Download or read book Armed Citizens written by Noah Shusterman and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although much has changed in the United States since the eighteenth century, our framework for gun laws still largely relies on the Second Amendment and the patterns that emerged in the colonial era. America has long been a heavily armed, and racially divided, society, yet few citizens understand either why militias appealed to the founding fathers or the role that militias played in North American rebellions, in which they often functioned as repressive—and racist—domestic forces. In Armed Citizens, Noah Shusterman explains for a general reader what eighteenth-century militias were and why the authors of the Constitution believed them to be necessary to the security of a free state. Suggesting that the question was never whether there was a right to bear arms, but rather, who had the right to bear arms, Shusterman begins with the lessons that the founding generation took from the history of Ancient Rome and Machiavelli’s reinterpretation of those myths during the Renaissance. He then turns to the rise of France’s professional army during seventeenth-century Europe and the fear that it inspired in England. Shusterman shows how this fear led British writers to begin praising citizens’ militias, at the same time that colonial America had come to rely on those militias as a means of defense and as a system to police enslaved peoples. Thus the start of the Revolution allowed Americans to portray their struggle as a war of citizens against professional soldiers, leading the authors of the Constitution to place their trust in citizen soldiers and a "well-regulated militia," an idea that persists to this day.

Set in an imaginary country in Africa, the book explores important issues such as the challenges of creating a true nation state and providing visionary leadership, lacking in many countries on the continent. About the Author Noah Kaindama lives in the U.K. with his family. He was born in Zambia and has worked in education for many years. He recalls that he first won a writing competition prize in 1979 at college but never took up writing seriously until now. This book was released on with total page 1591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fullness of time the Christian religion sprang out of Judaism; as a fact, indeed, of divine revelation, but also inseparably joined by innumerable threads with the previous thousand years of Israel’s history. No incident in the gospel story, no word in the preaching of Jesus Christ, is intelligible apart from its setting in Jewish history, and without a clear understanding of that world of thought-distinction of the Jewish people. Download or read book Tib t M rqe written by Abraham Tal and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tibåt Mårqe is a collection of midrashic compositions, which, in the main, rewrites the Pentateuch, expanding its sometimes laconic presentation of events and precepts. Most of it aims at providing the reader with theological, didactic and philosophical teachings, artistically associated with the passages of the Torah. Here and there poetic pieces are embedded into its otherwise prosaic text. Tibåt Mårqe is attributed to the 4th century scholar, philosopher and poet, Mårqe. This publication of Tibåt Mårqe follows the monumental Hebrew edition of Ze’ev Ben-Hayyim, Tibåt Mårqe, a Collection of Samaritan Midrashim (Jerusalem 1988), based on a 16th century manuscript. Though he recognized the precedence of an earlier manuscript, dated to the 14th century, Ben-Hayyim was compelled to prefer the former, given the fragmentary state of the latter. He printed its fragments in parallel with the younger one, to which his annotations and discussions chiefly pertain. With the recent discovery of a great portion of the missing parts of the 14th century manuscript, this edition endeavors to present the older form of the composition. The present book may be relevant to people interested in literature, language, religion, and Samaritan studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 5th edition of Commonwealth Caribbean Property Law sets out clearly and concisely the central principles of the law of real property in the region, guiding students through this core but often complex subject area. Fully revised and updated to include important new case law from the various Caribbean jurisdictions, the book provides comprehensive coverage of the key topics studied by undergraduates, including co-ownership, leaseholds, condominium, restrictive covenants, easements, mortgages and adverse possession. Emphasis is on those areas that are most commonly litigated in the region, and the book contains discussion of, or reference to, many unreported cases. This new edition features expanded coverage of freehold estates, a glossary of key terms, and a new question and answer section at the end of the book. Commonwealth Caribbean Property Law is essential reading for LLB students in Caribbean universities and students on CAPE Law courses and, with its analysis of the substantive laws across several jurisdictions, it will continue to be an invaluable reference tool for legal practitioners in the region.
