Book 1985 Small Propeller Driven Aircraft Noise Test Program

Download or read book 1985 Small Propeller Driven Aircraft Noise Test Program written by Kenneth E. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international aviation community is currently reviewing noise certification procedure for small propeller-driven aircraft. Under discussion is a proposal to substitute a ground-plane microphone for the currently specified elevated microphone as a means of suppressing spectral irregularities. Given the strong low and mid-range tonal frequencies attendent to propeller-driven aircraft, the constructive/destructive interference pattern in an aircraft frequency spectrum can result in inconsistent certification test results for aircraft with different blade passage frequencies. The Federal Aviation Administration conducted several flight tests during the summer of 1985 in-order-to compare noise levels measured at four feet to ground-plane levels as a function of the blade passage frequency. The purpose of this report is to present a preliminary assessment of the data acquired during the flight tests. A more comprehensive analysis of the test results will be documented in the final report. Three flight tests were performed using a Cessna 210, Cessna Caravan I, and a (Beechcraft) U.S. NAVY T-34C. A vertical array (3.75 to 7.0 ft.) of microphones and a range of test RPMs were used in-order-to test the theoretical prediction of the ground reinforcement effect. As a secondary objective, the microphones were redeployed in horizontal arrays to test for a difference in variability between elevated and ground-plane microphones. The primary installation for the ground-plane microphone was over a 0.4 meter circular metal plate. A comparison was also made between 0.4 meter and 36 inch diameter ground plates.

Book Correction Procedures for Aircraft Noise Data Volume V Propeller Aircraft Noise

Download or read book Correction Procedures for Aircraft Noise Data Volume V Propeller Aircraft Noise written by David Brown and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report examines three particular problem areas associated with the measurement of noise levels of propeller-driven small airplanes required to comply with FAR Part 36, Appendix F. These problems are directly related to effects of atmospheric conditions on (1) the performance capabilities of an airplane when tested at various barometric pressures and altitude densities; (2) the noise signature generated at such conditions; and (3) the propagation of sound from the airplane to the measuring station. The first two of these have been addressed by deriving potential correction procedures which could be applied to noise levels obtained by tests not in strict compliance with Appendix F. These corrections are based on aircraft operations conducted within a specific margin of power setting. The corresponding measured noise levels are subsequently corrected for variation of propeller tip speed, forward velocity and barometric pressure relative to predetermined reference conditions. The third effect, that of sound propagation, si examined by applying SAE ARP 866A to a typical propeller airplane noise spectrum and demonstrating the range of A-weight noise levels that would result within a range of ambient conditions. Book Noise Certification Predictions for Fjx 2 Powered Aircraft Using Analytic Methods

Download or read book Noise Certification Predictions for Fjx 2 Powered Aircraft Using Analytic Methods written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-25 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Williams International Co. is currently developing the 700-pound thrust class FJX-2 turbofan engine for the general Aviation Propulsion Program's Turbine Engine Element. As part of the 1996 NASA-Williams cooperative working agreement, NASA agreed to analytically calculate the noise certification levels of the FJX-2-powered V-Jet II test bed aircraft. Although the V-Jet II is a demonstration aircraft that is unlikely to be produced and certified, the noise results presented here may be considered to be representative of the noise levels of small, general aviation jet aircraft that the FJX-2 would power. A single engine variant of the V-Jet II, the V-Jet I concept airplane, is also considered. Reported in this paper are the analytically predicted FJX-2/V-Jet noise levels appropriate for Federal Aviation Regulation certification. Also reported are FJX-2/V-Jet noise levels using noise metrics appropriate for the propeller-driven aircraft that will be its major market competition, as well as a sensitivity analysis of the certification noise levels to major system uncertainties. Book Uhb Demonstrator Interior Noise Control Flight Tests and Analysis

Download or read book Uhb Demonstrator Interior Noise Control Flight Tests and Analysis written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measurement and analysis of MD-UHB (McDonnell Douglas Ultra High Bypass) Demonstrator noise and vibration flight test data are described as they relate to passenger cabin noise. The analyses were done to investigate the interior noise characteristics of advanced turboprop aircraft with aft-mounted engines, and to study the effectiveness of selected noise control treatments in reducing passenger cabin noise. The UHB Demonstrator is an MD-80 test aircraft with the left JT8D engine replaced with a prototype UHB engine. For these tests, the UHB engine was a General Electric Unducted Fan, with either 8x8 or 10x8 counter-rotating propeller configurations. Interior noise level characteristics were studied for several altitudes and speeds, with emphasis on high altitude (35,000 ft), high speed (0.75 Mach) cruise conditions. The effectiveness of several noise control treatments was evaluated based on cabin noise measurements. The important airborne and structureborne transmission paths were identified for both tonal and broadband sources using the results of a sound intensity survey, exterior and interior noise and vibration data, and partial coherence analysis techniques. Estimates of the turbulent boundary layer pressure wavenumber-frequency spectrum were made, based on measured fuselage noise levels. Simpson, M. A. and Druez, P. M. and Kimbrough, A. J. and Brock, M. This book was released on 1985 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September, 1984, the FAA, with the cooperation and support of the General Aviation Manufacturers' Assoc. (GAMA), conducted a noise measurement program on small propeller-driven aircraft at Salina Municipal Airport, Salina, Kansas. The program objectives were: (1) to obtain takeoff noise data using prepared international and U.S. certification procedures for propeller-driven small airplanes; and (2) to measure the benefits of noise abatement takeoff procedures being developed by the manufacturers for inclusion in the Pilot's Operating Handbook. For the five twin and four single engine aircraft tested, the results show an average noise reduction of 4.4 decibels when using reduced power procedures after takeoff. Keywords: General aviation; Noise abatement; Operating procedures.
