Book Physical and chemical principles of nanotechnology

Download or read book Physical and chemical principles of nanotechnology written by Naveen Kumar J R and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Document from the year 2019 in the subject Physics - Nuclear Physics, Molecular Physics, Solid State Physics, grade: A, , course: Nanotechnology, language: English, abstract: Physical and chemical principles of nanotechnology present the subject with the aim of providing information about Quantum Mechanics, Basics of Thermodynamics, Lattice Vibrations and Band Theory of Solids, Semiconductors and Tunneling & Colloidal Systems. This work is primarily intended to be a textbook for bachelor degree students in engineering, science and technology. This book has crucial role to play in the curriculum of all branches of engineering and technology. Quantum mechanics is a physical science dealing with the behaviour of matter and energy on the scale of atoms and subatomic particles/waves. It also forms the basis for the contemporary understanding of how huge objects such as stars and galaxies, and cosmological events such as the Big Bang, can be analyzed and explained. Quantum mechanics is the foundation of several related disciplines including nanotechnology, condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry, structural biology, particle physics, and electronics. The term "quantum mechanics" was first coined by Max Born in 1924. The acceptance by the general physics community of quantum mechanics is due to its accurate prediction of the physical behaviour of systems, including systems where Newtonian mechanics fails. Even general relativity is limited in ways quantum mechanics is not for describing systems at the atomic scale or smaller, at very low or very high energies, or the lowest temperatures. Through a century of experimentation and applied science, the quantum mechanical theory has proven to be very successful and practical. The foundations of quantum mechanics date from the early 1800s, but the real beginnings of QM date from the work of Max Planck in 1900. Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr soon made essential contributions to what is now called the "old quantum theory."

Book excerpt: Frontiers of Science is an eight-volume set that explores notable issues at the forefront of scientific research and inquiry. The interdisciplinary set focuses on the methods and imagination of people who push the boundaries of science by investigating subjects not readily observable or shrouded in obscurity. Understanding the science behind scientific advances is critical because new knowledge and theories sometimes seem unbelievable until the underlying methods leading to their discovery become clear. Designed to complement science curricula, the set covers a broad range of complex, relevant topics that will extend the limits of knowledge and satisfy the curiosity of readers. Chemistry investigates the research and discoveries of the explorers and scientists who expanded knowledge related to the field. Often, these men and women found materials that exhibit remarkable or useful properties, some of which cure disease or make up motors or machines. Each chapter of the book covers the evolution of a significant topic related to chemistry and contains an introduction, a conclusion, a chronology, and a list of resources that allow the reader to focus on the topic being considered. The volume includes information on archaeological chemistry chemistry of the brain fuel cells nanotechnology new chemicals and materials "smart" materials The book contains more than 40 color photographs and line illustrations, sidebars, a glossary, the Periodic Table of the Elements, a detailed list of additional print and Internet resources, and an index. Frontiers of Science is essential for high school students, teachers, and general readers who wish to understand the newest areas of scientific research, from groundbreaking issues that are making headlines to those not as well known. Book Quantum Mechanics with Applications to Nanotechnology and Information Science

Download or read book Quantum Mechanics with Applications to Nanotechnology and Information Science written by Yehuda B. Band and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 993 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum mechanics transcends and supplants classical mechanics at the atomic and subatomic levels. It provides the underlying framework for many subfields of physics, chemistry and materials science, including condensed matter physics, atomic physics, molecular physics, quantum chemistry, particle physics, and nuclear physics. It is the only way we can understand the structure of materials, from the semiconductors in our computers to the metal in our automobiles. It is also the scaffolding supporting much of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The purpose of this book is to present the fundamentals of quantum theory within a modern perspective, with emphasis on applications to nanoscience and nanotechnology, and information-technology. As the frontiers of science have advanced, the sort of curriculum adequate for students in the sciences and engineering twenty years ago is no longer satisfactory today. Hence, the emphasis on new topics that are not included in older reference texts, such as quantum information theory, decoherence and dissipation, and on applications to nanotechnology, including quantum dots, wires and wells. This book provides a novel approach to Quantum Mechanics whilst also giving readers the requisite background and training for the scientists and engineers of the 21st Century who need to come to grips with quantum phenomena The fundamentals of quantum theory are provided within a modern perspective, with emphasis on applications to nanoscience and nanotechnology, and information-technology Older books on quantum mechanics do not contain the amalgam of ideas, concepts and tools necessary to prepare engineers and scientists to deal with the new facets of quantum mechanics and their application to quantum information science and nanotechnology As the frontiers of science have advanced, the sort of curriculum adequate for students in the sciences and engineering twenty years ago is no longer satisfactory today There are many excellent quantum mechanics books available, but none have the emphasis on nanotechnology and quantum information science that this book has

Book Radical Abundance

Download or read book Radical Abundance written by K. Eric Drexler and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: K. Eric Drexler is the founding father of nanotechnology -- the science of engineering on a molecular level. In Radical Abundance, he shows how rapid scientific progress is about to change our world. Thanks to atomically precise manufacturing, we will soon have the power to produce radically more of what people want, and at a lower cost. The result will shake the very foundations of our economy and environment. Already, scientists have constructed prototypes for circuit boards built of millions of precisely arranged atoms. The advent of this kind of atomic precision promises to change the way we make things -- cleanly, inexpensively, and on a global scale. It allows us to imagine a world where solar arrays cost no more than cardboard and aluminum foil, and laptops cost about the same. A provocative tour of cutting edge science and its implications by the field's founder and master, Radical Abundance offers a mind-expanding vision of a world hurtling toward an unexpected future.
