Book Fatigue and Fracture of Non metallic Materials and Structures

Download or read book Fatigue and Fracture of Non metallic Materials and Structures written by Andrea Spagnoli and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanics of fracture and fatigue have produced a huge body of research work in relation to applications to metal materials and structures. However, a variety of non-metallic materials (e.g., concrete and cementitious composites, rocks, glass, ceramics, bituminous mixtures, composites, polymers, rubber and soft matter, bones and biological materials, and advanced and multifunctional materials) have received relatively less attention, despite their attractiveness for a large spectrum of applications related to the components and structures of diverse engineering branches, applied sciences and architecture, and to the load-carrying systems of biological organisms. This book covers the broad topic of structural integrity of non-metallic materials, considering the modelling, assessment, and reliability of structural elements of any scale. Original contributions from engineers, mechanical materials scientists, computer scientists, physicists, chemists, and mathematicians are presented, applying both experimental and theoretical approaches.

Book Materials of Chemical Plant Construction Non Metals Classic Reprint

Download or read book Materials of Chemical Plant Construction Non Metals Classic Reprint written by Hugh Griffiths and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Materials of Chemical Plant Construction Non-Metals In the application of constructional materials to chemical plant, not only must mechanical properties and the usual influences, such as atmospheric action, weathering and rusting, be taken into account, but also the effects of wide ranges of physical conditions and corrosive action have to be considered. It is a commonplace that in many chemical plants the costs of repairs and replacements may be a very serious proportion of manufacturing charges. Nevertheless in many works one finds that there is an extraordinary state of indefiniteness in respect of knowledge of materials of construction, and frequently breakdowns result which cause serious losses of production, time, and consequently of profits. In such works very frequently the designing engineer has but little knowledge of chemistry, and relies on the chemist for information as to how the various materials will "stand up" under the special influences to which they will be subjected. If it should happen that the chemist is without plant experience, the results are disastrous. A chemist from the laboratory with experience of the behaviour of materials in vitro is by no means a sure guide, and the behaviour of some materials on the large scale is liable to surprise him. Book Ecology of Building Materials

Download or read book Ecology of Building Materials written by Bjørn Berge and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-08-22 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As both a practising architect and a researcher, Berge introduces us authoritatively to issues such as using raw materials from renewable sources, and the possibilities of designing and manufacturing reusable building materials. The alternatives to modern building materials are outlined and discussed from an ecological perspective. In a time when environmental labelling is becoming increasingly popular and the producers of building materials are urged to be more environmentally aware, it is obviously important that we are acquainted with these alternatives. Important issues discussed in this book include: Can raw materials from non-renewable sources be replaced with raw materials from widely available or non-depletable sources? Can environmentally friendly chemicals replace environmentally damaging ones? Can the make-up of building materials be altered so that individual components can be re-used? A clear interpretation of complicated Life Cycle Analysis issues and vital guidance are given to specifiers confronted with a plethora of manufacturers' environmental claims.

Book Facade Construction Manual

Download or read book Facade Construction Manual written by Thomas Herzog and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-10 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facades - they are the first feature of a building to be noticed, they determine its distinctive appearance and are often the subject of controversial debate. This new first edition of the Facade Construction Manual provides a systematic survey of contemporary expertise in the application of new materials and energy- efficient technologies in facade design, and represents an invaluable addition to our series of Construction Manuals. It surveys the facade design requirements made by various types of buildings, as well as the most important materials, from natural stone through to synthetics, and documents a diversity of construction forms for a wide range of building types. Over 100 international case-studies in large-scale, detailed drawings are presented in the comprehensive project section.
