Book Game Theory A Nontechnical Introduction To The Analysis Of Strategy Fourth Edition

Download or read book Game Theory A Nontechnical Introduction To The Analysis Of Strategy Fourth Edition written by Roger A Mccain and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-05-29 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As with the previous editions, this fourth edition relies on teaching by example and the Karplus Learning Cycle to convey the ideas of game theory in a way that is approachable, intuitive, and interdisciplinary. Noncooperative equilibrium concepts such as Nash equilibrium, mixed strategy equilibria, and subgame perfect equilibrium are systematically introduced in the first half of the book. Bayesian Nash equilibrium is briefly introduced. The subsequent chapters discuss cooperative solutions with and without side payments, rationalizable strategies and correlated equilibria, and applications to elections, social mechanism design, and larger-scale games. New examples include panic buying, supply-chain shifts in the pandemic, and global warming.

Book Strategic Aspects of Oligopolistic Vertical Integration

Download or read book Strategic Aspects of Oligopolistic Vertical Integration written by C. Wu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text some fundamental issues concerning the strategic impact of vertical structures of firms are discussed in a successive oligopoly model. Vertical integration strategy has been identified as one of the key strategies which determine the success or failure of enterprises. Many studies on vertical integration are based on business experiences and interviews with managers. However, the extensive application of game theory in business economics allows this study on vertical integration to be based on sound theoretic ground. Moreover, the significance of public enterprises in some Western European economies and the trends of economic transition in Eastern Europe justify the efforts to analyse vertical integration issues in the mixed market, which is created by the participation of a public firm into an industry otherwise characterised as a successive oligopoly.

Book New Challenges in Applied Intelligence Technologies

Download or read book New Challenges in Applied Intelligence Technologies written by Radoslaw Katarzyniak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-29 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To built intelligent systems that can cope with real world problems we need to - velop computational mechanisms able to deal with very large amounts of data, gen- ate complex plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies, re-plan their actions in real time, provide user friendly communication for human-device interactions, and perform complex optimization problems. In each of these tasks intelligence techno- gies play an important role, providing designers and creators with effective and adequate computational models. The field of intelligence technologies covers a variety of computational approaches that are often suggested and inspired by biological systems, exhibiting functional richness and flexibility of their natural behavior. This class of technologies consists of such important approaches as data mining algorithms, neural networks, genetic al- rithms, fuzzy and multi-valued logics, rough sets, agent-oriented computation, often integrated into complex hybrid solutions. Intelligence technologies are used to built machines that can act and think like living systems, solve problems in an autonomous way, develop rich private knowledge bases and produce results not foreseen and programmed in a direct way by designers and creators.

Book A Primer in Social Choice Theory

Download or read book A Primer in Social Choice Theory written by Wulf Gaertner and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-04-23 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Processes of collective decision making are seen throughout modern society. How does a government decide on an investment strategy within the health care and educational sectors? Should a government or a community introduce measures to combat climate change and CO2 emissions, even if others choose not too? Should a country develop a nuclear capability despite the risk that other countries may follow their lead? This introductory text explores the theory of social choice. Social choice theory provides an analysis of collective decision making. The main aim of the book is to introduce students to the various methods of aggregating the preferences of all members of a given society into some social or collective preference. Written as a primer suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduates, this text will act as an important starting point for students grappling with the complexities of social choice theory. With all new chapter exercises this rigorous yet accessible primer avoids the use of technical language and provides an up-to-date discussion of this rapidly developing field.

Book Game Theory and Public Policy

Download or read book Game Theory and Public Policy written by Roger A. McCain and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory is useful in understanding collective human activity as the outcome of interactive decisions. In recent years it has become a more prominent aspect of research and applications in public policy disciplines such as economics, philosophy, management and political science, and in work within public policy itself. Here Roger McCain makes use of the analytical tools of game theory with the pragmatic purpose of identifying problems and exploring potential solutions in public policy. In practice, the influence of game theory on public policy and related disciplines has been less a consequence of broad theorems than of insightful examples. Accordingly, the author offers a critical review of major topics from both cooperative and noncooperative game theory, including less-known ideas in noncooperative game theory and constructive proposals for new approaches. In so doing, he provides a toolkit for the analysis of public policy as well as a clearer understanding of the public policy enterprise itself. The author s unique approach and treatment of game theory will be a useful resource for students and scholars of economics and public policy, as well as for policymakers themselves.

Book Principles of Practice in Multi Agent Systems

Download or read book Principles of Practice in Multi Agent Systems written by Jung-Jin Yang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-11 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agents are software processes that perceive and act in an environment, processing their perceptions to make intelligent decisions about actions to achieve their goals. Multi-agent systems have multiple agents that work in the same environment to achieve either joint or conflicting goals. Agent computing and technology is an exciting, emerging paradigm expected to play a key role in many society-changing practices from disaster response to manufacturing to agriculture. Agent and mul- agent researchers are focused on building working systems that bring together a broad range of technical areas from market theory to software engineering to user interfaces. Agent systems are expected to operate in real-world environments, with all the challenges complex environments present. After 11 successful PRIMA workshops/conferences (Pacific-Rim International Conference/Workshop on Multi-Agents), PRIMA became a new conference titled “International Conference on Principles of Practice in Multi-Agent Systems” in 2009. With over 100 submissions, an acceptance rate for full papers of 25% and 50% for posters, a demonstration session, an industry track, a RoboCup competition and workshops and tutorials, PRIMA has become an important venue for multi-agent research. Papers submitted are from all parts of the world, though with a higher representation of Pacific Rim countries than other major multi-agent research forums. This volume presents 34 high-quality and exciting technical papers on multimedia research and an additional 18 poster papers that give brief views on exciting research.

Book Collected Papers

Download or read book Collected Papers written by Robert J. Aumann and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Aumann's career in game theory has spanned over research - from his doctoral dissertation in 1956 to papers as recent as January 1995. Threaded through all of Aumann's work (symbolized in his thesis on knots) is the study of relationships between different ideas, between different phenomena, and between ideas and phenomena. "When you look closely at one scientific idea", writes Aumann, "you find it hitched to all others. It is these hitches that I have tried to study". The papers are organized in several categories: general, knot theory, decision theory (utility and subjective probability), strategic games, coalitional games, and mathematical methods. Aumann has written an introduction to each of these groups that briefly describes the content and background of each paper, including the motivation and the research process, and relates it to other work in the collection and to work by others. There is also a citation index that allows readers to trace the considerable body of literature which cites Aumann's own work.

Book Fair Revenue Sharing Mechanisms for Strategic Passenger Airline Alliances

Download or read book Fair Revenue Sharing Mechanisms for Strategic Passenger Airline Alliances written by Demet Çetiner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-03 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major problem arising in airline alliances is to design allocation mechanisms determining how the revenue of a product should be shared among the airlines. The nucleolus is a concept of cooperative game theory that provides solutions for allocating the cost or benefit of a cooperation. This work provides fair revenue proportions for the airline alliances based on the nucleolus, which assumes a centralized decision making system. The proposed mechanism is used as a benchmark to evaluate the fairness of the revenue sharing mechanisms, where the alliance partners behave selfishly. Additionally, a new selfish revenue allocation rule is developed that improves the performance of the existing methods.
