and a chapter on detectors.

Book B to Tau Leptonic and Semileptonic Decays

Download or read book B to Tau Leptonic and Semileptonic Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decays of B mesons to states involving [tau] leptons can be used as a tool to search for the effects of new physics, such as those involving a charged Higgs boson. The experimental status of the decays B → [tau][nu] and B → D{sup (*)}[tau][nu] is discussed, together with limits on new physics effects from current results. Leptonic and semileptonic decays of B mesons into states involving [tau] leptons remain experimentally challenging, but can prove a useful tool for constraining Standard Model parameters, and also offer to constrain the effects of any new physics that may exist including the presence of a charged Higgs boson.
