Book Analysis of Helicopter Noise Data Using International Helicopter Noise Certification Procedures

Download or read book Analysis of Helicopter Noise Data Using International Helicopter Noise Certification Procedures written by J. S. Newman and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the results of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noise measurement flight test program involving seven helicopters and establishes noise levels using the basic testing, reduction and analysis procedures specified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for helicopter noise certification supplemented with some procedural refinements contained in ICAO Working Group II recommendations for incorporation into the standard. The helicopters analyzed in this report include the Hughes 500 D/E, the Aerospatiale AS 350D (AStar), the Aerospatiale AS 355F (TwinStar), the Aerospatiale SA 365 (Dauphin), the Bell 222 Twin Jet, the Boeing Vertol 234/CH 47-D, and the Sikorsky S-76. The document discusses the evolution of international helicopter noise certification procedures and describes in detail the data acquisition, reduction and adjustment procedures. Noise levels are plotted versus the logarithm of maximum gross takeoff weight and are shown relative to the ICAO noise level limits. Data from the ICAO Committee on Aircraft Noise (CAN) Seventh meeting 'request for data' are also presented. Reference testing and operational data are provided for each helicopter. Keywords: Heliport environmental impact, Certification standards.

Book Aircraft Exterior Noise Measurement and Analysis Techniques

Download or read book Aircraft Exterior Noise Measurement and Analysis Techniques written by Hanno Heller and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume describes testing and analysis techniques to measure aircraft noise primarily for purposes of noise certification as specified by the International Civil Aviation Organization. The relevant aircraft noise certification 'Standards' and 'Recommended Practices' are presented in detail for subsonic jet aeroplanes, for heavy and light propeller-driven aeroplanes and for helicopters. The practical execution of conducting noise certification tests is treated in depth. The characteristics and requirements of the acoustic and non-acoustic instrumentation for data acquisition and data processing are discussed, as are the procedures to determine the special noise measures 'Effective Perceived Noise Level' and 'Maximum Overall A-weighted Noise Level' that are required for the noise certification of different types of aircraft. The AGARDograph also contains an extensive -- although selective -- discussion of test and analysis techniques for more detailed aircraft noise studies by means of either flight experiments or full-scale and model-scale wind tunnel experiments.

Book Noise Certification Predictions for Fjx 2 Powered Aircraft Using Analytic Methods

Download or read book Noise Certification Predictions for Fjx 2 Powered Aircraft Using Analytic Methods written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Williams International Co. is currently developing the 700-pound thrust class FJX-2 turbofan engine for the general Aviation Propulsion Program's Turbine Engine Element. As part of the 1996 NASA-Williams cooperative working agreement, NASA agreed to analytically calculate the noise certification levels of the FJX-2-powered V-Jet II test bed aircraft. Although the V-Jet II is a demonstration aircraft that is unlikely to be produced and certified, the noise results presented here may be considered to be representative of the noise levels of small, general aviation jet aircraft that the FJX-2 would power. A single engine variant of the V-Jet II, the V-Jet I concept airplane, is also considered. Reported in this paper are the analytically predicted FJX-2/V-Jet noise levels appropriate for Federal Aviation Regulation certification. Also reported are FJX-2/V-Jet noise levels using noise metrics appropriate for the propeller-driven aircraft that will be its major market competition, as well as a sensitivity analysis of the certification noise levels to major system uncertainties. Book NOISECHECK Procedures for Measuring Noise Exposure from Aircraft Operations

Download or read book NOISECHECK Procedures for Measuring Noise Exposure from Aircraft Operations written by Dwight E. Bishop and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOISECHECK is a measurement program used (1) when an engineer is uncertain about a Sound Exposure Level (SEL) resulting from a particular type of operation or (2) to check noise contours determined by NOISEMAP - an Air Force computer program. The file of aircraft noise data used by NOISEMAP is called NOISEFILE. The NOISECHECK measurement program uses portable noise monitors that measure Day-Night Sound Levels (DNLs) over one or more days as well as individual Sound Exposure Levels (SELs). The measured DNLs are then compared with the DNLs calculated by NOISEMAP, or they contribute SEL data for comparison with NOISEFILE. This report delineates the field test data acquisition and analysis procedures used to conduct NOISECHECK type measurement studies. A companion report, AMRL-TR-78-125, Development of NOISECHECK Technology for Measuring Aircraft Noise Exposure, describes the instrumentation development and subsequent field test conducted at Barksdale AFB as part of this research effort.
