Download or read book Noise and Skid Measurements on US285 in the Turkey Creek Canyon Area written by Robert LaForce and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the noise measurements taken using a single vehicle on four different pavement surface textures. The pavements were located on US285 southwest of Denver, Colorado. Noise measurements were taken inside the vehicle, 25 ft from the center of the closest driving lane, and near the right rear tire. Skid testing was performed at 40 mph in conformance with the American Society for Testing and Materials procedure E 274 for a ribbed tire. The surface types included longitudinal tined concrete, transverse tined concrete, ground concrete, and an asphalt surface (3/8 in. nominal Stone Mastic Asphalt).

Download or read book Strategic Plan for Improved Concrete Pavement Surface Characteristics written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface characteristics represent a critical issue facing pavement owners and the concrete paving industry. The traveling public has come to expect smoother, quieter, and better drained pavements, all without compromising safety. The overall surface characteristics issue is extremely complex since all pavement surface characteristics properties, including texture, noise, friction, splash/spray, rolling resistance, reflectivity/illuminance, and smoothness, are complexly related. The following needs and gaps related to achieving desired pavement surface characteristics need to be addressed: determine how changes in one surface characteristic affect, either beneficially or detrimentally, other characteristics of the pavement, determine the long-term surface and acoustic durability of different textures, and develop, evaluate, and standardize new data collection and analysis tools. It is clear that an overall strategic and coordinated research approach to the problem must be developed and pursued to address these needs and gaps.

Download or read book Pavement Surface Characteristics written by Mark Bennett Snyder and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents an overview of the major aspects of tire-pavement interaction as they relate to highway noise, safety and economics. The many sources of sound in the highway environment are described and the perception and measurement of noise are discussed. The measurement of roadway friction and the impact of pavement texture on highway safety are described. Techniques for controlling sound from the highway environment are also discussed, including the use of noise walls and barriers and the management of pavement surface characteristics. The noise, safety characteristics and cost-effectiveness of traditional and newer concrete pavement materials and surface textures, including turf drag, longitudinal tining, exposed aggregate, porous concrete, diamond grinding and others, are described and documented through summaries of studies from around the world. Techniques for balancing noise, safety, economics and other factors in the selection of pavement surface type and texture are also reviewed.

Download or read book Crossroads of Change written by Cori Knudten and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encompassing nearly seven thousand acres amid the woodlands of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico, the land that is now Pecos National Historical Park has witnessed thousands of years of cultural history stretching back to the Native peoples who long ago inhabited the pueblos of Pecos, then known as Cicuye. Once a trading center where Pueblo Indians, Spanish soldiers and settlers, and Plains Indians encountered one another, not always peacefully, Pecos was a stop on the Santa Fe Trail in the early 1800s and, later, on the first railroad in New Mexico. It was the site of a critical Civil War battle and in the twentieth century became a tourist destination. This book tells the story of how, over five centuries, cultures and peoples converged at Pecos and transformed its environment, ultimately shaping the landscape that greets park visitors today. Spanning the period from 1540, when Spaniards first arrived, into the twenty-first century, Crossroads of Change focuses on the history of the natural and historic resources Pecos National Historical Park now protects and interprets: the ruins of Pecos Pueblo and a Spanish mission church, a stage stop along the Santa Fe Trail, the Civil War battlefield of Glorieta Pass, a twentieth-century cattle ranch, and the national park itself. In an engaging style, authors Cori Knudten and Maren Bzdek detail the transformations of Pecos over time, often driven by the collision of different cultures, such as that between the Franciscan friars and Pecos Indians in the seventeenth century, and by the introduction of new animals, crops, and agricultural practices—but also by the natural forces of fire, drought, and erosion. Located on a natural trade route, Pecos has long served as a portal between different cultures and environments. Documenting this transformation over the ages, Crossroads of Change also, perhaps, shows us Pecos National Historical Park as a portal to the future.
