Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of Small Great Things and A Spark of Light comes a “powerful” (The Washington Post) novel about the choices that alter the course of our lives. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY MARIE CLAIRE Everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She’s on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: Prepare for a crash landing. She braces herself as thoughts flash through her mind. The shocking thing is, the thoughts are not of her husband but of a man she last saw fifteen years ago: Wyatt Armstrong. Dawn, miraculously, survives the crash, but so do all the doubts that have suddenly been raised. She has led a good life. Back in Boston, there is her husband, Brian, their beloved daughter, and her work as a death doula, in which she helps ease the transition between life and death for her clients. But somewhere in Egypt is Wyatt Armstrong, who works as an archaeologist unearthing ancient burial sites, a career Dawn once studied for but was forced to abandon when life suddenly intervened. And now, when it seems that fate is offering her second chances, she is not as sure of the choice she once made. After the crash landing, the airline ensures that the survivors are seen by a doctor, then offers transportation to wherever they want to go. The obvious destination is to fly home, but she could take another path: return to the archaeological site she left years before, reconnect with Wyatt and their unresolved history, and maybe even complete her research on The Book of Two Ways—the first known map of the afterlife. As the story unfolds, Dawn’s two possible futures unspool side by side, as do the secrets and doubts long buried with them. Dawn must confront the questions she’s never truly asked: What does a life well lived look like? When we leave this earth, what do we leave behind? Do we make choices . . . or do our choices make us? And who would you be if you hadn’t turned out to be the person you are right now?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two Ways to Lose Your Faith is a book that reevaluates traditional Christian theology as well as the discipline known as philosophy of religionwhich deals with the big questions. This book is not a warning of how one can lose their faith or a book that will make you lose your faith. Rather, it is a book that stresses the importance of reevaluating your faith. If we still live believing what we believed in Sunday school, it shows that we have not grown in our understanding of what we believe. St. Paul once wrote, When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man I put away childish things, and I would add childish beliefs. In this book, the author will walk you through the process of reevaluating your faith so that you can grow up into what your faith can be now.

Book Sopolyrimu Volume 1

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marcus M. Cornelius
  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 2009-02
  • ISBN : 1440122792
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Sopolyrimu Volume 1 written by Marcus M. Cornelius and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sopolyrimu (songs, poems and lyrics for music) are inspired by the fragility of the human predicament, the struggle to maintain a meaningful integrity and lightness of spirit, the exquisite fineness of being alive, and the visions of the world (inner and outer) one is obliged to look at or be affected by. Equally, the sopolyrimu arise from the search for love, the experience of love and the loss of love. They are written to celebrate the joys and ugliness of the never ending stream of life in which we move, sometimes at a total loss, sometimes close to bliss, but always feeling something, if we allow ourselves to feel and ask questions of our feelings, and feel grateful. In this sense they are all love's songs, to love with love from love. One of the sopolyrimu in this Volume is called Begun is done. Given the pattern of life, repetition is inevitable. There's always another chance, until all the cards have been played. Each time, the intention, the content of the intention builds or diminishes momentum, and content accumulates through repetition, for better and worse, adding a dash or a dose of sugar or salt, acid or salve. It all adds up. Begun is done. Consciousness is everything, in the end, at the start. One says, "I did not realise." One does not want to say, "I did not realise my self." In that spirit, begun is done. May you be blessed by the self you realise. The most frequent comment about these sopolyrimu is that they are curiously healing, powerful, potent and pertinent, and demand and reward full attention.

Book excerpt: "In this study, Aaron Milavec comprehensively examines how the first-century pastoral manual known as the Didache enumerated the step-by-step training of converts for the full, active participation in the earliest Jewish-Christian communities. Milavec shows how the Didache can, in turn, illuminate our understanding of how these first Christian men and women organized their community life socially, religiously, and politically in order to safeguard its members from the challenges of the surrounding Roman, pagan society of the first-century Mediterranean basin. He argues not only that the Didache's textual and contextual clues demonstrate the document's organic unity from beginning to end, but also that it dates from a period before the gospels were written and had gained acceptance."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Theories of Action and Morality

Download or read book Theories of Action and Morality written by Mark Alznauer and published by Georg Olms Verlag. This book was released on 2016-02-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The essays in this volume address the question of whether we can understand human action without reference to moral norms or values. Although the authors approach this question in different and sometimes even incompatible ways, they are united in thinking that it is undesirable or even incoherent to treat human agency as if it were conceptually independent of value questions. The editors have attempted to invite contributions that would be interesting to both philosophers and social theorists. The conjunction of philosophic and sociological perspectives might help to overcome some of the mutual misunderstandings that have been fostered by a lack of dialogue between the philosophic and sociological action theory. The volume includes essays by Terry Pinkard, Sebastian Rödl, Dieter Schönecker, Ana Marta González, John Levi Martin, Alejandro N. García Martínez, Sophie Djigo, Teresa Enríquez, and Evgenia Mylonaki.

Book Personality Type Scripture Mark

Download or read book Personality Type Scripture Mark written by Leslie J. Francis and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do people disagree about scripture? Why, when two people are asked what they find of importance in a bible passage, are they likely to come up with different answer?Using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator to analyse possible responses to St Mark's Gospel, Leslie Francis shows how, in finding our own preferred pattern of spirituality, not only how to broaden and deepen our understanding of the gospels, but also increase our sensitivity to others. Offering insights into the responses of different personality types, this disciplined approach is an invaluable contribution to the methodologies both of bible study and of preaching.
